Well, the only one I can think of is S.O.S. Titanic which has a plot line for 2nd class with Lawrence Beesley, played by David Warner, and his fictional love interest, played by Susan Saint James. I've seen it (a long long time ago), but can't remember if it depicted the 2nd class to any great detail.

I feel like 2nd class passengers got the lesser end of the ship between all three classes. They basically have one Lounge for men and women, the smoke room for men and then the dining saloon for meals. Everything seems very tight and compact .. the promenade looks less than 100ft long! At least the third class passengers could literally walk the length of the ship through Scotland Road, etc. Noticing a door from the Parisienne Cafe to the second class promenade; you'd HOPE that at times they were allowed to use the cafe. (Im sure that was eventually the case with the Olympic but, surely not Titanic.)

The padded cell on the ship was also a quaint accommodation to relax or tend to things if you didn't wish to be cooped up in your cabin for the whole voyage. The stark white walls provide excellent illumination for mad scribblings or eating the pages of your favorite contemporary novel.

If the part of the Titanic where the Second Class stairwell was located is still intact, as it was stated at around 22:00, do we know whether there is anything left from the Second Class staircase itself? Because that could tell us more about the fate of First Class staircase. As far as I know, there have been two theories: 1) Ballard presumes that all wooden parts have been eaten by ligniperdous marine fauna 2) Cameron presumes that the buoyancy of such a huge amount of wood caused the whole structure to be ripped away from the hull. So if there is nothing left of the Second Class staircase, then the marine fauna theory would be correct but if something is still left of the Second Class staircase then there must be a different explanation for the disappearance of the First Class staircase.

Hello my friend Mike Brady, that was a very relaxing way to spend a couple of hours, well done to everyone involved in bringing it to us as a live stream. Mike, with the developers eye for detail you might want to pass on a patch for the final release. On the world map at 1:56:30 there are two New Zealands and when you zoom in you can see Lyttleton and Dunedin listed on the wrong side of the South Island. Both are on the East coast.

This is very true. For the most part the ships H&W built were cookie cutter ships. The Olympic class for the most part were not unique. Romanticism and armchair history has made them out to be more unique than they really were.

So the 'Weatherspoon's' analogy is kinda spot on, but not as 'mean' as you'd think - Weatherspoon's are famous for refurbishing derelict public buildings that have quite ornate features into pubs, old cinemas, train stations, theatres, chapels, bingo halls, Banks, Post Offices. If you go to their website they have a 'pub histories' page which highlights some of the most interesting buildings. The one in Bristol's docks used to be a transit shed, the now since closed one in Southampton is next door to the Canute Chambers, which was where White Star Line's officers were housed. Being old public buildings they tend to be big open spaces, not like the traditional idea of a British pub with nooks and cranies, so they tend to have a distinctive look. It tends to be the clientele that let the places down!

Its incredible to have so many smoking rooms on a ship which is extensive wood panelling. Even the electric wires could potentially short circuit and spark a fire. I wonder if Thomas Andrews had made contingency plans for fire fighting on the Titanic.

I think another reason 2nd Class gets overlooked so much (besides the social politics) is for aesthetic reasons. To a modern audience, 2nd Class simply looks as fancy as 1st Class in many areas. Visually, let’s imagine if 2nd Class were in Cameron’s movie, it would be confusing to a viewer who doesn’t know the ship well. We know that many areas of 2nd Class could be used for extra 1st Class or extra 3rd Class space. We know that 2nd Class was allowed to tour 1st Class while at port. As beautiful as 2nd Class is, the entire space is cinematically vague (except for their dinning room). “A Night To Remember” did a rare representation of 2nd Class with the story of the newlywed couple. Young Ruth Becker and teacher Lawrence Beesley are two famous 2nd Class survivors with documented testimonies of their experiences, for anyone interested.

1 in 100 top tip for best quality streaming. - lock fps max to 60 and turn on vsync (set monitor hz to 60 if necessary) - set Titanic game motion blur to 15-25% locking the fps /hz locally will sync video to youtube 60fps and eliminate out-of-sync tearing while reserving as much PC performance capacity as possible for motion blur, which is why movies at 30fps look smooth as glass

The most famous people from the night of the sinking who stayed at Titanic's Second Class were the eight musicians, all of whom perished in the tragedy. The musicians, like the Marconi operators, were neither crew, nor passenger. Like the Marconi operators, they were hired by an agency. Though they were hailed for their heroism and stoicism the musicians were not insured by neither the hiring agency nor by White Star Line, each passing the insurance claims on the other. This was perhaps the most tragic story of the musicians, whose family members were not compensated by their employees who abrogated all responsibility.

I’m thinking with the elevator vents they had two for redundancy so if one failed they could continue to use the elevator why’ll they fixed the other. Maybe they thought 2nd class would use the elevator more and being a single lift they wanted to make sure it stayed operating where in 1st class they had three elevators so if one elevator vent broke down they still have two elevators to use.

..It should be hollowed...Even if it had no major role except mounting the mast light or flying the WSL flag [ can't remember the original term for it right now ]. . nevertheless, it surely had reduced some weight on the ship...So, I think it was too a hollowed one like foremast. .but with no lookout platform but maybe a long ladder to fix the light or the flag when needed...These are just my pure guess...It seems, I have to look it up more about it...Good Q btw 👍🏼
