I wish there was a coupon for the mig170. They have the mig140 discounted but never see the 170. Guess I’ll just wait. Thanks for the video! This is definitely the best setup.

@@TheGuyThatWondersWhy thank you for checking out the channel I appreciate the support! Yes I have been extremely happy with this machine! I have built a lot with it! I did a whole steel deck trailer conversion as well as a whole bunch of other projects if you wanna check them out but personally I would get the 170 over the 140! 🤟🤟🤟👍👍👍👍

Possibly adjust post gas flow for a few seconds so when the aluminum cools it is still shielded. This may help prevent cracking.
@AXNJXN1 Жыл бұрын
I don't believe this MIG170 has ANY pre or post flow adjustments built on it. WYSIWYG.

Thank you glad you liked it! Yeah it is a fantastic little machine, especially for the price! I am extremely impressed with it!! I completely rebuild a wood deck car trailer with it turned it into a full steel deck with a big wind/ rock shield to help protect the cars! And it did fantastic that project is on the channel as well! It seems to really like Hobart wire! The spool gun is a great add on too! Takes a little fine tuning but can do a great job! I will also be doing a review on the primeweld 225 ac/dc tig welder here very soon! I have been running it through its paces the last couple weeks! Thanks for the support! 🤟🤟🤟

Exactly what I was looking for. I want to set up a cheaper smaller machine just for aluminum welding and wanted to know what I could do. I have the titanium 200 and love it, but want a separate machine already set up just for aluminum

Nice yeah should work good! I use my prime weld ac/dc tig for my the aluminum that I do like the intercooler piping video I did was all with the prime weld but I use this machine a lot for mild steel and it’s a great little machine the spool gun seems to work pretty well too!

I do a mobile tire shop and right now I can stretch and paint wheels. Can this welder can weld hairline cracks in aluminum wheels with the spool gun? Provided I heat the rim first and run it on 240.

What were the settings you ended up on for the the aluminum?
@bought2build2 жыл бұрын
That will highly depend on what thickness of the material you are welding if you you are on 120v or 220v and a few other factors like the wire you are using etc. i started with the recommended settings on the little door of the welder and and played around with them until i got it where I liked it for my particular machine I found myself a little higher than their recommended settings.

Would you recommend this spool gun to weld inter cooler pipe on a turbo set up
@bought2build2 жыл бұрын
I can not say that I have tried welding something that thin with the spool gun. In my personal opinion I would say that the spool gun does great in thicker aluminum. I was able to get some pretty good looking welds out of it pretty fast as you can see in the video, but if you want to weld something like charge piping which is usually .065-.085 on a regular basis and have it look nice I would recommend the primeweld tig 225X. I just got the primeweld machine and have been absolutely loving it for the price! I will be doing a review on it once I have a little more time with it!!! I am not saying that it can not be done with the spool gun. I just think you would have better results with a AC/DC tig machine similar to the primeweld. Thanks for watching! Hope this helps! 🤟🤟🤟
@drewchambers9132 Жыл бұрын
So for the spool gun you have to use argon? I guess I assumed you just had to have the spool gun for the titanium 170
@bought2build Жыл бұрын
correct for welding aluminum I use 100% argon different metals will require different gas when welding mild steel I use a 75%/25% mix 👍
@tomswope3039 Жыл бұрын
How do you think this welder would have done welding aluminum with 110v?
@bought2build Жыл бұрын
I think it would still do good the 110 will limit the thickness that you can weld tho

Does the Vulcan 160 amp spool gun also work for the mig 170? Has anyone try this? It's also from Harbor freight

@@bought2build actual settings?
@bought2build Жыл бұрын
@@ParadiseRanchLV it’s 90% technique you can make a wide range of settings work the type of aluminum you are welding will change this dramatically use the settings on the door add 10 wire speed and .2 volts and that’s what i usually weld at but my settings may blow through your material that’s why I always tell people you gotta try it and figure out what works for you 👍🤟

My 170 manual says “no extension cords”. Obviously you’re using one on your trailer. What length and gauge extension are you using? I’m sure the Titanium guys are afraid some dolt will use an interior lamp extension cord. ;-)
@bought2build Жыл бұрын
It very well may say no extension cords tbh I didn’t look like you said they probably mean small 115v extension cords idk I’m using 220/240v power and I use the extension cord all the time for my mig and tig because my welding area is on the other side of the garage. I am not sure what gauge it is it is a 220/240v extension for powering an old RV camper I had

@bought2build Жыл бұрын
I have mentioned them before but a lot of times I won’t because it highly depends on wire size and 120 or 240v and your individual machine! I will tell you my honest recommendation I start at the settings they are on the door of the machine and I will adjust up or down based on how the machine is welding! You can get a beautiful weld with the settings posted on the door of the machine fine tuning them beyond that takes a little knowledge and just practice of being able to look at the weld and know what way you need to go sorry I can’t give you an exact number
