#askmark From what I've seen, people in colder waters (Europe) tend to go towards a twin setup while in warmer waters (SEA, Mexico etc.) sidemount is a much more common setup. Is there a logical reason for this related to climate?

Hi, thanks so much for taking the time every week to answer these tons of questions!
I’m currently in the market for new exposure protection (My old 7 mm seems to have reduced in size; must have been made out of this infamous shrinking neoprene), but I wonder whether it’s smart to go for 7 mm again. I think buying a 5 mm + an additional drysuit might be a more versatile set, right? The lakes and seasides around here in Germany are not known to be the warmest and coziest, but the 5 mm would be better for travelling and in summer. And I take it layering up is still an option.
Secondly, since Drysuits cost are not exactly low, any recommendations when looking/buying for a 2nd hand / used drysuit as an entry into drysuits?

Hey Mark!
My dive shop told me I can’t use nitrox with an atomic T3 regulator. I know they make their own nitrox and not a premixed blend. I know titanium can react with O2. Does this also apply to titanium in my SSI titanium inflator for my BC2.
Thanks

#askmark For the hydra drysuit bag, I’m looking at purchasing this to store/carry my drysuit. Is the zip on the bag waterproof so it won’t leak? Also, do you think this would fit an Apeks KVR drysuit? Thanks!

I have been diving about 2 years now. My starter fins are buoyant to the point of if I am stagnant I invert. I have a strong kick, would like be able to observe the environment in a horizontal position. What fins would you recommend?

As a side note from someone handling chemicals regularly: I'd strongly advise against bringing shampoo or any other kind of soap into waterways which you'd like to dive in frequently. A quick glance at J&J ingredient list shows the following: -name (acute toxicity) [toxicity for (water-) environment]; more stars means worse, max three stars -Water (0) [0] -Citric Acid (0) [0] -Cocamidopropyl Betaine (*) [***] -Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate (0) [**] -Glycerin (0) [0] -Lauryl Glucoside (0) [**] -PEG-80 Sorbitan Laurate (0) [0] -Sodium Benzoate (*) [*] -PEG-150 Distearate (0) [0] -Polyquaternium-10 (0) [*] -Disodium EDTA (0) [*] -Sodium Methyl CocoylTaurate (0) [*] Many of the ingredients really should not get into the water (the irony to use them in a shampoo is kinda apparent). Most substances are claimed to be either biodegradable, not bio accumulative or both. PEG (even the short ones like used by J&J here) and other substances though can readily be found in fresh water even after all the waste water treatment. I would not take a label claiming biodegradability at face value. PEG itself might not hurt too bad, but it still is plastic. It seems kind of strange to me if we strife to remove plastic from the water, but carry other plastic into it. Only one is solid and one liquid... not that much better in my books. And in yours? Edit: the above listed information are taken from the individual safety data sheets of the pure substances. Toxicity data are usually given in mg of substance per kg of body weight and always with a method of exposure. Let's take something stated as 5000 mg/kg, that'd mean an average 75 kg person would need to be exposed to 375 g of substance at once, and then it'd finish of half of the test group (LD50 = lethal dose for 50% of the test group). In aquatic environment LC50 is kind of the same, factoring in the concentration in the liquid.

#AskMark broke my femur badly - a rod and screws through the bone now - months of excruciating physiotherapy - given the green light to resume (with care) diving - have about 600 dives - 200 in the last two years - 100 of them solo - other than not diving solo for a while - not sure how what I should be considering or keeping in mind - obviously excited - obviously aware of limitations (fighting a current) - not looking for any particular advice - just your own personal thoughts. Thanks, Mark.

When in cold water with sidemount xdeep bolt snaps are a must. They are a total game changer. Till you actually use them you won't understand just how much of a difference thay make.

#AskMark Do you have any recommendations for dry suit manufacturers for larger people? I'm a 44ish inch waist and have struggled so far. The suit that I use (club loan) is an XL Ri2-100 O'Three which would be fine but as with most suits I've looked at they are either too long in the arms/legs/body/all or the manufacturers find it odd that I fit an XL with plenty of room for undersuit layers. I would like to go M2M but it's quite a long wait (worthwhile, I'm sure!) and a bit pricier.

im quite new about the nitrox subject... So people who uses nitrox (not me) have a first stage nitrox and a normal first stage for just oxygen dives?

#askmark Hi Mark, could you pls give advice on dive lights (for example min. lumen, spot vs wide, or go with zoom, burn time etc))? I am looking to buy my first torch for recreational diving (mostly for night dives, otherwise in the pocket for safety). Would be a mares eos 10 lrz, or 20 lrz, or aSeac 40R an overkill? Lastly, what do you think about the soft goodman handles? Thanks in advance✌️

#askMark Hi Mark. I am enjoying your KZbin channel. Thank for all the useful tips and advises . My question is: Do you bother to fill the BCD in freshwater after every dive ? If so - What is the best method to do it ? Thanks - Ido

Titanium regs are usually certified to 40% O2, but I personally see no advantage in them in the first place. How much weight can it save? Clearly if you are a tech or CCR diver using 100% O2 you won't be going anywhere near them.

#askmark I'm looking into options for masks to not fog, normally it's not a problem but when I forget to shave I get fogging problems from clearing too much. Cressi A1 seems great, but I assume the anti-fog coating wears off after time (especially if it gets scratched). So maybe the Cressi Quantum is a better long term option, just concerned all of the extra seals/membranes will make clearing difficult. Thanks and keep up the good work!

Hi, Thanks for all the videos. Do you know if anyone makes, or has ever made, regulators out of Aluminum? It's light weight, corrosion resistant, and a good thermal conductor. I thought someone would have tried it at some point but i can't seem to find any. I'm wondering if something about the material makes it a bad choice. Thanks #askmark

#AskMark Hi Mark. I am enjoying your channel a lot. Learned so much. Thanks a million! Q: I am looking to buy a nice dive computer/watch for my wife - both recreational divers. I have a Shearwater Teric w Transmitter. Love it. She could really use something simple to use, bright and easy to read. Preferably with AI. Any suggestions? Does it matter if we dive together and use different dive computers / different algorithms.
