How to install a water pump seal on a Polaris 700 sportsman ( The correct way! )

I pressed it in with a socket as well and it leaked still apparently there’s a special tool for pressing it in. I guess the mechanical seal has like 5 thou worth of play before you screw the seal (found that out the hard way) so I’m gonna get the water pump kit with the installation and a aluminum impeller too to be on the safe side. Good video definitely helped with the next steps I need to take!

My plastic impeller broke off the shaft. Going to replace the seals while I have it apart. Is it possible to replace the seals the way you showed while the motor is still on the machine?

If I need to split the casing to change the gasket between the casing and the engine due to a small leak on the bottom by the universal joint, do I need to change the seals or will they be alright? I do not see any oil in the coolant or water in the oil

Thanks for the video, I bought my seal from the dealer and it came with this plastic housing on it, do I need to remove it? Doesn't seem to.pull off that easily

Yes, remove the plastic shipping container. You might need to clip the end to get it off.

Idk what it looks like but is that possibly a little "temporary bushing so the spring doesn't pop off the seal installing it or the seal itself damaged from being slid on the opposite way So u don't have to pull it all the way apart? Just curious.

Big question do I put the Gasket on Dry. or With gasket sealer?

The metal outer seal you are supposed to put on dry. There is blue sealer tape on it. The rubber inner I put a little oil on so it slides in

question for ya, where does the bearing go? been searching all over. The kit came with one, but i didnt see one when i got to this point.

The bearing is behind the sprocket or gear on water pump.

Spring towards the pump. The flat side should be towards the mechanical seal.

Where would the impeller be located? I havent taken everything apart yet

On the right side of the motor. follow your coolant lines down to the engine. there is a black cover shaped like a number 6.

hi im trying to do this on my 03 sportsman 700 twin. cant seem to find that kit on ebay. any chance you have a link to the one you got? and if you would recommend that kit or wish you got a different one? ps. i did find a kit that says it will work and looks similar to the ones that came out, but the back seal (not mechanical one) does't quite look the same. any info would be great! thank you. also don't know what year yours is and if they are a little different or not.

Might be a good idea to replace them. I've gotten away with not having to do that. But they are cheap..so why not?
