There are 2 qualities setting (no pun intended) him apart: his ability to observe and predict the opponent team, thereby always knowing the weak part of the block/defense and setting his attackers accordingly. That is why we see so ridiculously many 1-on-1 situations or straightup no blockers at all, when his team attacks. The quota overall is just stupid. And secondly, many setters are good at "rescuing" tight passes. But Marouf's diversity in those tight pass/overpass situations is absurd. He can set anyone from the edge of the net, let it drop when he reads that the oponent is sleeping and do it from multiple body orientations as well, making his tight-net-setting even harder to predict. Those two qualities must make it an absolut pain in the ass to predict this guys moves. It is really the hitters being the weakness, if anything.

For a setter he moves a lot. He doesn't wait for the ball to come to him that one inch closer, he speeds things up by coming to the ball first and playing it the way he wants.

This is easily the most amazing highlight video I've seen. Dude is inhuman. They are in system when he is setting from zone 5? You have got to be kidding me! So many of the clips had me shaking my head in disbelief and amazement. The one when he takes his eyes off the pass to see his hitters had me backing up the video. I usually tell the setters I coach to watch his highlight videos. This is the one I'm going to point them to from now on.

Clay Hales Yes! Watching him is just attending a professional setting course. His far back dumps in zones 1 and 5 are very difficult to teach anybody. There was just one in this video but he does it routinely! Iran attackers are no superstars but this man makes them succeed with 70% effort of other elite players.

@@HosseinMadanee This is not just an opinion. It's statistics. I am closely following Iranians technical data and their strikers' point ratio statistics in offense is not good. (I assume you know the difference between ratio and rate) I agree that Seyed has almost the highest success among Iranians though, his most strength has always been blocks, and his offense is just like other top players in the world. There is one player called Ghaemi which I don't even know why Iran keeps him in the squad, his point ratio statistics is always poor (He has good reception though). Still Iran has always been strong in reception, setting, digs, and sometimes blocks and serves, statistically of course.

His setter dumps are so lethal because his style of setting shows that he’ll set the ball even if its on the net or an overpass. Therefor, when that one hand goes up the opposing team is expecting a set. You cover his setter dumps, you lose to him setting a hitter. You cover the hitters, he’ll drop it right in front of you.

Bronco his. Absolutely absurd. He is using the fact that the opponent blockers know this guy is so good that he can set even the balls closest to the net, against them by not setting them and letting them fall. I am a volleyball noob, havent played high level volleyball since I only got into playing after watching Haikyuu, but even I can tell his awareness and intuition for how the blockers are going to move to mis-recieves and using it as an advantage to set the best balls to the spikers is insane. It really reminds me of Kageyama explaining to Hinata how a setter tears down the blockers in episode 2 and this is the first time I am seeing tearing down blockers in such clear manner. Thanks for the video, I am going to be checking him out a lot more
