Titian was the greatest painter of 16th-century Venice, and the first painter to have a mainly international clientele. During his long career, he experimented with many different styles of painting that embody the development of art during his epoch.
Titian was born in Pieve di Cadore, a small town at the foot of the Dolomites on the Venetian side of the Alps. When he was about ten years old, Titian arrived in Venice, then one of the wealthiest and most cosmopolitan cities in the world. He started his artistic training in the workshop of the mosaicist Sebastiano Zuccato. He later briefly joined Gentile Bellini's workshop. After Gentile died in 1507, Titian joined the workshop of Gentile's brother, Giovanni Bellini, which at that time was the most important in Venice.

I seem to take the symbolism in the narration with a grain of salt. In my Western Civilizations class if classical art, my professor would recite the symbolism, and the grading on the exams would depend upon regurgitating her recited narration. As I matured, I've met many artists. The successful ones were the ones who developed the best backstory of the piece. Every brush stroke had its own backstory full of symbolism , with a liberal use of adjectives and adverbs. In one of the paintings in this video, there were two fully clothed me with two naked women. The symbolism in the narration was of the four elements of nature; wind, water, earth, and fire. An alternative narration may be two creeps gawking at two naked women. In three hundred years, the artistic master piece of the 20th century might be the Playboy centerfold of Bettie Page posed with a subtle smile in front of the Christmas tree. Perhaps Titian described his painting in flowery symbolic narration so he wouldn't be burned at the stake as a pornographer. Should art narration be described as in the eye of the beholder, the eye of the artist, or the eye of the art critic?
