I think quitting in the middle of a tournament--unless you have a serious off-tournament reason, like illness or a family emergency--should be heavily punished. You should be assigned a next opponent, given a loss, assigned a next opponent, given another loss, etc., until you've "played" all your games and taken all your rating point losses.
