I watch the videos cause you’re in the Netherlands and I imagine how Rembrandt must have thought and felt. Different times, different man. But I’m not a time traveler, This is as close as I can get to Remmy. I’m an artist, so I know how you think.. I watch for fun. I have not been commercially successful and I’m almost eighty years old. I don’t need to make money. I’m on an imaginary boat enjoying the ride. Titus is cuter than Remmy, so lol it’s better than watching a movie of some guy playing Rembrandt. I respect your work. Good job on that self-portrait. I enjoy watching a skilled worker. Thanks

Hah, these fanfare scenes remind me of when I've been a bagpiper in a pipe band, especially as we wear a feather in our glengarry headgear. Also... I find being an artist can be a lonely business. I like to be left in peace while I'm actually drawing and painting, but I like at least one other person there or thereabouts, especially when I'm finished. Before smartphones, Internet, videos etc, I used to imagine I was being filmed and people were watching me at certain times, just for fun. I quite enjoyed it as an exercise in conducting myself well, and appreciating how my everyday doings could be interesting. Now of course, people actually do it... but I don't think I have the technological capabilities to do it for real 😃

We retired to a small college town in West Virginia. At the holiday season there was a special outdoor concert called A Tuba Christmas. Tuba players from far and near gathered to present the best welcome to the Yule. Anyone of any tuba ability was welcome to join in. We all sang lustily.

Looking forward to your next video about Rick Rubin's book. It's been a game changer for me in many ways. And, I Love the "quack" ringtone! Had to change mine so I can have the duck tell me when to answer my phone.

Multiples at the ready……..good idea. It seems that the light in these fanfare pictures is really difficult to capture; just like “they” tell you to take a picture with the sun behind you. This light perspective is very challenging. However, now that I think about it, even your street scenes are facing “the light”…….interesting.

When doing paintings that are quite detailed it is very liberating and fun to paint something different and feels like a break. The green and added details softened up the painting of the first house nicely by the way. I don’t know if I could do what you do as far as being so public while working. I find it good to paint with others or be with others while painting, that for myself isn’t an issue. Maybe I am a bit more private. Doing tutorials would not have any appeal to do for myself. There was a good niche here in inviting others to see what you do. Certainly it is a business opportunity but it also makes for an interesting study. You do not promote certain products over others but you might show what you use basically. By the way that is in my opinion better because artistic influencers can affect commercialism and increase the price of certain brands. That’s sad really because so many people in other countries desire to use a brand but they are not able to afford it. I have seen how certain ones have caused products to disappear then they raise the prices. There was a $5 or $6 price hike on a particular brand of wc in the last week and a half for no real reason. Everyone has particular brushes and brands that are used over the years and but any good quality paper and paint can work and it is the brush mileage and practice that count. There is much joy in painting what we love. You have some interesting ideas or your friend does about a book. That is something that I used to know more about but I resorted to just keeping my life more simplified. The more involved in things one can or could do perhaps the more our families are away from us. I don’t have any Friday jokes but hope that you and all have a peaceful weekend.😊

Thank you for your video, it is so peaceful, that's exactly what I need to feel better. I couldn't pick up a brush in the last couple of days, because I am so distracted by what's happening in the world. I try to learn it from you to block it out of my mind because the artist's job is to concentrate still on the beauty in the world and to keep the spirit in the people...❤

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Titus! I was interested in how you might respond to the question, and I’m glad to hear how you have to sit and think about it. I think the most interesting thing about this channel and the content you put out is how much it feels like a genuine dialogue between you and us (the viewers). And it’s refreshing to see how you are being challenged in your thinking in as many ways as you are challenging us. What I think is so unique about the creative process is how much it lends itself to the idea of destruction and rebirth - an old buddhist philosophy. The idea that each night we can tear ourselves down to rebuild ourselves in the morning. And I guess that takes a fair amount of humility and awareness and insight into our own creative wellspring. But just as important is the feedback we need from others - not necessarily to tell us what we should be doing, but to inform us of what it is we are *actually* doing. To give us insight, absent of our own self-limiting vision. I look forward to next week!

Regarding the street scene, anticipating St. Nicolas: Clarification: Did you say you felt free to mess it up because you had plenty of work for shows. And that would make it easier to throw it away, let it go.( Maybe I should watch to the end before I comment. But then I might for get what I wanted to say.) Don't ever throw your work away, no matter how much you distain it. Because it hold a lesson for you. You may not see it right away, but when you look at it again you will see it.

Hi Esther, yes I considered that. But I hadn't taken any pictures of St Nicholas and it would have become too illustrative when I had drawn it out of my head.

You spoke of "messing up this painting on purpose", but when I first saw it, it seemed like an exaggeration of light and shadow with the bold dark lines. An abstraction of light. I'm not sure that it is as messed up as you imply. Or maybe it's just late and my eyes are tired.
