Please hold your photographic device in the "wide angle" position when making photographs or videos of this design, the world THANKS YOU! Also, do much like the boat. Well done. If you plan on fiberglassing the outside and the inside do you need to use marine grade plywood? seems like the epoxy and fiberglass would seal it
@johngoodell27755 жыл бұрын
yes all builders recommend using at least marine grade fir ply or a more expensive options. Vapor can make it through epoxy/glass and because epoxy is not very viscous, it does not penetrate wood well....thus any ding or poke will result in water wicking into the ply. Its almost unavoidable for a boat that it used for work or a lot of fishing etc.
@reallyhappenings55973 жыл бұрын
Good glassing technique involves a first base/unmodified epoxy coat to saturate the wood BEFORE fabric is laid, best practice regardless of ply used.

It depends on the state, but many states require you to keep receipts for your materials, like Louisiana, since people used find abandoned boats and re-register them as homebuilts. Most states are pretty easy though.

looks like this is a super heavy boat for it's size. A foam core with fiberglass skin / Composite design would cut at least 75% of the weight off this boat.
@tjkid075 жыл бұрын
No, not super heavy, in fact the opposite -quite light. A glass boat would add a lot of weight over this design.
@evopwrmods5 жыл бұрын
@@tjkid07 I have built several boats myself and there is no way those heavy lumber yard 2x4 would weigh less than say a Divinycell foam cored boat. I have experience with these ultra light weigh designs and they are much more expensive to build than standard lumber yard wooden framed boats. But in the end I will take lighter weigh and a stronger boat albiet a slightly higher cost ratio. Your designs are very functional for their intent I will give you that. but the weight of these heavily over framed designs is not my cup of tea. Good Luck to you.
@ronminervino67185 жыл бұрын
@@evopwrmods the boat weighs about 850 pounds
@johngoodell27755 жыл бұрын
@@evopwrmods blahahaha. it is common knowledge in the boat building biz that a wood ply on frame design as done here are lighter than the vast majority of modern glass/epoxy boats like a foam core. The framing adds insignificant weight even compared to stitch and glue alternatives. The reason is that to achieve the strength needed in pure epoxy/glass designs like foam core or even stitch and glue, you have to use a lot more glass and epoxy....a lot more. Tolmans are fairly light weight but you have to do about 500% more epoxy/glass work and about triple the time, so it comes down to what you would rather do....be a carpenter and make fast progress, or expose yourself to poisonous fumes for hundreds of hours.

I’ve seen them short out more than a fuse and if you temporarily pull the plug apart that doesn’t happen other wise Congratulations on the Completion and launching of Morning Glory she is a fine looking Vessel in and out of the water

@tjkid074 жыл бұрын
I have no idea of what it would cost you to build. If you download the plans, decide what materials you want to use, determine what they would cost in your area, you'll come up with some costs. Here's my attitude about costs: spirainternational.com/tipsandtricks/2013/130317_how_much_does_it_cost.html Now how much could you sell it for? That's a tough one.

Ok i live in nj as well and my big question is how do you register and get it all legal like. please let me know .
@tjkid077 жыл бұрын
It varies from state to state. Each state has its own rules. If you check with teh New Jersey Department of Motor Vehicles, you can download the forms for free. If you join my insider section (it's free) there is a report on how to register your boat. spirainternational.com/hp_fun2017.html
@wadepatton24337 жыл бұрын
In my state, you have to apply for a hull number. Once they state issues your hull number, you then have to register it with that hull number to get your ID numbers and tax sticker. NJ may be similar or may be even more complicated. Best of luck, this video proves it can be done!
@ronminervino67186 жыл бұрын
I built this boat and I will tell you what to do in NJ. After it is finished go to DMV with all the receipts from the build. You will also need a notarized statement outlining the build with construction details. There was a $60 fee. If it is over 12 feet you need to fill out another form that they give you OS/SS-27. After the DMV reviews your documents you will be instructed to bring the boat to The New Jersey State Police Marine Division. Upon completion of the inspection, return to DMV with the report from the State Police HIN Investigation Report form OS/SS-10A. They will issue you a Hull Identification Number that include stickers that are mounted on the Transom

@tjkid073 жыл бұрын
I take it you didn't download the 50 page assembly manual that comes with tha plans that tells you exactly why there are no angles used nor should there be. Over 2500 of them have been built, from ages from 8 to 85 years old and nearly everyone says that they're the easiest plans they've ever seen. So tell me are you complaining that there are no explanations for assembly when you didn't read the instructions? Or see any of the 200.videos that explain it? If you are not satisfied with the plans, I'll refund you for them so long as you dont build it, sell or give away the plans. Or does that not satisfy you either?
