I want to give a shout-out to Takara's version of Powerlink Optimus Prime from Transformers Armada. Who's ever idea it was to take Armada Optimus and repaint him into Optimus Primal's colours was a stroke of pure genius. Not only is it a cool nod to Garry Chalk (who voices both Armada Prime and BW Primal), but I personally prefer this deco for Armada Optimus over the classic Optimus Blue/Red as his base robot looks very gorilla-like and the colours just pop on him more. I also think the deco perfectly symbolizes Armada Optimus accepting his dark side for the love of battle (despite saying he wants peace), without it being too edgy or evil like Nemesis Prime.

Also i think Overlord was the intended mold. it's weird but sometimes hasbro does the remold or repaint before it does the main mold.

The lack of a Legacy Cryotek is actually criminal. It's one of the best Leader molds in years, it's a gorgeous colorscheme different enough to make it feel like a different toy and you could give him an ice breath blast effect to use as DLC for the Megatron, since he could also breath ice in the show.

Not to mention you could also technically do a Beast Machines repaint of the original Megatron too. He wouldn't be able to form the cloak from his wings but the patchwork of metal and organic all over his body was really notable whenever he was shown off in the show.

That Netflix Soundwave is exactly why i love the Legacy United Soundwave. Netflix Soundwave was so sought after and became so rare and expensive i thought I'd never have the chance to own it. Then Dramatic Capture Series repaints it in the Nemesis Bridge set but i already have Megatron and Shockwave so it's not worth it. Finally United Soundwave gets revealed and I'm not bothered by the price point. Finally a Soundwave that transfoms into a cassette player with multiple cassettes to use. I love the figure and it's one of my favorite Transformers i got this year.

Fracture is one so great I specifically kept it over the new Crasher from newer Mirages. Honestly the striking porportions with the big stompy looking feet for her quake power it was the perfect recolor.

Same. Also, the same thing goes for which ever Transformers generations toy line gives us the protectobots and defender, because I would really like a guard city. But, battle Gaia gets a slight edge.

For Cryotek.... I'm still waiting for the packrat, lazorbeak, and razorclaw repaints. I think they messed up and did two of basically the same rattrap releases and did two different terrorsaurs. and the second set of each didn't sell well. because it's the exact same character. and hasbro decided noone wanted those molds because corporations are dumb like that. Then the walmart beastwars exclusives didn't sell well. So i think hasbro got real cold feet. (and again we just got a "toy" deco of tarantulas instead of any OTHER character we are missing. I'm glad people who want it got it. but i just don't understand this path hasbro has taken).

I really wish we could get a Selects repaint of the Earthrise seeker mold as Action Master Thundercracker. And I’m really surprised we haven’t gotten Selects Cryotek too. No love for the 2014 Botcon Scorponok? That was one of my holy grails and is a thing of beauty.

Overlord may have not really had any establishment in the US, but I feel he definitely was popular enough to get a figure at that price point thanks to people who were able to get The Masterforce bootleg VHS/DVDs from Omni, as well as KZbin (that Japanese commercial for Overlord is epic and thanks to KZbin it's available), and of course his use in IDW definitely helped.

Yeah I have no idea why he would say that. Hasbro was publicly acknowledging the comics at the time. The previous Leader Megatron had a stocker sheet that included an autobot logo for a reason. And added an IDW Nautrica as part of a multipack.

@JohnWilliams-wl9px Exactly! IDW put a lot of lesser known characters (not originally introduced in the US), as well as new characters (Drift, Wingblade, Tarn, ect) on people's radar. Hasbro knew this and took advantage of it.

@@kevsil616 Windblade is a bit unique she was created by a fan vote, and IDW was forced to make her a prominent character because Hasbro wanted to promote her. For a few years Hasbro seemed like they wanted her to the 3rd face of the heroes, and the definite female representation.

I'm not going to go over every year for this one. There's just a couple repaints/retools that stand out in my mind that I feel should have been in the video but weren't The Cyberbeasts from Beast Wars II. One of them was in the video as Thrustinator and I do love that repaint and the new head sculpt they did for that version the original Cyberbeasts were already really good retools. Beast Wars Ravage, again it was in the video as Tigatron and I really don't like the Tigatron version. There is another version of TM Tigatron from the video game that uses the original version of the TM Cheetor mold without the retooling that I think fits Tigatron better and throws the green into the color scheme that's on his original toy. This repaint is just an inverted Ravage. There's too much white and nothing to really break it up. And I love Ravage's design that really should have been the one since it was actually intended to be him. The Dawn of Future's past set, I LOVE the reuse of these molds as pre-Beast Wars characters. It's kind of disapointing we never got a complete Darksyde crew out of it. I mean we have Megatron, Waspinator, and Dinobot, however Terrorsaur and Scorponok are both using Combiner Wars molds that I don't think really work cause they don't have that futuristic style that the Cybertron molds do. Tarantulus had TWO attempts at a pre-Beast Wars design and neither of them really work well for the same reason. There were other mold choices for them that exist in the fiction that would have been better, why didn't we get those figures? RID2001 Scourge, I really don't care about the original G2 Optimus Prime, that mold is always going to be Scourge to me. Powerlinx Side Burn, I had the original toy and gave it with the intention of replacing it with the Powerlinx version because I prefer the red and orange color scheme. I could never find that version. I'm hoping we get the Legacy version in those colors. I'm also going to mention Armada Skywarp. I already really like Skywarp anyway because it's my favorite color scheme, he has a cool unique power, at least in G1 that the others didn't get which make him stand out. And Armada on top of that also decide him to make him a retool, he's got his own original Mini-con which that new Mini-con I think integrates with the figure a lot better than the original one that Starscream and Thundercracker had. That is still my favorite Skywarp. And the Cloud figures which really should not work but some how do. Hot Rod from Springer, Starscream from Blitzwing works a lot better than Starscream as Blitzwing. And also I have never really liked IDW Whirl because I see that head design and that is just Shockwave to me and it appears whoever made the Cloud repaint agreed with me. I prefer RBA Whirl because she actually stands out as an original character and not just a Shockwave clone. Plus she is just a great character in general. I feel like they changed her color scheme and name to make Twitch in Earthspark cause she shares a lot of the same personality traits that made me love that version of Whirl so much. Even the eye on the drone mode in Twitch's chest seems to be a call back to IDW Whirl. When are we going to get that repaint?

I really enjoy the look of g2 vortex. My first combiner figure was the g2 combiner wars bruticus and I do remember vortex being the worst of all the combaticons. I hope age of primes makes the g2 repaint for bruticus and I hope vortex will be done properly

I dont think Black Zarak should be on here. Don't get me wrong, it's gorgeous, and im happy to have the modern update of that amazing look. But it's one of the biggest victims (pun intended) of Gold Plastic Syndrome. That sucker crumbles to dust and will inevitably beocome worthless and unplayable.

The list isn't about how good these figures are now, but how good they were during their respective years (this was established when he started making these lists) Sure, Black Zarak is disintegrating now, but at the time, he looked gorgeous and played very well.
