I'd give an honorary mention to Thrilling 30 Springer vs. LG-19 Springer. The redeco re-release is just too green. And a Takara deco was previously released in the same timeframe as the Hasbro one.

@straker4542 жыл бұрын
See, I don't agree with that. I honestly think it looked better aside from the dark green rims. A plus is that the plastic on the LG release was richer so it didn't have so much light bleedthrough and the yellow paint on the fenders helped with the blue bleedthrough of the headlights. I will give the T30 Springer credit though, his rotor sword looks great on the Siege Springer.

I bought the UW set rather than trying to get the individual CW Stunticons (though I did get Offroad and Blackjack), and the plastic around the mid-waist hinge pin snapped on the VERY FIRST DAY I HAD HIM after only a few transformations! So I went out and got a CW Motormaster, swapped out the wheels (since UW Motormaster had painted hubcaps), and gave CW Motormaster the extra weapons. (Also, there was a slight brownish tinge to the swirly not-quite-black plastic on UW Motormaster that didn't sit quite well, even though it was only noticeable under bright lights.) On a side note, UW Breakdown coming with a duplicate of Drag Strip's combiner appendage instead of CW Breakdown's piece (which was purpose-built for that car mode, to emulate Sunstreaker's turbo intakes for the eventual retool we got) was far more disappointing than the "15RACING" splayed across the CW figure's windshield.

There were a few lines where Hasbro had many (debatably) superior toys, from the random chrome of Henkei, the sticker-based deco of Arms Micron, and Takara's heavy use of metallic paint in their Animated line. I feel Hasbro's Robots in Disguise (Car Robots) line had several superior examples as well. Since it came after CR, several RID toys had more or better paint deco (like Rail Racer) and the line pioneered the widespread use of tampographed faction symbols.

Computron is a big split. Hasbro's did have some nicer color layouts, it's true. But overall Takara put much more work into the group with remolds and retools. Their complete retool of Rook for a proper vehicle mode for Nosecone and retooling Strafe from their Blast Off mold looks 10 times better regardless of some off coloring choices. I do kind of wish Takara had left the Groove guns with Afterburner like Hasbro did, the custom guns made for him contrast really hard against the style of the others' weapons.

RID2001 Megatron/Car Robots Gigatron was the only one on this list I already knew about. I had both versions of that mold though I sold my Megatron and kept Galvatron because I decided to only keep one version of the mold. Anyway I didn't even Galvatron was going to be a thing when Megatron came out and just assumed the Japanese figures were exactly the same. I only found out from someone online that Gigatron had been retooled for Devil Gigatron and that was the version both Megatron and Galvatron used in America. There's a couple other examples I remember reading about where Hasbro actually remolded parts of Takara figures. Usually to comply with U.S. toy safety laws which aren't as strict in Japan but there's a couple rare examples where Hasbro having to remold a figure also fixed issues with the original figure. I'm not as familiar with Japanese releases and not entirely clear on exactly what was remolded in any of these cases but if you research regional remolds I'm sure you'll find more content for another video.

I think Computron is more a matter of personal preference than either version being entirely superior to the other. I never bothered importing any of the other Unite Warrior teams. In fact, I generally preferred the liberties taken by the Combiner Wars versions, like alternate/extra team members. However, I had to think long and hard about which Computran to get. I agree that I preferred the colors on the Hasbro version, but I preferred Takara's mold choice for the limbs and especially the retooling they did so the combined form looked less like Superion. For me at least molds ended up being the deciding factor, as the colors were something I could paint myself.

Those two have held up great after two decades and lots of play, but ME has had a lot of paint chipping, loose joints, and just isn't the most pleasant to handle. He still does a good job being the pants for Rail Racer, but I keep wondering for how long. Mind you, the trio have been trains for the better part of at least five years, so tab stress shouldn't be an issue.
@superroboted2 жыл бұрын
Well again I have to disagree with you about a few of your selections: 1. Hasbro Armada Hoist had the wrong paint scheme 2. To say that RID Megatron was better than CarRobots Gigatron is very subjective. For one there was a whole year between the two. It just made sense to use the Devil Gigatron mold but the two toys are identical in every way other than the slight change doesn't make it better. IF they came out the same time yes, I would agree, but they had a huge gap in releases. 3. I'm 50/50 with Computron because the choices made between the two companies were more or less based off mold changes but again Takara wins because Afterburner in animation was most of the time red. And to say that Hasbro Computron was better bruh thats one I will disagree with wholeheartedly. Lets just say issa boxset that had better hands and fists, but I'd go crazy if I couled get UW Comutron at a decent price. 4. Energon Megatron.Galvatron I admit were great figures. It's amazing Hasbro went with the upscale large form to compete with Energon Oprimus Prime/Superlink rand Convoy. Many people sought after the Superlink Galvatron G not just for screen accuracy, but during the CHUG era it was a good replacement for CHUG Galavtron. You just couldn't fix that turd of a figure. During the height of CHUG SL Galvatron G sold for boatloads of money. Even now the price still sits right around $200 or less. You would think the value would drop with the onset of Kingom/Legacy Galvatron but apparently it is still sought after.

Other figures that could be considered as inferior in the Takara release, that I can think of, would be the original G1 Megatron and Beast Wars Rhinox, but it's a matter of the show accuracy of the figures, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, since the toys came first. - Takara's G1 Megatron was less cartoon accurate, as it lacked all of his gun attachments, including the scope/fusion cannon, which were replaced with a giant sword. It also lacked the chrome and had blue details instead of red ones. The only plus side is that it had his gun mode's shooting gimmick. - Beast Wars Rhinox's toy uses gray paint instead of brown. Given that Beast Wars was released in japan a year after it was released in the united states, and that many toys received more show accurate decos as variants or as their only deco, it is really strange that they released Rhinox in these colors as an exception. It is likely that it was made that way to make it more accurate to an actual rhino, but, since Rhinox's rhino mode seems to be based on a sumatran rhino, which are predominantly of a reddish-brown color, that's also an odd choice (some sumatran rhinos: imgs.mongabay.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/20/2017/11/09170813/IMG_4151.jpg dnl7t01l0fo05.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Harapan-3.jpg)

It's hard to say it's an improvement over the japanese release since it wasn't trying to accomplish what the japanese release was, but POTP Blast-Off. For whatever reason the Unite Warriors Blast-Off had this really bright brown that looked orange in most photos that was nothing like the dark brown that even the headmasters cartoon had. You could probably find one screenshot where the brown is bright enough that it's kinda close to the brown used, but no, the brown is clearly a very dark color in most screenshots you can find online of Blast-Off and Bruticus. The POTP release of the mold, while not show accurate, had the right brown color Blast-Off is more well known for. Anyone who wants a cartoon-accurate Blast Off or Bruticus is out of luck.

Hey, TJ? Are you familiar with a KZbinr named Chris McFeely? He digs real deep into Transformers lore. You should check him out.

Another good example is masterpiece sunstorm, the takara version was boring, expensive and came with a pointless coronation set, the hasbro version has an interesting paint scheme with bronze, white and red paint apps and a flame deco too, he also has a stand and is overall cheaper.

IDK man, I owned that hasbro release and it looked like it was decoed by Mcdonald's or something

For the most part I think the Combiner Wars Protectobots were better than the Unite Warriors versions. The UW versions I feel highlighted the downside of Takara's devotion to cartoon accuracy. Large sections of toys were just one color, nothing to break it up, because that's how it was in the cartoon. Hot Spot had molded in detail that was painted on the CW version but left untouched on the UW version. CW First Aid had more red on the side of the vehicle and rescue signage to break up all the white as opposed to the UW version's more accurate mostly white vehicle. Hasbro added more details that fit the characters usual color pallet and made sense for the character and vehicle, but since the cartoon didn't have any of that, the Takara versions didn't have it, and to me that made them seem blander.

huh, that's too bad that team bullet train will never return despite it being an amazing combiner that I'd argue is better designed than most combiners... probably due to being in the style of a Brave combiner instead of a transformers combiner allowing it to stand out among the crowd of limb and body formers. Speaking of the Brave Series we had more multi changers in that Sister Series to transformers with SevenChanger being around able to have 7 different modes and then we have Shadowmaru based on Sixshot able to transform into the same modes he could besides the wingwolf so Gigatron wasn't the 2nd one to have 6 forms since in terms of unique molds Sevenchanger came out and of course we have Great Shot and Shadowmaru in between.

I think they'll do another if the time calls for it. Hasbro used to say a lot of things back then, like "We'll never make a new Sky Lynx/Combiner/Headmaster", then the head of the team changed and now look at what we're getting. We've had TWO new Sky Lynx figures in that time.

@@vriderch1360 train transformers will never be a thing again, interest in trains in the west is too little to make it worthwhile… though I wouldn’t mind, I’d be screaming to high heaven if they did announce team bullet train again

The entire Transformers Animated line. Dunno why Takara went with metallic paint on their version. It clashed so bad with the art style of the cartoon and some of the colors were way off: gold for Bumblebee and moss green for Bulkhead? Why?!

I think it was universally agreed that Hasbro's FOC Skywarp looked better and even more accurate than Takara's. And this one is also highly subjective, but I think UW Menasor has a far more boring deco compared to Hasbro's Stunticons, SPECIALLY Dragstrip. They weren't meant to be super G1 accurate, so to burden them with cartoon accurate decos that were pretty monochromatic and dropped the flair Hasbro added was definitely a hindrance.
