The "customer"... wanted you to fill the body lines... with Bondo... on the hood... that gets hot... then cold... and slammed... I'd love to see a recent picture of that job.
@ForcedFalcon8 жыл бұрын
You should seriously remove this video...Fiber glassing over slightly sanded clear coat, using body filler to fill up deep body lines, sanding the primer with a scuffing sponge rather than blocking by hand..And worst of all you can't even mix body filler properly! This is why so many panel shops have such a bad reputation and ruin it for the rest of us.

you never pt any bonding agent on a painted surface, the hood should have been bare metal and the adhesive would be placed between the scoop and hood bult up with fiberglass and sanded and refilled with fiberglass and then duraglass and very little filler,and a hood still might not last a very long time because of flex ,heat and slamming the hood

lol, i purchased the exact Westin large hood scoop for $60 at Summit Racing in Nevada... all i did was peel and stick it on, polish it up with Meguiar Final Destination and it was ready in under an hour and gorgeous... i could see doing all this work if the hood scoop was functional... its just an Ornament decoration... but to each his own... he did a good job at what he wanted to do... anyways... the beat goes on........even though he forgot to put mesh in the scoop intake...

I dont get it? with all that time you spent doing that work, why didn't you at least cut out the under part and make that scoop do something useful. And if you where just going for the looks, I think its easier to just paint the scoop and then glue it to the scoop or use that real thin double sided tape. IDK I think u could have done alot better. But good job on the paint. It looks good, and smooth for real. You should put some black grill on the front under lip if you arent gonna cut the hole out. Like that it looks like is there for something.

"And then" you go on your 1st ride and watch the scoop fly off the hood. You could have elimited 5 unnecessary steps. Had you cut the hood and out the scoop on from the inside. So it doesn't crack and fly off. Not to mention, all of that filler that has absolutely no tooth and bite, because you overlapped on clear coat and paint.
@hemi089112 жыл бұрын
That scoop won't fly off at all. It has 6 bolts underneath with lock washers and nuts. I have the same on my older charger.

Man you created so much extra work for yourself you could of even masked of the area where your applying fibreglass etc anyway it's all about learning I've seen on youtube different ways even using reofill to attach scoop to bonnet then feather out with bodyfiller also wouldn't this cause air pockets between the scoop and where you have applied fibreglass sheets and wouldn't it eventually crack

@jeffreybaker846710 жыл бұрын
Yeah sorry for my comment mate. If the scoop is bolted or moulded into the bonnet,sand the bonnet and scoop and apply a small bead of urethane the stuff that holds screens in cars now, its made by sikaflex or bostik,both are good. Sand way past where you are going to use filler or bondo as you may call it,when your filling in the curved sections use a bit of plastic and bend it into a u shape as you apply filler,saves a lot of sanding. If you have many pinholes use a quick set knife on putty as we call it in oz. when all is good prime it with a high fill primer. Rub it back with a block and 600 then 800 and then apply your top coat.10 out of 10 for having a go. I have been doing this for 45 years and it looks easy to you watching me,but hey have a go. All the best from Australia...
