I absolutely love the scene of Picard and Riker trying, and failing, to distract themselves. It feels so real

Dr. Crusher: "Did this show up in your simulations?" Dr. Russell: "Yes, but I thought I made sufficient adjustments". Me: "You *THOUGHT?!"* Again, proof that Dr. Russell's approach to medicine was reckless at best and dangerous at worst. Hell, if it weren't for Worf's redundant organs, to which she actually frowned upon, she would have killed him just like that poor guy in the cargo bay.

Exactly. The point is that her form of medical practices are to and must be frowned upon at best and condemned at worst. While Crusher sees a person who’s suffering, Russell sees an opportunity first and ‘deals with’ the consequences after the fact over avoiding them when called for. She literally exploited Worf and his heritage/culture. He was ready to die for becoming paralyzed and her procedure put a patient’s life at too much risk for it to be allowed, much less be considered ethical. All Russell saw was an opportunity to gain favor and prove her procedure could work, because her patient was ok with dying due to being of a warrior race. Keyword: ‘Could’ work. It’s not like modern medicine is always risk-free, but there’s an established line for when the risks are acceptable. This isn’t one of those acceptable times. To replace an entire spine is too bold. Worf only survived because his species had evolved to develop backup organs.

Patti Yasutake was so good in these scenes. Her empathy for Worf is subtle but palpable.

I just started training in the OR. I told someone it feels like being on Star Trek, then almost ironically I see this episode on Pluto TV

Could be a new remastered effect, or you didn't notice back then because of bad TV quality.

2:00 I'm sure Marina was imagining if "Dornie" had asked her to take care of his kids should the unthinkable happen to him. They didn't get along at first, but when they figured one another out they became best friends.

"I can think of no one who would be a better parent for my son." I wonder if, in that moment, Troi started to develop feelings for Warf.

Dear lord, this show was before all these things we have now, they were dreaming up of a future with the literature available of potential techs. This show was before Netflix was even a thing.

Probably not. See the only Reason Worf survived the procedure is because of Klingon anatomy all those redundant systems. Humans do not have such advantages.

At 2:04 there is an oddly TARDIS control/ time rotor looking device in the background.... don't read too much into it, just an observation. Coincidence I'm sure, but fun.

Well in the last episode of the first season, on a LCARS display they showed the names of the actors who did play the Doctor up to the point the episode aired.
