The actual failure is the computer not verifying Captain Picards location prior to accepting critical orders, if the ship's computer showed Captain Picard's location as Engineering, then how could he give orders from the main bridge ? 🤔 the ship's computer should have had that information available and defaulted to Captain Picard's actual location and accepting only his orders.

Imagine only using one form of biometrics and something as easily copied as voice. Did he guess Picard's password or something? Also, literally how can he have a higher administrator level than Picard and Riker? None of this makes any realistic sense. Starfleet IT Support sucks I guess?

there is no moment to take a shot. you can not always see them but there never is a second without a forceshield around him. What would be the point in creating gaps? Data planned ahed the whole route down to the millisecond. Why would he leave a gap? Its like programming train intersections but leaving short gaps in the block reservation so you get a tiny chance that two trains can collide. why would anyone do it? The whole point about this kind setup is that every area someone enters is reserved and cleared beforehands.

again: the visuals dont make it clear, but there always has been at least one forcefield around him. Not for a single fraction of a second was there no shield. they thought he would need to enter their section if he wanted to use the transporter and they would be able to attack him. But he predicted that and used an alternative method. There is no point in the whole cascade sequence if you leave gaps. And for an android that is able to perfectly time his way there would be no reason to ever leave a convenient gap for other people to use

You would think a computer as powerful as the Enterprises computer would be able to differentiate and determine if the voice and person speaking are in the same room, oh wait, this is the same computer that knows were every single person is on board the ship but does not know when/if any of them disappear or are taken from the ship.

You'd think the ship would also have bio sign verification given many programs can simulate voice patterns.

You would think that from today's perspective, but the writing for these things is usually limited by the constraints of people viewing it with the lense of someone living in their time. Granted, visionaries expected those kinds of technologies, but TV sci-fi writers and producers sometimes don't look into the possibilities of the next decade.

for people complaining about the security team and rikers reaction: the visual effects arent always super clear (in fact you can see words leg sticking strough the forcefield for example) but there is never even a fraction of a second where there is a clear shot or way to data. Think about it: any gap would have been purposefully put there by data? Why would he program in any gaps? Its not even super complicated. Its a simple block system like we have used for decades to make trains dont collide. A block of space is reserved and entry is only opened when it is completely free. When the next block in front of data is free (and enclosed) the forcefield in front of him opens and lets him in. Once he is in. the forcefield behind him closes the block and the block he was previously in is opened. At no point is there any moment you can take a shot. The same way you cant have a train collide just because it approached the signal at just the wrong moment. Allowing this kind of stuff would be a sign of shoddy design. And it would make no sense for data to make such a trivial mistake.

It just occurred to me, but if a transporter beam can rip you apart and put you back together anywhere you like, then Starfleet has all the info they should need on Data. That dude who wanted to dismantle him should be able to create a replica Data on a holodeck and dismantle that version if he likes. No need to destroy the actual Data.

My understanding is that a random number is not always random but is always biased to a certain number. I think in Data's case he leans into the 7s to much.

"I wouldn't do that the phase coils don't react well to ricochets". 30 years of startrek episodes never once seen a phaser ricochet. Now beans yeah they would bounce right off that forcefield so maybe he had a bean cannon instead.
