@@ekaj254 nah, they mention sisko by name as an admiral in the alt universe, since everything there is sorta the same but not radically different and in other places it's mentioned sisko returns from the wormhole in the main timeline, I think the logical choice for Watcher is Guinan. Plus showrunners mentioned in S3 of Picard there's going to be more DS9 stuff. Guinan being in the alt timeline makes sense since it's only a few hundred years since we saw her there with Mark Twain. How they'll explain the aging might be tricky, or at least, they'll have to explain why she took the decision to appear more aged (she says in the first episode El-Aurians can choose) before the TNG events rather than later. I like the Jurati theory though, it makes total sense given they hide the identity of the BQ and she literally counters everything they do minus the self destruct.

I for one have been really excited that the Borg returned to star trek, and Q as well. After all, it was Q who introduced these 2 entities way back in season 2 of TNG. So it is bittersweet that they all get to have this reunion of sorts. It would be awesome to have an origin story of how the Borg came into being. I've often had this feeling that we are going to get just that

@@FiXato as nerdy as this may sound, I have reviewed those before, but they were just mostly theories and differences. Guinan herself in season 2 stated that the Borg have been around for thousands of years. Which didn't line up with most of those other theories. But no one has taken into account time travel. The Borg seem to know all to well how to travel in time, and even feel things thought time. But they haven't mastered conquest through the means of traveling in time. Kind of ironic don't you think? Aren't there novels on the origin of the Borg? I read them a long long time ago. Like a super race of explorers and a few got stranded, one of them consumed the others to survive but the hunger dissolved her mind. She was a perfectionist or something like that. Her race was able to synthesize the omega particle for power which the Borg long to capture above anything else. The Borg queen is the long distant remnant of that original female that got stranded and she had to use bionics to keep her body alive. But the hunger dissolved her mind so she focused so much on perfection and being more and more perfect. I don't think I have the details right but it was something like that.

"this isn't about addressing social issues this is about hitting you over the head with it presenting only one side and essentially lecturing you" Ah, so very different than classic Star Trek episodes like "Let That Be Your last Battlefield" or "Somewhere Beyond the Stars", then? Because those were so very subtle in their commentary, and absolutely presented "the other side" of the issue, didn't they? I mean, Star Trek's obviously renowned for it's subtlety, isn't it? And remind me, given that Picard's none-too-subtle themes include "fascists are terrible" and "bigotry is bad", what's the other side that you think needs their perspective presented? "that's the politics of your generation" Is it really? And what generation is that? "It's kind of ironic coming from the people that want to cancel Dukes of Hazzard" What the Hell are you talking about? Dukes of Hazzard was cancelled in 1985. Interesting. I suspect the queen is referring to Guinan (the watcher) in LA? If this is the case it means Q made the change after Guinan and Picard's reunion. I cannot imagine Q would be to pleased knowing Guinan is still around and in contact with Picard. Then again Q was not able to detect Guinan until she chose to reveal herself in Q Who. Guinan can also detect alterations to the timeline and alternating paths in individuals the same as the queen. This is probably something the Borg gained by the assimilation of the El'Aurian's. I wonder if we will be getting the Guinan vs Q fight that we never got in Q Who?
@LegacyArkGames2 жыл бұрын
I'm thinking the Watcher is Guinan as well, because I don't think they'd bring her back just for one brief chat with Picard. She has her own history to carry with the Borg, too, to say nothing of Q (I can't imagine them NOT crossing paths being in the cards). That said, the Borg just seem to be really good with time travel, but they've probably assimilated many races interested in it. Guinan's senses were not universal to her species (if the El-Aurian on DS9 is any indication), seemingly just those who were caught in the Nexus ribbon and beamed back. When Guinan sensed things, she knew they weren't right, such as knowing something's wrong when the Enterprise-C changes the timeline in TNG but she can't say what's wrong. She knows Tasha should be dead, can't say how it happened, only that it was meaningless. The Queen pinpoints the reason for the time change down to the date, year, and location in a second! I think this actress is great for the role. It's hard to upstage Alice Krige in the part, but I'm impressed at how she captures the eerie quality.

The problem here is that in this universe it is possible that Spock did not "exist". In the hall of skulls, one of those belonged to "Sarek of Vulcan" aka Spock's father. It's not canon, but the reason Q introduced the borg to humanity was likely not to test humanity but to deter the borg from being a threat to the Q. Distract them, since the Q clearly fear the borg. Though the borg also were set upon gianan's people, and she and the Q are enemies, so the borg likely are aware of the Q in some form and often sent to eliminate the continiums enemies... Though should lazy writing prevail, the borg were the first species the Q revealed themselves to, and the borg seeks to master the universe like them and the borg's scattered memories of it's inception is due to the Q trying to destroy the borg time and time again... that or something even dumber, there is no writing talent at CBS anymore.
@deepblueskyK2 жыл бұрын
@@EMHMarkIX This doesn't necessarily mean that the Borg could pose any threat to the Continuum whatsoever. I highly doubt that. Please take a closer look at the 'extended' Kardashev scale (Wikipedia, etc.) that theoretically classifies the stage of development of indivudual civilizations: The Borg appear to be a type II+ civilization whereas the Q Continuum appears to greatly exceed type IV - arguably the Q are a type V civilization. They are simply off limits for the Borg. Q's moralizing lecture could mean something else. Maybe even the Continuum has some kind of 'prime directive / moral code of conduct' and doesn't want to provoke the Borg, because doing so could cause the Collective to seriously harm lesser races by accident. In a figural sense, it's like sticking a stick into a bee hive - with unforeseeable consequences for the 'local environment'. Lol the foreshadowing! "For a second there it sounded like you said 'Borg Queen'. Agnes, is that you? Can't get rid of me that easily."

For season 1 of Picard, I was like, I guess it's ok. I wasn't running home to stream an episode right away, thinking to myself maybe I'll watch it maybe I won't right now. But season 2 of Picard has got me waiting on edge, eyes glued to this show. It's totally amazing this season so far. I don't know who lit the fire under the writers behinds, but fantastic job guys.

I agree, with season one I was meh about watching it but I'm hooked on season 2 to the point where when the episode ends I want to watch it again which never happened with S1, I have never wanted to revisit it... But this is brilliant, as you say its like someone kicked the writers up the arse because I'm feeling this like TNG, when an episode ends I'm already craving more and a week is torture....very well done.

I agree. I just hope they can deliver a full, compelling story. There were kernels of good ideas in season 1, but it all fell apart in so many foolish ways. Discovery's even worse. Almost want to sign the petition sanctioning Kurtzman, and asking that his Trek be removed from Canon. It's out there. Crazy ST fans.

I was actually surprised by the number of people who wrote off Picard after S1. TNG's first season wasn't all that great either, but it went on to become amazing.

@@Tantalus010 TNG started off from zero, Picard had... well all of TNG to jump off from.

Very intriguing storyline. Still think of Q as a trickster that is/are really only malevolent or benevolent if it entertains or interests it/them.

I feel like he is only helping because where's the fun in watching humanity destroy itself and Picard is helpless/clueless to do anything about it?
@paigelore2 жыл бұрын
popular theory is that everything Q has every done where Picard/Enterprise is involved was a side step bit of assistance. Even in regards to the Borg. The theory is that the Cube Q tossed enterprise infront of was already on its way to earth and Q wanted his favorite toys (humanity/picard) warned in advance. Its a time loop. In First Contact the Borg show up in the past and wreck their sphere in the artic pole region. In Enterprise the remains of that Sphere get a signal off to the Delta Quadrant. Enterprise Era Borg send a Cube but dont yet have the Quantum Warp (not yet assimilated) so have to go the slow way across the galaxy. When they are resonably close Q notices the cube approaching a unaware Humanity and goads Picard in just the right way to justify setting the Enterprise off to meet the Cube thats already enroute.

Something happened to piss q off. Hes terribly worried about something off screen and has no time for the petulance of Picard who some how fucked things up. Right when he made the call to end the potential of making humanities most powerful ally. From the moment of Q Who his plan had been set in motion to guide humanity to the moment the Borg needed humanities help. First when Seven entered scene left, and now something far more threatening that they didnt send "a" queen, but "our Queen" to negotiate alliance. (which is why she was so different to the other queens. More mechanical as she is the Prime Queen and central hub of the collective). Somehow, this step leads humanity away from its enlightened future in the same way Q did in 2024.

@@AestusL4 Maybe the Borg are being threatened by the artificial intelligence that launched 'V'ger' all those movies and episodes ago...?

Q always ends up helping. He just does it with his own flair that annoys all around him, which may be why he does it that way.

Would've been a cool touch if when Raffi said "You don't see that every day", Seven replied with "I used to".
