It's amazing how they fail to appreciate how unique TK's singing is. All the dramatic load and melancholy imprinted in almost a crying singing. That's what makes TK different and so successful. But honestly, I often expect this kind of reaction from vocal coaches, of course not the great ones that you have in "real life" or on KZbin, but the most simplistic ones, because usually these are the ones who glorify lyrical vocal virtuosity and don't understand music as a form of expression and transmission of feelings. They are the famous "professional musicians" who never had any significant success with their own music, precisely because they don't understand music, they understand vocal technique.

this honestly showcased that youtube vocal coach ego perfectly. there’s a reason this band has had so much success over the last two decades. if you listen to the original you’d understand it is most definitely not out of place. it’s a rock song that’s been transferred over to just classical instruments. i saw them perform this song live, and it was absolutely mind-blowing how perfect his vocal and guitar performance was. his vocals are on purpose, and he does it because it works so well for the context of the song. i’m sure you pissed a lot of people off saying it was a joke knowing how much this song means to some. the guy is insanely skilled and i’ve seen him do pretty much whatever he wants with his voice and have it work. he could’ve performed this literally any way he wanted, but he chose this approach for that emotion factor. everything about it is on purpose, in other performances you can see him completely ditch the voice-cracks and cries, but he does it purposefully here, because it just makes sense for the song. he used a microphone that literally no-one on the first take uses, because there’s no pop-filter, or sheltering. just pure emotion. i swear there’s like one or two vocal coaches on this platform that understand not everything is supposed to be ‘perfect’ in technique or vocals, and instead music can be raw in emotion and that doesn’t take away from their skill. you can like or dislike whatever you want, that doesn’t bother me, but some of the comments you lot made were just being dicks for no reason, to call him someone who “wants to be famous when they’re not” is insane knowing how skilled he is, and how much of an audience this band has retained. i don’t get the point in being hateful. if you want a performance of this song in its original genre and vocal placement, then here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qaTKapKsaLSdnrM

While he is singing you can notice (if you actually pay attention smh) that he is PURPOSELY letting his voice crack/go in that way higher pitch (I ain't a vocal coach or a singer and its pretty obvious)... The reason for this is he is embodying the main character of Tokyo Ghoul, Kaneki Ken. If you actually read the lyrics instead of basing it on voice alone since you can't even understand it in Japanese you would actually understand WHY he sings this song the way he does. Part of a song is the meaning/emotion behind it is it not? If it's not then whats the point... Read the lyrics in english and tell me that you can't say its not an emotional song. When he repeats "Don't forget" at 12:20 (oh wait you dont have captions on to understand it HAHAHA), you can clearly see that he is in full control of his voice until the last repeat where he lets his voice crack ON purpose... I play violin and piano, their outlook on music is exactly what mine was back then, when you had to play it perfectly(not that I'm saying TK did it badly or imperfect). I remember hating practicing because you had to speedrun the learning proccess via doing the exams like 2 times a year or something. I know that people will have different opinions on music based on their personal experiences with it but I find it really hard to understand how is there three people (professionals?) in the room and none of them find his singing beautiful 🥲. It was funny to hear them say that tk needs to practice more if he wants to do that stuff as his career, considering they’re one of the most famous and well respected music artists in Japan and even more. I’m wondering how would they like the song in its original arrangement, maybe a combination of the singer’s voice together with the acoustics was just off putting for them.

You just insulted one of the most loved and meaningful OPs in the community without actually listening to the original (where this pitch shows that its the real star), not knowing the lyrics that shows the pain and anguish the singer and character are feeling (again shown using a high pitch voice to symbolize the his thoughts). I don't know about you but to me this song (both this version and the original) are a masterpiece that have accompanied me through hard times for years, and music to me is more than being just pitch perfect (the strangled voice depicts the character being pushed into a corner and well - "strangled" by the duality of his life and choices which you would know if you understood the lyrics which dwells into topics like depression, anxiety and suicide - see hence the strangled voice). First time in my life that I have had to comment on a reaction channel - if you are that ignorant then please find a different approach for your channel's future cause it would seem that you are quite lacking in terms of musical knowledge. Tk purposely makes his voice a little pitchy for this song to get the emotion through. I know his voice and style isn't for everyone, but most are still able to respect the technique that he uses even while being critical in a respectful way. It is quite telling that other singers, songwriters, and composers either respect what to has done or love his music (not just unravel) and are blown away by it (especially since TK not only wrote and sang the song, but is also the lead guitarist).Critisize all you like but at least try and respect the artist or the art that is being created (at least don't call them a joke unless you’ve met them and have determined they aren't taking the art seriously). It takes courage to make and try something new

You don't understand if you sing this song properly it wouldn't be such great. This song must be raw, dirty. You need to understand that great vocalist is not a great singer. Singer must feel song and some mistakes or differences from standard vocals rule is signatures. That is why you can see that some back vocals have a great level of vocals but can't become singers.

I perfectly understand your point of view and understand your opinions. But when you hear, watch or read something new that you don't understand at first, often what happens is that you are approaching it inappropriately. Think about it: not only do you know nothing about the singer, but you also know nothing about his work, not even the name of the band he sings in or its history. You definitely should have chosen another version of this song and not "The first take" one, just to start reasoning about it. In my opinion, your approach was too academic for this specific case - and even wrong, not just inappropriate, because you lacked respect to the singer's work you don't even know. I think this is the weakness of this sort of review: you come to it completely unprepared, and that's never promising. Then, you are fully understood. I think all the comments below said all I want to say...so, If you really think he's a joke and bad skill, and want to make a good reaction video, at least try to sing the note 'correctly' in the video, or maybe you can do a cover and perform what is the 'right sound' sounds like. The whole video just makes you three like a fool in the video but knowing nothing.
