This validates my strategy of playing mostly quick matches. My opponents are usually either someone higher than me I can learn from or someone worse than me I can experiment against. It lets me practice, study replays, and identify and break bad habits without being overly focused on rank. Great video thanks for the info!

I feel like I lose more in Quick match than I do Rank... you do get a wide range of players. So I am able to experiment and try to learn people's patterns since a lot of ppl play certain characters all the same way. But yeah I usually "practice" in quick match for a while before heading over to rank.
@Brian-oz8io8 ай бұрын
@@hang1893 nice! sometimes I feel that way too but ultimately it doesn’t matter bc I’m just trying to practice and get better and collect replays to study for the day :D so I’ll just do nothing but quick matches and drills for a month or two and then come back to whatever color I was at and smash it in a few hours! Right now I’m trying to practice stepping at the right time and blocking a lot to get a handle on every character’s spam moves. I feel like if I was doing that in ranked I’d get demoted so fast haha. Some generic tips against flowchart mashers: Mid check when you have frames. Many flowcharters want you to jab at wrong time to run into their high crush launcher trap. If opponent doesn’t respect frames, don’t do low/mid mixup against them. You just get hopkicked. Instead press fast safe mid CH moves or df2. Whenever you have frames, use them. Preferably with mid attacks. Don’t let them start their flow chart mixup. But have to be careful with pushback moves. Many opponents at lower ranks (blue and below) just do pushback move + immediate whiff punish. You can check them with fast long range moves or just backdash and whiff punish. Another class of flow charts is plus on block string enders. You just have to learn those strings and duck launch. But it can be overwhelming if they just spam various strings randomly. Usually string spammers don’t know how to defend, so best to start your own offence and keep it flowing.

@TkAnakin8 ай бұрын
It’s also important to start your turn off with the correct moves (aka faster pokes after blocking). If it is “your turn”, but you spend it on a slower move that allows you to be beaten out by their “mashing”, then it wasn’t your turn…to do THAT specific attack.

I’ve got this problem real bad too. Tekken’s got some weird timing to it but you just gotta believe in the framedata. Just learn your own so you can figure out a few frametraps. If Tekken is anything like Streets, people cant block a frame trap worth crap

Anakin, so you’re essentially saying to be playing with an active mind, instead of playing brain off and hoping that your patterns and reactions are stronger than your opponents. My question is, how can you develop the skill of playing with an active mind? I usually start out trying to do that then a couple of games in I fall into my habits and the worse part is that I don’t even realize I’m doing it !

Then when you go back to your main it will feel easier then you can take things from your secondary and help your main character with the new techniques
@mags39778 ай бұрын
I don’t get the “if you play slow you miss the frames…playing proper, frame tight” those are contradicting, you either do the frame trap or not, if your trying to use ‘mental frames’ that only works if you’re in the opponents head, and if they’re mashing, you’re definitely not in their head. They’re conditioning you. If a scrub DPs 24/7 and you jab into the dp everytime, you’re the scrub
@mags39778 ай бұрын
Yeah, it’s repeated in the video “he just did it faster” then nah, you didn’t frame trap idk what else there is to it. The rps frame traps in this game are decided on what you think your opponent is gonna do, ie, s characters with string into stance, the stance follow up YOU choose doesn’t beat EVERY option, so if you did a single hit mid outta stance & they mash PC, when you also had a low option outta stance, then YOU made the wrong decision
@WeMissDimebag8 ай бұрын
He’s not talking about frame traps. His point is there’s more to playing correctly than just having the right idea. You may know what to do to counter something but if you can’t execute it properly , you will lose anyway. And that execution becomes more difficult the faster your opponent plays. Would also caution against thinking of things as ‘correct/wrong’ decisions. Every decision is contextual. In your example, his decision to PC beat my choice of a mid *in that one interaction*, but the context of all the other interactions is crucial to judging whether that’s good for me or not. I’ve now seen he will use PC as an answer in that situation, which could be advantageous or disadvantageous for me depending on a couple factors.
@mags39778 ай бұрын
@@WeMissDimebag yeah but idk why execution comes into the conversation. Like I said, you’re either doing the frame trap or not. “How fast your opponent plays” is NOT a factor in a frame trap. The frame trap by definition doesn’t LET your opponent push a button. The fact is, this game is heavy RPS. You can’t frame trap 100% of the time in a dynamic rps type of game, my point is the frame trap you CHOOSE to do is based off your assumption of what options you want to shut down for your opponent & then conditioning comes into play. “He does low after stance every time, imma block” but me as the player I have to know I’m making you think that, then go mid. It’s too dynamic. Throws & armor can beat highs on frame trap but string checks like asukas 1,3 beat the armor.
@mags39778 ай бұрын
& yes we agree on it being contextual during the fight but that doesn’t excuse you making the ‘wrong’ read. It was wrong, that’s all there is to it. You got hit lol

I feel like the people complaining( including me) are the ones that can’t be bothered to wait 2 years for them to change the game. Especially since it was like that with every entry in series apparently, it almost like it could be predicted after 30 years and some necessary measures got taken care of beforehand. You know the argument “this is how tekken is” seem just wrong. When Josh gets late to work cos he’s always late people won’t be putting up with that treating it as “ it’s just how Josh is”, he might get used to new working hours in a year. Josh gets fired instead. Josh needs to change yesterday if he wants to keep the job.
@TkAnakin8 ай бұрын
It’s not ‘late’ if that’s just how long fighting games take to balance out/refine themselves. Need to gather data, figure out ways to adjust mechanics and add in new ones. It’s not as if nothing happens for two years and all of a sudden new version comes out. They’re working their way to the finish line and listening to the feedback along the way.
@Sammysapphira8 ай бұрын
Its impossible to predict how players will play. You can't as a developer predict a player meta. In fact, most metas come from things the developer didn't even expect. They can't magically release a perfectly balanced game on launch. No game has ever don't that; not even Chess is balanced. White has a much higher win rate than Black despite all the pieces being the same.
@Mckhus8 ай бұрын
@@TkAnakin I hope you are right about that and they are holding off on big changes to after EVO to not shake up the meta too much messing up the pros.
