This is my second attempt speeding up my tractor supply county line log splitter. The first video received a lot of viewer concerns that I would damage my splitter the way I had it modified. This modification does not allow the splitter to have pressure or pivot points that could damage the log splitter.

Awesome fix Andrew! So simple yet super effective! My Ruggedmade came with a stroke restrictor plate and pre-drilled holes in the I-beam to mount at various lengths, works great to speed up cycle time but I break bolts every 2-3 cords I run through it! I just took it off a few days ago because of this, I need something like yours!!

Seems like the easier solution is to extend the stop plate toward the cylinder. This would allow for the shorter stroke without any abnormal wear on the cylinder side.
@TKCL

Are you talking about the bottom plate? If so that still doesn't benefit me completely. I also split in the vertical position and raising the bottom plate would make putting large firewood rounds on it extremely difficult.

2 things.. a tapered wedge on the back of the splitter head.. to push the head of the carriage bolt sideways.. could be a 2122 or 2123 rubber biscuit 3 buck motor mount from the parts store. check it out. just a single bolt thru the middle of the biscuit and an edge cut at an angle. perhaps a little grease.. just an idea what a 2123 motor mount looks like.. www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=314881&jsn=259. almost every parts store stocks them.. they come in so handy.. heck when i was a kid i had them on my skate board instead of roller skate cushions on the trucks. bump stops. rubber feet.. doubled up as isolator cushions. you also need an out feed tray to stack a few dozen pieces of split wood on as it comes off the splitter.. backing your splitter closer to to the stack .. so you can every 3 or 4 minutes take a break from splitting and pickup splits with your right hand and without twisting or walking pass them to your left hand for adding to the stack.. this requires you to have your bucked ends closer to the finished stack too.. or set up a distance from the stack and put splits into the front bucket of your tractor.. when its as full as you want.. stop splitting and drive over to the stack.. again.. not having to pick each one up off the ground with a full bend is the idea..

Great job. I revamped my splitter last winter. I replaced my standard control with an auto cycle and replaced the 30" cylinder with an 18" and it had a 2" rod. All I split is 16" rounds and these changes cut my cycle time in half. Again your fix for your splitter is spot on.

That's some impressive engineering. Detents in a hydraulic valve are generally 3 balls under spring pressure. They are pushed into grooves in the valve spool. A weaker spring or a longer taper on the valve spool may have been a simpler fix.

LOVE THE SYSTEM YOU MADE. Because I’m so impressed with this I would like to ask if you would be willing to build me one. That would include everything you made: spring, privet-rebar with pipe, total screw rod assembled parts, etc. If you would do this I’d pay you for the package, shipping, and for your time. I just do not have the equipment to do this. If you would do so, all I’d have to do is find the spot where to have a welder weld the rebar swivel part and then I can drop the rest in place after drilling a hole to put the spring retention screw onto my splitter. Please take time to consider my request. Thank you so very much, hope to hear back soon. Best wishes, Michael

Sorry just found this comment. I honestly don't feel comfortable building them due to modifying someone else's splitter, it's just not a risk I am willing to take. Not to mention that I am extremely busy with a bunch of projects. You be able to have your welder fabricate this very easily. I purchased the all thread, bolts and nuts from tractor supply. They are all 3/8

Really great video thanks.. My problem on this home built log splitter that I've been using is the that whoever builtnit didn't look into options to make it faster. The Hydraulic Control Valve in spring actuated so you have to hold the handle forward and reverse when operating it. It make for very slow splitting. I've thought about changing the control valve to a detent but for a good control valve they run 400 or more. Also, this splitter is heavy and awkward to use in the vertical position because of the weight of the rail. Almost takes too people to raise it. I think I'm just going to look for another splitter that's fasr with a detent valve..

Nice work! Seems to work perfectly and was so simple to make. I made a similar kick out for my Champion log splitter but my handle is mounted up high and so my design was a bit more complicated. Such a time saver not having to wait on the ram to travel those extra inches every time. I also added a couple inches to the top of the splitting wedge which seems to help. One other thing i did was to add some "ramps" to the shoe of the wedge to help lift the smaller logs up and out of the channel so they would not get bound up as they split.
