Never seen a wooden shelter. All here in Oklahoma, (tornado alley) are concrete, above and below ground. Stay safe. Just an idea, but we also storage emergency supplies in ours. Like tents sleeping bags, stove and cooking supplies, as well as some water and food. Just in case we loose everything, we can manage for a few days while we figure things out.

Andrew, a few thoughts for consideration... 1) Put reflective strip around door, particularly the bottom, do in dark dust night conditions if you are crawling* in high wind (*you built far from house), then you will see door. 2) put wind break to shield door from wind when opening and closing in high wind... you can get savage whip on door... and it could be very hard to open or close door and possibly injure people. 3) Put big stout vertical bar handle on door so two or more hands can be used to manage door in strong wind. Can you reach handle if crawling in a gale? How do latches work... Safe living ahead for you. Fun watching tour home grow!

If you're ever looking for a really nice light gray color, we use one on most of the interior walls at work called Gray Owl. Because we wanted it to look like a shed out in the yard, not a storm shelter. We keep a very close eye on the radar and go ahead to the shelter anytime we see a band coming with tornado warnings. It's not 100 percent ideal, I know.
