Definitely do the foam filter. It made a huge difference. I'm waiting on the new cover as well seeing the stock one is small and clogs up pretty quick when I use my Alaskan mill. Also should help drop the chips down and not shoot them 15feet behind me. Love my 462 and all of WCS upgraded. Going do the new suspension kit as well as I run a 32 bar and tends to bottom out but it pulls a Oregon skip tooth just fine on the 32" I run a full house on the 25" and she eats. Make sure your running good gas also that makes a huge difference, I do 40:1 with VP 2 stroke synthetic mix with 95 octane ethanol free gas.

The dogs look like a great upgrade and simple enough for even me to do. Glad to see you looking for a good use for the noodles. I try to do most of my cutting in the same general location. I cut everything into log lengths in the woods, stack the logs for storage on cross ties and pull them out and cut as needed and when it is too wet to get in the woods. I mostly add the saw dust I generate to the compost pile. I have a huge compost pile--2 bays side by side each 12 feet by 32 feet. I also keep a bucket in the garage and use it as oil dry. Congratulations on the success of your channel. I look everyday for a new video and I really enjoy your entertaining and informative content.

Thank you for the kind feedback! Boy I wish I had compost piles as big as yours. Once we get animals, I plan to make larger compost piles.

@@TKCL Mine are mostly leaves and grass clippings. I live a wooded area and I get the leaves off my yard and 2 of my neighbors. I move the piles around a little with my the bucket on my BX. In theory I move them from one bin to the other but both bins are full now. I garden exclusively in raised beds. I have 9 x 4X12 3 2x6 high and 5 x 4x16 3 2x6 high. I usually end up with more compost than I need. It has become just anothe excuse to play with my toy tractor

Bought a 462 late in '22. Just put the big stihl dogs on it. Your right, had to size the dog on the cover to fit! The thing i noticed the most about the original dog is it made my saw pull slightly to the right. I assume this was because it was a single dog. The new aggressive dogs that stihl says is a "option", fixed that problem. Good video, enjoyed it!

I've been running a ms441c for 10 years and it's been a great saw. It's a little heavier and slower than a 462,but gets the job done. I've opened up the muffler some and run a 28" bar on it. It does great cuttin our big red oak around here in West Virginia. I've gotta tune it up soon and get me a new 2 in 1 file and hopefully I'll get to order West coast saws 3 point dawgs. I'm still splitting 4-5 cord of wood a year by hand and would really love a log splitter in a year or two. Love your videos, keep it up

The chainsaw chips or shavings whatever you want to call it makes the best firestarter I've ever seen. Take a 5 gallon bucket and fill it half way with shavings. Then pour a couple gallons on kerosene in with it and let the chips soak it up stirring occasionally. It will turn in to a paste. When u wanna make a fire smear some on 1 of your logs and light it. Will blow your mind and making an awesome fire starter from scrap. I use to bucket it up in one gallon pales and sale it. Even took some of the little fruit cup holders u remember from school and filled them up and sold them as fire starters. Just set it in the fire and light it. I sold them for a dollar each years ago. You could sale them with your firewood. Just a thought.....awesome mods to the chainsaw!!! Sounds freakin awesome .....

One of the best chainsaw videos I've seen and I've seen a LOT. straight to the point and your reasoning for the upgrades totally make sense, love how you explained how the saw is getting beat up with the Lego factory spike (singular). I also agree they should come with beefy dual dogs and a roller catcher. I just bought a 462 a few days ago, I always opt for non- mtronic cause I like to do the tuning, and if I have a problem I don't have to bring it to the dealer to get plugged in like a car. I did what you did before I stumbled on your video. I got the West Coast Saw double dogs/spikes but the 3 point ones, no paint, and they just caught my eye more, bark box, and roller catcher. Saw is still in box, no gas in er till I get the upgrades. WCS claims the bark box also keeps saw running cooler too. I also bought a new ms261 a few years ago, the newer slimmer version with slightly more hp, diff cylinder design if remember right. The clutch cover on the newer 261's come with pre drilled recessed holes to run dual dogs/spikes which I upgraded to and it does handle better. It's a screamer and I can cut through 20" ash green or dry like butter. I like the 261 so much I bought a second one a week ago haha. Those as well are not mtronic. I ordered West Coast Saw "universal" muffler mods for them too. People will probably laugh at why I would do that to a 50cc saw. But I'm telling ya, it's a mean little saw, especially if tuned right and keep chain razor sharp. One other thing I did on all these saws was upgrade the "green" laminated bars to "yellow" solid steel bars, more heavy duty and have a wider nose which is supposedly better for bore cutting. And of course I run RS full chisel "yellow" non-safety chain. Cuts much much better than the "green" chain I first had. Just gotta filer er a little more often but to me it's worth it. Oh, also wanted to say I was very impressed that you had on all the appropriate safety gear on, ears, chaps, safety glasses, gloves, and looks like steel toe boots. 0:01 I've seen so many people cutting in shorts and shoes, even SANDALS! Plus no eye, ear, hand protection, and some not even wearing a hard hat when felling 🤦🏼‍♂️. Great video!👍🏻👍🏻

Thanks for the kind words! I absolutely love my 462, but that 261 is the perfect firewood saw in my opinion. Very light, nimble and surprisingly powerful.

If you get chickens in the future the saw chips/dust and noodles would be great as bedding. The mix of chicken manure and wood chips makes a great compost.

The saw upgrades are great and the muffler and the dogs are making a difference right away. By the way, thank you, thank you, thank for not doing a 15 minute dissertation on the practice of flipping over your bar. That has to be, without a doubt, the most commonly covered chainsaw subject on KZbin. What I don't understand is if you should flip your bar every time you sharpen, every 50 hours, or whatever it is, why does every KZbinr have their bar upside down? It seems like half of them would have it straight. I honestly think it's a little bit of showmanship. Also, I do flip my bar over occasionally, I just don't tell anyone. Great video, now I'm going to the WCS website.

Lol, I do flip my bar ever 2-3 sharpenings, but I definitely don't talk about it unless asked. I have had a lot of people comment as to why my bar is on upside down. Haha

Just curious if you are flipping your bar when you sharpen your blades or every couple of tanks of gas….or if you are getting enough bar oil…I noticed the bottom of your bar looking a little ‘burnt’….I am pretty mew to the whole chainsaw gig, so it could just be wood build up…just found your channel….Subbed…great vid, thanks for the effort of putting it together for us.

I do flip my bars, that was actually brown bark build up. I cut a certain type of tree here that has extremely thick bark around it and it gunked the bar up. I showed in a video at one point how to knock a small pin in and get more oiling out of the factory adjustment.
