So KZbin, there we have it, a performance from the undefeated Australian Sam Goodman. So he gave us an awesome ending to the fight and presented a good account of himself.
So Australia is going through a major period of awakening or an era of enlightenment when it comes to boxing. There's been a massive wave of good talent emerging from Australia over the last couple of decades. To name a few we have George Kambosos Jr, Jai Opetaia Tim Tszyu, Liam Paro who beat Montana Love, also Jason and Andrew Maloney. So there are many up-and-coming Australian stars
Now let's cut to the chase guys... Goodman does some things well but we need to discuss whether he can hold it together in the ring with Naoya Inoue and see whether there are any merits to him claiming the undisputed spot from him. Now there were a few things that I saw in this fight that could be problematic for him.
- So the first thing I saw right out of the gate was that he Moves backward and forwards but doesn't really try to create angles or at least counter off them.
- He does Feint but uses very little head movement; Inoue will pick up on the fact that the target is always in the same position.
- Doesn't cut off the ring when applying pressure. So he tends to follow you and allow you to escape from the ropes. In the scenario where he may want to apply pressure to Inoue effectively, he will not want Inoue to see an opportunity to exit. If Inoue doesn't feel the pressure moving backward he may look to set up and walk Goodman onto counterattacks.
And thats even in the case where Inoue feels the need to back up in the first place.
- Another thing I noticed was that Goodman tends to Headhunt a lot and doesn't work the body enough. First 2 rounds I barely saw any body shots and in the third when he landed telling body shots he didn't really capitalise on the impact of it. Even in the 4th, he didn't really target the body enough bearing in mind Schleibs was visibly hurt from earlier body shots.
- The last thing I will say is that if Goodman tries to apply pressure in a fight against Inoue He will need to develop a better understanding of distance and prevent Inoue from landing first.
So in effect, he can't move forward like say Hatton, rather he needs to use his lead hand to measure distance and be more cautious like say a Bivol or he needs to improve his head movement so that he can work around that first explosive attack from Inoue... so more like an Isaac Cruz. This will prevent him from entering a lot of 50-50 exchanges with Inoue, and you don't want that!
But this will allow him to be first or establish effective counterattacks. To set up those counterattacks against Inoue you're going to need to set traps and hope he takes the bait... even if he does take the bait you need to be fast enough to land your punches and take your opportunities.

Goodman might be the only 122 pounder in the world that can give Inoue some problems. He is very good technically, and speed wise. His jab especially is very impressive.

Goodman is fighting non ranked fighters. His only notable opponent is Aleem and he couldn’t even knock him out. Aleem isn’t that good either. No 122 pounder gives Inoue problems.

Also look at Mark Schleibs record. His wins are only against fighters with losing records and his losses are against guys with winning records.

Goodman will taste his pressure games if he fights Inoue. Not convincing enough to win against Inoue. Goodman should fight Casimero or Nery instead.

Poor coach advice - almost pointless - end of 2nd round for Schleibs. Telling the weaker man who's clearly struggling to rough up the taller stronger man is never going to fly. Would have been better to say move then at times pick where you pitch your battles, and dig in your counters. Keep moving your head, make Goodman miss and hang in there. 10 round fight.

no, goodman would have simply cornered him and flogged him as he was doing before, sadly schleibs is just not as good as goodman, he would have lost no matter what

After watching this and another fight of him vs a Japanese dude , I will say that Goodman has zero chance against the Monster lol. I mean he’s good but doesn’t really have what it takes to stop Inoue.

intelligent pressure, none of this brawling nonsense where you get needlessly battered by lesser opponents. However i don't think this sort of pressure is gonna work against inoue if they fight, both men are pressure fighters and when 2 pressure fighter fight it is usually the harder hitter who wins and inoue has displayed more than just superior power as well.

Bunch of biased Australians, thinking this guy can beat naouya or rather hoping for a naouya to go to Australia so they can rob naouya like they did pac

honestly, the pac call wasn't even that bad, everyone over exaggerates the "robbery". go back and watch the fight and count the punches, it was a very close fight. as far as i can tell it is you who is biased against australians, i don't know why you are but it is strange.
