you mentioned that you feel safer in korea than you do in canada, is there a stigma around women being out late at night like there is in north america? like, is it as a big deal for a girl to go out late at night to hit up the convenience store or something? compared to north america, it's basically just not an option for a female to leave the house when it gets dark unless she's with a group of people or her boyfriend or male friend
@alexisjeong1019 жыл бұрын
+Foolkat101 In Korea (I live in Vancouver, Canada but I go back for holidays since family's there) there are A LOT more people out even very late and early in the morning, so in that sense it feels safer. Still I don't feel completely safe (like I could wear a bikini out at 11pm and no one would try to grope me) but compared to Canada, yes you will likely feel safer (Vancouver anyways :3 )
@user-ez5vq9fd2t9 жыл бұрын
+Foolkat101 It's more or less the same. The only difference is if you're living in a city environment like Seoul, there will always be people late at night, so you're not as vulnerable since you're not alone.

Been in Korea for almost 14 years now, and only 1 unhygienic Korean practice still bothers me.......used toilet paper sits in open-topped plastic bins in every toilet cubical. That's right. You're not supposed to flush used TP in Korea. It should go in that little bin so that everybody using that toilet can see and smell the beauty of your wipings...
@kuroichan10110 жыл бұрын

omg i totally agree with you on the spoons in restaurants when i went to all the restaurants, they were self served and i was like WTF the whole time.. yep lol and once when i had to go out to eat with my dads friends, dang they were just sorta ignorant?? they thought i would look mixed because my dad moved to the americas but come on there are lots of koreans in america too... so yeah lol also they were the same group of friends from elementary school so it was cool. like woah in america, its usually have friends in grade years and then loose them all and make new friends when you go to college.. so yeah it was interesting. and like the whole feeling unsafe ... i lived in america my whole life so whenever i had my phone or purse or money out i would be so cautious but now i think about it, its true what you guys said. && lmfao the chicken necks. but honestly bumping into people in korea is like bumping into air... not the force i mean but the fact that nobody cares and are so busy to say sorry - -;; so i felt stupid going around saying sorry to everyone i bumped into LOL ANDD THE DRESSING UP IN KOREA. despite the fact i was there for just a week and i had to deal with the jetlags... i felt so stupid wearing my clothes...like every other girls would be dressed up just to go to the grocery store and im just like meep hi. im from `merica. and likeyeah when i was in the train subway place, it was really awkward beasue i would be dressed up poorly in front of really good looking korean oppas and then there would be a really pretty and well dressed korean girl who was sitting next to me - -; so yeah.... and the whole week i think i felt really embarrassed? sad? idk but not because i missed america but because of the plethora(lolmyvocab) amount of couples i saw everywhere. TT so yeah. korea...i think korea would be a fun place to have a vacation at and i think its a fun party country?? LOL but living in korea is sorta mostly a big no for me now.. i think i'm too used to how america is like and i like how everything is in america... (although i am korean and have been saying since i was a baby that i wanted to live in korea when i grow up, i dont want to anymore LOLL) i'll go to korea once in a while just to meet up with friends who do decide to move there and maybe have like a 21st birthday party there at hongdae LOL but yeah other than that i dont want to live in korea :P

danger radar - i can relate: i lived in denmark for a turn & was amazed at not just how clean it was but also how safe it was compared to back home the USA. lost items were returned to people often. if friends left something valuable in a cafe, for example, it would still be there when they went back for it. so they didn't worry too much. i could walk home @ 3am & never had to worry about anything. i was always cautious, sure but eventually, a lot more relaxed..i also loved how someone in the countryside could leave out a fruit or vegetable cart & people would leave money in a can or jar before taking what they needed. it was awesome!...but then very difficult & frustrating to have to readjust after returning home. :o(

YESSS!!! Hahaha the food will taste much saltier when you go abroad again, and I know the reason why!Korean meals always include some type of soup, which is actually where we intake a big portion of the salt that our bodies need. That is why the rest of the meal doesn't need to have as much salt.But since meals abroad do not include soup, all of the salt intake is concentrated in the main meal, hence tasting very salty for Koreanized people!(Very much appreciate the wonderful videos you guys do!)

I totally understand what you mean about the "masculine" thing! I've never been to Korea, but just from liking K-pop and watching variety shows and other youtube videos, both my judgement of what is masculine and feminine has changed and what is "gay" has changed. This video was so interesting!

You are so right! Boys Over Flowers really changed my views and look on what masculine is in Korea. And I also first thought that the guy character was a girl until I looked at him more lol. As a gay guy myself, before I didn't find him attractive because he was too skinny and had long hair. Lee Min Ho's body was more of my type lol. But than after watching more Korean dramas, even skinny guys with long hair has become more attractive for me now. For example, the leading guy on "The Greatest Marriage", I immediately thought he was going to play a gay role, but surprised me he played a playboy! Interesting video and happy anniversary! :) I miss Simon with a beard, don't know why lol.

Omg this is really cool! But...I find so interesting the way you two talk about North America when it comes to safety, especially Canada (since it's so different from the US in this aspect). I'm brazilian but, when I was 4-5 years old (2003-2004), my dad was transfered to Canada due to his job. We were so damn surprised with the safety!!! Like, in Toronto you could just leave your bag on a table at restaraunt or something just to "mark the spot". We saw that at first and we were so shocked! Did Canada changed too much then since I leaved? Or is just that you guys are used to north american safety, while I had a huge cultural shock?

It's interesting. Some of the things you mentioned are things that have changed for me just by immersing myself in Korean and Japanese media in general. Dramas, anime, pop and whatnot. I don't think just watching stuff is any replacement for actually going there, but I do think that any prolonged exposure to another culture is eye opening.

If you check normal table salt, there are many additives that score your arteries, so it isn't suprising that it would hurt your throat if not used to it. You can find salt without the additives. If you do, you'll be able to eat a lot more sodium and not worry so much about cholesterol (which heals injured blood vessels and thereby clogs them).
