TL40-50 is a Trap in Honkai: Star Rail and with all of the recent "Everything you should do Before Level 40 in Honkai Star Rail" videos popping up, I can understand the confusion and worry about making a mistake in Star Rail. This video isn't telling you the biggest mistakes to avoid in between TL40-50, instead it's telling you what I did in order to not fall into the trap of TL40 grind. There's 100% a way to avoid what many of the players who rushed content mistakenly did.

The way i’m doing this from TL 40-50 is: Staying 100% away from relics, i’m not spending 40 stamina for one gold relic. I’ll do this when i’m TL 50+ Going for guaranteed upgrades such as leveling my light cones and characters alongside their traces Prefarming ascension mats but not traces. At TL 50+ you get a chance at purple and guaranteed blues per run. I’m spending all my energy on the cards to upgrade my characters and on credits, it will get expensive. I’m also prefarming for Jing Yuan

The best way to handle this is to actually think about what youre doing. If you have gepard, you max out his ult trace and leave everything else off. Then farm relics for him because his other traces dont improve him much. If its a damage dealer, level their skill and ultimate. Basically...think. Its a combination, dont just farm only relics or only traces.

I'd like to see more streamers remind players that those chests won't respawn. Those rewards that come in hot and heavy at hte beginning weeks of the game will disappear. Game like HSR (and Genshin) are about resource management when you come right down to it. You need to marshal your mats and spend wisely. Doesn't mean you've "ruined" an account, only that you might have to regroup to make up for misused time. (How I wish we'd get awesome rewards all the time!)

I would severly NOT recommend relic farming unless you are absolutely done getting all needed materials for traces and ascending for your characters, and tbh I'd still prefarm for future characters, until you're 50 then chase relics.

Yep, as others have said go for guaranteed upgrades always, then try your luck with fate. There is slight RNG in how many drops you get per encounter and whatnot, but you will always make progress upgrading traces and lightcones. You can do a whole day of farming relics and get basically nothing of value. Even using resin can cheat you with bad substats.

You forgot to mention assignments,under character materials you can select most of the universal lower materials to synthesize into the lvl 2 and 3 materials,its a great income to also farming freely for extra income while you get more from assignments

I knew people were exaggerating this. I mean, we've been doing this in other games like Genshin. We farm or pre-farm for the character we want for months or months in advance so it's nothing to worry about. I think people never really cared about it in Genshin because they have strong enough units to clear the domain or bosses for the required domain easily. Plus the game's been out for over 2 years so they have multiple units that can kill enemies with ease.

The simulated world boss drops relic exp material as well. You can do these 100 times a week (if you are crazy enough to f2p) to get max relic exp materials.

It's elite/boss, so technically you only need to run it like 34 times a week because each run has 2 elites and a boss.

I have usually stuck with going back to March 7 against harder stuff that hits big damage as she can make it easy to not take much damage. Clara and seele makes all content easy and now sushang is a good option she can put in some work for a 4 star

Players have to evaluate themselves what they need to farm for their accounts. A good rule of thumb is: char level > light cone level > traces > relic main stat > relic set effect > relic sub stat The first three are absolutely necessary and a priority for every team. As for relics, only replace and upgrade pieces as you need them. If someone is particularly not performing well, check and farm the right main stats. Need a bit more boost, scrap around for a set piece with the desired main stat. Chasing sub stats is definitely a big mistake below TL50.

Doing the daily farm can get you trace materials. I have gotten most of the mats just with luck during daily farm routes

Interesting, I just started this game like 3 weeks ago I'm already TL 42 all you mention as well as ways to efficiently use your "resin" are things I saw before I started to farm! Maybe it's because I come from Genshin Impact that I learned efficient ways to manage materials, farming and team comps. On the standard banner pity, is it better to pull on a character you don’t have, or increase a characters eidolon? I know it’s case by case depending on what you have, so I’ll let You know that I have Clara E0, Bronya E1, Bailu E0, and March 7th E1 as my main team. I have Natasha E6, Seele E0, and Tingyun E0 (no 4th yet) as my second team. Would it be better to pull a new 5 star to round out my 2nd team rather than say, getting Clara to E1? Any insight is appreciated.

Some have absolutely absurd E1 or E2. E.g. Seele E0 and E2 are really different characters, but the standard banner ones are less impressive. Not consuming a mark with Clara is really nice but she should be applying a new one every single time already so my take would be to pull Gepard for team 2 since Natasha heals are comparatively weaker or build mc fire and pray (also I would switch Bronya with Tingyun for 100% ult uptime on Clara since that's most of her damage and you get better Seele dps as a bonus)

I'd farm out his ascensions -> light cone -> traces up to Lv5 (maybe?) -> relics. However, if I was already planning to farm for my tank character (Gepard, March, Fire MC), then I would also technically be farming lightning relics for Jing. Two birds: one stone.

Relics always last. They're an RNG trap. Figure out what level you want Jing Yuan at, then what level of traces, where you want his light cone, and farm for those first.

While I agree that simulated universe is not easy, I disagree with your reason why those people who say it's easy can clear it. There's the thing called ability tree, and the more you play SU the more you can upgrade it, it gives a bunch of free stats to your team. Another thing is it's more about stacking the right blessings too, I can clear world 6 comfortably on auto without heavy investments thanks to the blessings.

I don't bother with planners. I've actually found that it makes it worse, lol. You learn so much just by playing that change your approach. My flexible go to is always to upgrade only as I need to with everything. For example; never got Bailu or Tingyun. Was upgrading two teams without them in mind. Recently got both out of some free tickets. Had I spent all my energy prefarming for those two teams I'd have never had the resources to pivot towards bringing Bailu and Tingyun into my roster. And DON'T WORRY about farming PERFECT numbers of an item. You can material exchange in the Synthesizer. Just because it isn't efficient exchange doesn't mean it isn't useful. It isn't meant to allow you to completely upgrade someone efficiently; it's meant to smooth out little roadblocks. Example: You need 7 of an item for someone. You only get 3 per run. Get 6 then look to synthesis the 7th from two other leftover materials you didn't use upgrading someone else. Saves you a whole run.

The simulated universe bar cam actually go to 7k (I've completed w6), you still only get 4 of the ornament redeem things, i imagine it'll go high as more of the levels are completed.. we'll see

I agree, one thing Genshin taught me is that rushing acc levels ends up feeling like shit later. I remember hitting level 50 and on god struggled doing my dailies. To this day I have not cleared out the abyss and my account is nowhere near as strong as it should be after 2 years. Thankfully I put all those lessons into HSR so for now just cruising much easier, outside of having bumped like 1 character to 50 I immediately changed my mind on haha.

I think I cleared the non-weekly abyss but then got like halfway up the reset one, because it was the time when the anti-shield guys were introduced. And Zhongli literally carried my account haha.

I never startet farming for 5* relic at 40. I first looked at the materials i need for the ascend, Level up and traces and did see i need alot of farming for that and started with it then and there. im now Trailblazer 46 and im not done with farming for only the 4 mainteam characters. So i will stay on the 4 in the mainteam will bring them to 80 and max everything first. and then i will slowly bring the rest up one by one.

One team will unfortunately not do much, forgotten hall and memory of chaos Are a large source of stellar jades, and holding out till level 80 to even start setting up for that seems inefficient. Play however u like ofc, but I reccomend getting 2 halfway decent teams firsy

Just gonna say this, I have very limited characters atm,(saving for Jingyuan) and it is possible to autoclear Simulated universe with mediocre builds on 4* characters, What matters the most is the path you choose and the cards you get, my favourite(and most successful) path for autoclearing SU is Destruction path, as it gives a nice amount of defence and offense.

You should probably be leveling Tingyun's basic attack. Her buff scales off of her own attack, so you should be building her almost purely attack. Her benediction buff can also only be cast on 1 unit at a time, so she will be doing basic attacks most of the time, and they are quite strong, due to all the attack you build on her

Her Basic ATK isn't what's increasing her ATK stat though. That's gonna from her actual ATK stat which I need some other gear for that, but yes. I do gotta level her up tho. You right about that. haha

You should be running simulated universe because you get relic upgrade material from elite monster. Plus sim universe is easy with the right path buffs like preservation or destruction. Specially destruction, i cleared world 6 with lvl 50 characters with +6 purple relics and decently leveled up traces and no 5 star

Would you played a rerolled account with Welt or Clara? I was going for the frosty boy and never pulled him. Welt is killing it right now as a early carry where Clara felt underwhelming. But in later game I think Clara might be better.

for an easier simulated universe clear go destruction path and choose destruction cards every chance you get, your people will get down to 50% then become gods. Even if you fail keep doing it because you still get ability tree points, and once you get to the halfway part or better you can usually autoclear anything if you follow the above. Except Kafka boss she needs abundance and debuff clearing.

imo farming relics in tl40-50 is a good option since you get 1 gold artifact guaranteed, however after tl50 the guaranteed drops for all the materials like boss mats and skill upgrades have a higher ceiling, like 4 for boss and 1blue for skill upgrades. hence taking your time to upgrade your characters in tl50 while staying away from relics until tl60 is a good path to take. in tl60 you get 2 guaranteed. its good to start off with strong built characters that can get you all the way from 50-60 with decent relics so you dont waste your resin farming them with the same rates as the previous difficulty

I hit TL 40 this Friday and then decided to try my luck with reroll (since I did all I could this account and I had bad luck of getting: Starting banner - Himeko on 50th, Limited banner - Seele on 81st, standard banner - Bronya's cone on 76th) With Saturday's reroll I got: starting banner first 10pull - Gepard and Bailu, standand first 10 pull - Welt, third 10 pull - Bailu's cone.... So now I grind all over again (TL22 right now), but I do not build more, than 4 units and 4 cones now. I was wasting exp on other heroes and was changing cones too much, so when I started to get TL30+ the lack of resources really slowed me down and forced me to spend energy on exp and not upgrading traces...

my insight on a good f2p team is always build one preservation preferably march since fire mc can be unlocked at a later story progress so until you do, use march (or gepard if you unlocked him early), one harmony preferably asta since she is a guarantee on the first warp, you can switch to tingyun if you want (or bronya if you have), and natasha cause unless you have bailu she is your only viable healer, especially early game where majority of your characters aren't built, and lastly any characters with element that are suitable for the enemy, like serval for thunder, dan shen or by chance sampo for wind, herta or miss pela for ice, and so on, I can't give an insight on light cones cause it's your choice on what you used for them, but PLEASE full trace the characters also to lessen the burden of what to grind, focus on a character built him or her

I'm currently at TL 42. Took 8 of my characters upto Lvl 60. Grinding the cones now and after that Traces, then at Equilibrium 4 I will do Lvl 70 then grind relics. It's a marathon after all. No need to rush anything. Even as f2p, i managed to pull Seele, Jing Yuan and his light cone and started saving for Kafka. I'm good for now and enjoying the game.

I agree with everything except your take on simulated universe. For world 3-5 which is where the difficulty starts, just run remembrance or abundance with Fire MC, Natasha, March 7th and any other unit you want (probably someone who is weakness matched) and you can auto all the way through, even if you are underleveled, its free asf lol. World 6 is where its difficult but even then, you can auto all the way to the boss if you run abundance with trailblazer fire, natasha, march 7th and anyone to break type weaknesses, then at the boss you only have to auto when bronya comes out or when the AI is dumb and wont heal with natasha unless you are below 50%.

Tho I know Jing is strong but I love Kafka so I don’t know if I will use him in the future. I disagree with this video entirely. relics should be the LAST thing you do. You can beat almost all of the content with purple relics. As long as your character is leveled and you have their light cones leveled you can beat all simulated universe worlds with the abundance path, preservation and even destruction paths. It is much better to go for guaranteed upgrades, like traces, level and equipment than gambling your trail blaze energy away on equipment that might be utter shit. This is true in genshin and it is also true here.

From what I experienced, trace materials are more important that relics. Also I don't think he understands that a % increase in stats from traces is a base increase and therefore makes the relic % increases stronger. I don't know why else he would just disregard that but I could be wrong.

I don’t disregard traces. I state that I would focus on them last. This is because of the return of investment on time. Relic farm can set you up now (because 10 levels of grinding is not quick), then after TL50 you can farm traces more reliably due to them dropping 5 million times easier. I’d rather a guaranteed gold relic drop than a low % at 1 blue trace material, when I need at least 15 of them per level up.

@@Iyoverse I agree that it’s better to do them when the drops rates are better, but I still rather have traces than prioritize gold relics. A base stat increase is guaranteed and scales the percentage based stats on your relics. Low percentage or not, you’ll get the materials. Gold relics are not reliable and you’re better off trying to get lucky from Echo of war and the 4 free simulated universe drops than waste 40 TP. Purple gear is good enough for now.

I managed to clear up to world 5(The one with kafka i finished it) with no an entirely maxed out lightcone or trace. I suggest trying different paths, because different paths give u different buffs that can help u clear. I mainly was able to clear because of The Hunt path tht gave me a lot spd and dmg which id neaaat

Since you can farm green mats easy, use them for those +5% etc stats if they only require green mats. If they go blue or higher, dealers choice. All those stats do matter in the long run. Otherwise you wouldnt be min maxing the characters you like.

also when farming artifact just stay with the 2nd best main stat pieces. Like, sure healing% or speed boot is better but if you already have full set with hp%/atk% then just use that. It's not the best but its good enough.

You can most definitely clear Simulated universe with E0 four star characters. That being said, It heavily depends on your blessing luck and which path you go. Most of the time, The hunt with 10+ blessings (allowing you to stack 2 of the unique path buffs) has gotten me through everything as long as your Tank/Healers are leveled to protect the team.

You can consistently clear simulated as f2p on auto (stage 3 difficulty 2 even) before equilibrium 4 and if you can't there's nothing wrong with it.

@@johnd7760 traces are like at lvl 3 for most, I didn't like hook at first, but she grew on me. Really helpful in world 6. My Himeko also got benched but I'll probably go back to building her. Asta is also an option, she can be kind of a dps plus she's an excellent breaker and support.

I wouldn't say trap, even at TL 50 the farming doest get any better. The best advice you could really give is just using fuel smarty instead of rushing TB levels, a lot of people in the community are hitting walls and 9/10 it's because they completely ignored relics as a whole. To each is there own but just about every other video has been " Do not farm until TB level X"

when you hit a dead spot in waiting for content for all gatcha games, you (1) just prefarm (for existing characters your are currently building or future characters you plan to pull for) or build other characters you already have and (2) never let your energy hit max because then you're just missing out on mats (materials). login do your daily quest, waste ur energy (farm relics or farm mats does not matter how), and do simulated universe for the relics there and for the weekly rewards ez

Prefarming, while smart, is tricky, since on your next eq you'll get better rewards. But for relics, you'll really need all the fodder you can get, considering you won't waste goldens to salvage em after (if u want)

there are no need to lvl traces past lvl 4 when you are TL 40, just go for the light cones, at TL 50 you can start working for lvl6 traces

I can auto simulated universe, I don't have 12 + 5*s and I don't have everything at +12. But what I do have is 4* artefacts at +6-+9 And a high lv in simulated universe tree. Also I've played it a lot so i know what happens. I do have a 5* light cone, the Healer one, but I can also do it with full 4*s I am able to auto clear with close to E0 4*s, it doesn't matter if my 4*s are E0 or not. My team is simply: Fire MC, Natasha, Asta, and Selee/Yanqing/Dan/Serval/Sushang - for world 6. But last week, I struggled to clear it, and after 6 days I was able to auto it. And yes, even F2p players have E levels on their characters. Also as a f2p, I pulled Seele in my 80th or so pull on the banner. And I got on my 80th pull on the standard banner just a healing lightcone, like the worst one of the 5* light cones, not even a 5* character. If you farm those points a little, it starts getting easier, you just need like lv 55-56 characters. Edit: I was able to manual world 6 first with lower level and lower geared characters btw, but to auto it, I needed to at least +6 or +9 my gear. As for what path I ended up auto-ing with is...... destruction. I was thinking that path was awful, but it was only awful because I didn't use a healer with it. Destruction => makes your team survive when lower on hp. Healer => makes sure you team doesn't stay on low hp for a long time => auto powers. Yes, I can't auto it yet without healers. And yes, I've tried ^^' But my world 6 tree at this point is like 4-5 upgrades away from being maxed out

You want your Simulated World ability tree maxed out, when you hit TL 50. You can kill around 100 elites/bosses a week for free credits and upgrade materials. If you’re waiting, you’re going to be very far behind and maybe too weak to deal with TL 50 difficulty 2 on w3-w6. There are ability points in the tree which unlocks you to be able to be so strong you can auto it. So your last point was wrong, the people who can auto clear it simply had their SU ability tree at a point where they had unlocked most of path and stats potential.

I did the daily farm for a week straight, and i confidently can say that any f2p players can easily do like 7-10 days of this and they'll be completely fine for a long time. It's nice to have them stocked up but doing this every single day is probably too much. Of course you lose the daily experience, but if you don't have time/patience for this getting burned out just because of exp is something way too silly. :p

The only issue with the Stagnant Shadow before you say rank 50 you only get 3 drops so it takes 7 runs to pre-farm but from 50 onwards you get 4 so it only takes 5 runs. So you are wasting 60 Trailblaze power for each char, I'd recommend only doing your main but I waited for level 50 to farm any.

Simulated Universe is not hard if you play it right! Use proper path depending on your characters and abilities of the boss, make the resonance of the path as strong as possible and it will do half of the job for you, if not more. Stack as many cards of the chosen path and you'll see magic. I'm F2P and I've cleared every world on auto with various paths, Preservation and Abundance for example can litarally make you immortal.

I never plan anything in genshin impact. And Im probably do the same with HSR. I'll just gonna use up all the Item anyway. If I see character that I want to level up and I have the materials for it (because I planned it initially for someone else), I kept thinking that I should use that. So. The thing that I want to grind at first in this game are money (credit), books for exp and weapon exp. Once I have lots of 'em, I can start focus on building random character that I want
