Modems are how EVERYBODY accesses the internet and THAT capability primarily defined what was called a smartphone. I moved on to an Audiovox SMT5600, which was the cutest most compact smartphone ever AND their release date preceeded 2007, around 2004. Also when I search for that phone there were plenty more companies and styles of smartphone in the game even then. When I got tired of looking at those small screens on the so-called smartphones I moved on to the Samsung Q1 UMPC which came out in 2005 and would be your predecessor to what we now know as tablets (because they also had the capability of accessing the internet with their built in modem, also had a SIM CARD just like a cell phone and be used with any carrier like T-Mobile or AT&T). They could technically be considered a "SMART"phone as well. I know I sure used my Samsung Q1 as a phone AND still use my current tablets HP Stream and Galaxy Tab 3 as a phone now! ANY device with a SIM CARD and modem can be a smartphone. I have a video on my channel teaching people exactly HOW you CAN do that. So I don't know where you got your facts from but they sure aren't from REAL life and probably an assumption on your part. You are talking to a chick who been in the technology game both professional and personally for over 3 decades. So yeah I can SAFELY say TLC was NOT tech savvy and in fact very cheap still using a flip phone in 2005. Just because the phrase "smartphone" wasn't coined or adopted by the masses until around 2007 (which even that I question) doesn't mean they were not out. Simply put. . .TLC with the money they had in 2005 was late and tired rockin' a flip phone that late in the game.
