The physical acne scars have nothing to do with autism, but Mitchell volunteered that he feels the autism does make him more socially awkward. The acne scars do too. The medical treatment doesn’t mitigate autism, but the treatment will reduce another source of social anxiety. Reducing stress is a good thing and we can see how much happier he is after 2 treatments.

Some autistic folks are very sensitive to touch, sound and noise, light, and other sensory factors. Dr Emma kept Mitchell in the loop as to treatmen stimuli. Good on Mitchel and his Mom!

For those wondering if the autism would be relevant, yes it would but not to the Acne, the lovely young man could have light, noise sensitivity. Also a variety of skin super sensitivity issues and react to the chemicals a lot. The Doc did amazingly informing him, building rapport, reassurance and monitoring him - he could, but did not, have had a meltdown due to the stress and lept off the table, that's where the Autism awareness becomes and intimate part of the treatment plan. Yes it does really need to be in the title. A physically big young man potentially having a meltdown means he needs to trust you and you need to be a flipping awesome doctor...

Dumb question - why could the scars not just be excised?
@strawberrysoymilkshake8 ай бұрын
Basically hypertrophic and keloid scars are created by trauma such as wounds. Cutting them off would only create more wounds, and more of the same scars. It's a vicious cycle.
