Oh my goodness! I can't imagine how worried/anxious her mommy was. That is scary for something to grow to that size in only 6 months time. I'm so happy Starla is well and on the mend. What a little angel.

I love they way she asked the girl about consent to lifting her shirt and touching her belly. Even though she is a doctor and it’s necessary to look at it and touch it it’s SO important to teach kids bodily autonomy and consent from early on ❤

Dr. Emma's empathy for her patients, translates into real therapeutic power for them. Her skill and medical detachment is firmly in place, but the "human touch" is just as vital. Especially when dealing with children. I've noticed how important this is, with skin and other visible issues that people struggle with. Being cold and clinical may be ok for some specialties, but definitely not dermatology.

If you find a lump on your child, go for a medical consultation. As a CRNA, parent I know how we are anxious about our children. Having said that, children pick up the parents worry. The more outwardly anxious a parent is, the more the child will be. Do your worries out of sight from your child. When parents are calm in appearance and hand their child over to me, the easier everything is for the child and the team. Nobody wants a traumatic experience for them.

@@ozgal6929not one that large and not one on the stomach. 14 centimeters is very large. That’s about the size of a grapefruit. I had one that same size on my shoulder/upper chest area. The surgeon had to make the incision bigger because it wouldn’t come out of a smaller one. On the stomach they had make it bigger so they could make sure they avoided major arteries and organs.

I don't know about the healthcare system in the UK but the mom said that its only been 6 months since she first noticed it. In the US at least where i live on the northeast coast it takes 3-6 months to get into any sort of specialist. So lets says she noticed the lump and she said she took her daughter to get an mri first (which she said she did). She might be able to get in with her daughters primary within a few weeks but it could take 3 months for her to get that MRI appointment and then another 3 to get the appointment with the dermatologist and then could take another 3 to get in to get the surgery. So you really shouldn't judge too much with that info. Ive gone through health issues before and from the time i started having the problem to the time i had surgury for it was about a year and that wasn't by my own choice.
