This is debatable as it depends on the given situation. I separated/divorced my kids father and remained in the same area so they could still engage in a relationship as they were very young. I pushed for their father to call , allowed him to stay over on special occasions, and drove them to meet up but it was very scattered on his side. He promised he would do better and cried tears claiming his love but would have no contact for months/years. Spring forward 14 years later and my kids are fed up with the lack of involvement and I realized I couldn’t create the relationship it was on my kids father to show his intent and follow through on being a caring parent. I realized I am not the glue to hold the relationship together as it only caused deep sorrow for my kids when promises would go unfulfilled. All I can do is be the parent they need me to be and provide unconditional love. Thankful for therapy.

You can tell in some of the last episodes that his son was upset because he didn’t hear from him. He clearly mentioned in one of the episodes that his dad was not contacting him at all. I guarantee you that played on his psyche and that had a part in why he committed suicide.
