Instead of paying £500,000 for a luxury flat, affordable housing let’s you pay just £400,000 for a rabbit hutch.
@bigdundee123454 жыл бұрын
Thats not what affordable housing means, they are essentially council houses. The developer has a number of choices how to distribute them. Either build a few and donate them to a housing association or build twice as many and get paid cost amounts for them. It is a huge burden on the developer as they will get no profit out 35-50% of the scheme or lose millions by giving them up to a housing association completely free. It also affects the sales of the ones they sell on the open market. Trying to sell a property next door to a council tenant on benefits reduces the amount u can sell it for. This is why they invented alternative entrances to apartments for council tenants, nicknamed “poor doors”. Usually hidden round the back. Council tenants usually have children with no fathers in their lives, this leads to them being antisocial. They would urinate in lifts, graffiti everywhere, play loud music, smoke week, vandalise cars etc etc. Trying to sell a one million pound apartment next to such people is hard. So to answer your comment, the donated properties are given for free to council tenants. If you have seen any for sale, these are not “affordable homes” its just a nice name given to council houses. How do i know? Im a construction developer, a director, i deal with affordable housing all the time. I was also involved in the sillwood estate development in south east london, building hundreds of homes, all of which are affordable.

This happens again and again, and there's a reason for it. You see, these kind of shady financial deals are simultaneously really important to uncover - and top marks to whoever dug this up - but also, they are quite technical, they are obscure and boring by design as that is the best way for the perpetrator to keep them hidden. But that same boringness means that, even when corruption is unearthed, most people just don't understand exactly what has happened. If something is both technical and dull, most people will lose interest before they realise the gravity of the situation. Thinkers have long criticised "bread and circuses" - the shallow, meaningless things that prevent people from thinking about the things that really need to be thought about. This is the opposite of that - something important but boring, so people pay less attention to it than it deserves. As far as I am aware there isn't a word for this - anyone care to invent one?

As a home owner who sacrificed myself in order to become one, I would be most angry if I had social housing in the same new estate or building, with the same features up to the same standards that I have been suffering to afford. I had to work hard and save for a deposit, I had to discard lovely houses to make sure that I was able to afford payments, repairs and maintenance, I acted responsibly. If the guy next door is paying silly social rent that I help to pay, has the same house and does not contribute to society even being able to work, I would go mad. Yes, I will not apologise for believing that tax payers deserve to live better than those who don't contribute, and that situation should only last until they find work, doing their best to get one. We all might need help now and then, but it cannot go on for generations. Of course Government have to give people opportunities, but people have to take them and if I have to move to find job, I expect others to do the same. London is expensive and the worst thing has been the sale of social housing to renters who immediately sold them to market prices. We tax payers paid for those houses. Shame!
