In 20-30 years India’s infer structure should be in a far better situation and will become an alternative market for agricultural products and mined goods. Definitely possible to reduce reliance on China and CANZUK will get us better trade deals with the US, India and EU.

There have been plenty of audio mishaps throughout their videos. I often notice that they’ll leave in a bad take and redo it but don’t cut it properly. Worth noting: Aus + NZ already have most of these trade deals in place via various treaties. We have freedom of movement with a few exceptions (Aus can reject us if we have a criminal record). A lawyer qualified in NZ can practice in Aus. Various others.

@Carl Stone The British car industry was in decline from the 1960s, Thatcher had faults but this certainly wasnt on her. As previously stated, poor management and poor union leadership and constant strikr action were key. Anything else is just revisionist history. Some poor decisions from British Leyland didnt help, too many mergers, producing cars which main competition were also from BL, not expanding their export market (although this option was harmed by the poor build quality and reputation damage during the 1970s).

Australia doesn't want freedom of movement. We already rejected it - it would negatively impact us as will Britain bullying us to fuck us over agriculture which is why we have nothing close to a deal yet. We already have Free Trade Agreements with CA and NZ. We've been trading with Britain the entire time already even when they were in the EU. We're quite capable of negotiating a separate trade deal, plus Britain recently applied to join the CPTPP trade bloc too (the thing AU, NZ and CA are already in) and what actually goes through the mind of someone that thinks directly challenging and excluding the US is a good idea here? You know, the US - far more important to us economically and militarily than Britain could ever be, as they've stuck by us for 70 years under ANZUS, even under Trump, they're deeply entrenched in the Asia Pacific with their military bases and they're the largest military on earth and you want to tell them to fuck off and deliberately exclude them for a racist... oh I'm sorry what else do I mean. The main benefit in CANZUK is in acting as a economic and security block in an increasingly volatile word. CANZUK would have a population of 140 million, a GDP of 6.3 trillion USD and 18 million km² of land - certainly a force to be reckoned with.

@@mattia8327 You are correct, CANZUK would still be smaller than the USA, China & the EU but CANZUK would be 4th in economic weight after those 3, at about 1/3 the size of the US or China and 1/2 the EU, I'd hardly call CANZUK irrelevant or a rounding error. Don't forget CANZUK has also excellent economic and military relations with both the USA & the EU, not to mention several of the next most important countries in the world including Japan, India, South Korea, Brazil and Mexico.

@@rebbiakiva A more significant factor would be that they are well geographically positioned to facilitate worldwide international trade to and from the three larger powers. The US has become less and less willing to continue to expend money and resources on mainraining their large navy, which has helped to maintained a secure shipping nerwork for international trade for decades. Theoretically, CANZUK could take on that responsibility. Even further to this, they could even provide regional collection and distribution hubs based in their respective nations of those Regions. Essentially this would also allow a means of facilitating mutually equitable trade between nations that would otherwise not be able to do so.

Quebecois French is different from French French just like Austrian or Swiss German is different from German German. Interestingly, Quebecois French is in some ways more pure. I once had a Parisian scornfully tell me that the Quebecois used "le stationnement" for "parking lot" instead of the correct "le parking".

Trade deals are complex and involve concessions and giving countries preferential access. Is it worth it for insignificant trading partners? The time and energy/concessions would be much more worthwhile spent with countries for which significant trade flow is a reality.

@@jasonwarner8219 yes, they are only insignificant at the moment due to decades of trade barriers caused by Britain’s EU membership. Prior to entry into the EEC most of Britain’s trade was with commonwealth nations. Now the UK is out of the EU it can return to such level.

Canadian here. The whole CANZUK project is the brainchild of some far right think-tanks and is supported by the major right-wing party in each nation. While the vague notion of closer ties is broadly popular in all 4 countries (we've got a lot of history together), none of the three former colonies has any interest whatsoever in giving up their sovereignty (and the British right seems awfully fond of reminiscing about the Empire... the rest of us don't). Because it's exclusively a fairly far right plan, it will end up becoming a political issue opposed by other political parties (and in Canada, the Tories are NOT the default governing party... 60% of Canadians hate them and 70% won't vote for them unless they're angry at the centrist Liberal party). Basically, the centre and left in these various countries will rip the teeth out of any CANZUK proposal that goes too far. It will get painted as a racist, historically regressive project if pushed too far. As an alliance and possibly as a free movement zone, it might be viable. As a free trade zone, it's pretty redundant. The three non-UK countries already have a free trade deal via the CPTPP and the UK is looking into joining that trade deal. Basically the UK's mostly a cultural and military partner for the other Commonwealth realms in this idea. We're allies. The real appeal of it is creating a second tier large block of roughly equal partners (the rest can counterbalance the UK) rather than being stuck in American orbit (when the US isn't terribly stable). And if you are wondering about Quebec, l'idée d'une alliance plus proche est populaire même chez nous (environs 65% en faveur au Québec) mais bien sûr seulement si on contrôle les affairs culturelles et linguistiques chez nous. On aime bien les australiens, néo-zélandais et même les britanniques (malgrés nos pépins envers leurs ancêtres et l'empire, on n'a rien contre les britanniques d'aujourd'hui et on a plus en commun culturellement que l'on admet). On est habitué d'être entouré d'une mer anglophone et comme les autres canadiens, on cherche quelque chose pour balancer dans une autre direction que les américains. All that said, it is a completely impractical free trade zone (and would overlap existing free trade). None of the three other nations would buy into British Empire part 2 and each would insist on equal status. If the UK can't even manage to keep Scotland and Wales happy in a union together, it's folly to assume they could keep three nations whose national identity is rooted in having broken off from the UK in any strong union. As a military alliance alongside NATO, yeah, lots of potential there. Free movement... iffy... very different immigration rules in these four countries.

And with India’s gdp per capita being $2,000 and CANZUK’s gdp per capita being 47,000. There would be crazy amounts of immigration. Jamaica also has the same problem but to a much lesser extent, because there population is much smaller than India’s. And Ireland is already in the EU. Which means we’d all have to follow the same regulations as the EU for it to work (we don’t want to do that) I would be fine with the Caribbean islands joining tho, but I don’t think they would be happy about it. Most skilled workers would just leave and they’d suffer with brain drain and there native population being displaced, maybe even making them the minority in there own country. There’s just no other country within the commonwealth apart from these 4 that we could start a close union with.

I can’t see how UK farmers can compete against Australia’s industrial scale farming. In the meat industry, even the US is pressed. Brit farmers might harvest scores of acreage; In Oz, it might thousands of acres, with large scale machine harvesting. Huge economies of scale in Australia’s favour. Though, New Zealand survives OK, with Agriculture but it is beholden to China, as China China has planned. Vassals via the Brick and Road Initiative. Australia’s economy is less exposed, because Agriculture represents 3% of GDP. But, farmers vote, and have their own regional party in coalition with fellow conservatives. In the Asia Pacific Century, the UK would be an odd fit. Although, Australia and the UK have just signed a FTA. Excluding China, and with the US rejoining, the Trans Pacific Partnership would represent 40% of World GDP. I do agree with the free movement of people, owing to a common language and heritage, except French Canadians might not agree. Tourism and transnational employment opportunities, great.

it's a fantasy & will never happen. Even in globalised world, trade is geographical. For UK's economy not to collapse it will have to rejoin the single market & customs union so it can trade with the rest of EEA/EU nations. Once it does this, UK wouldn't be able to create its own new trade deal. So unless the entire EU also agree to freedom of movement with CANZUK but that looks unlikely. But would be cool nonetheless

Agreed, and I'd up the ante from logistical challenge to logistical nightmare/fairytale. Canada and Australia are exporters of raw resources, minerals and oil/gas, with much, much closer and established markets for these goods that are very expensive to transport long distances. Canada -> US, Australia -> Pacific Rim countries, and the UK isn't a high-precision manufacturing country like the US, Germany or Japan anyways, so why would they even buy massive amounts of raw resources anyways even if Australia, Canada, and New Zealand were all in the North Sea?? Canadian here. Definitely a fan of CANZUK and have always wanted to travel/potentially live in these countries because of our shared but distinct cultures and outlooks. Obviously, it would be best to turn into this slowly by trying to amp up trade first especially. With China on the rise, it only seems advantageous to keep our allies close and although we Canadians have felt some of the heat from them, I know Australia and New Zealand has it even worse. Although the distance is larger than normal, I believe that Canada can implement a new trade system to help mind the gap between Australia, New Zealand and the UK, as to help make trade more viable. Definitely would like to see where this goes. I also miss the Jack. I still wave both flags.

My view, as an Australian, is towards further building the TPP, again with the US. The future is in the Asia Pacific. The TPP could negotiate collectively with the EU. The UK is not required.

The uk went for brexit in a lot of ways to block people coming into the country. It's ironic then that British people don't think Canada, Australia or New Zealand don't want random wasters from the uk. Of course you can live in work in these countries anyways today if you have an in demand job. But I just wanted to highlight the hypocrisy that UK people have. It's absolutely unreal. I grew up in UK, we would eat New Zealand Lamb and Australian Beef. The advantage Australia and New Zealand have is they both can feed out their animals all year round, that means they can kill, butcher and ship to the other side of the world and still land it cheaper. European countries had to feed their animals on hay and keep them in barns for 2 months a year. When UK Joined the EU the cost of living went up considerably. There was a lot of complaining among the UK population.

As a ex SouthAfrican now liveing in NZ. I can absolutely see why NZ would be included and SA not. The culture is drastically diffrant the views of life goals and loyalties are diffrant. It is not a race thing its a cultural one. NZ and britain is unlikely to ever seriously dissagree on any major international topic's. SA and britain would likely not last long before they disagree on something and end up diminishing the value of the entire block. This deal would likely be less economical in nature and more of an alliance with common goals and combined negotiation and military power aswell as one of conviniance. Its less of a deal born out of big gains and more a deal that makes sense due to haveing essentially no downsides.

To draw comparisons between the UK government and apartheid in South Africa is ridiculous. The UK is one of the most multicultural countries in the world, but we are a very small country, and mass immigration has put immense pressure on our old towns and cities that were not built for such large numbers of people. People who voted to leave the EU aren't against immigration, we're against the quantity. There are financial inequalities that need to be addressed, but there is no apartheid here.

That may be a little unreliable because it was the CANZUK group themselves that came up with the analytics, it could have been a bit biased. Although, saying that, I have no qualms with the idea at all. It's not like there's even a downside if trade between the nations isn't as prevalent as one would hope because there'd still be free movement and military aid. What I do think is the case is that, going forward, it will only become easier to sustain large-scale trade across the globe with the advancement of technology. Kind of a future-proofed union.

For one, Canada and Australia already have FTA's with the US and NZ was going to be part of the now failed TPP agreement. It would be weird that Canada and Australia would give up their US FTA's for Canzuk. The reason the EU doesn't have FTA's with China, India and the US is exactly size, both sides have a good position regardless and will therefor not accept anything that is not good enough. Getting Canzuk together would make FTA's more difficult too, not only because they are larger and can (try to) demand more, but also the Canzuk nations don't all have the same priorities, thus they themselfs will have to find a good balance.

A trade deal doesn’t have to be an all encompassing FTA, it could mean lowering just a few tariffs, even in one small sector or apply to a handful of goods. Anything that increases trade would be good but it’s never going to replace trade with your neighbours, why should it, it should be about increasing over all trade.

There are few positives to Brexit regarding trade with Canada. The EU (including the UK) already had a trade agreement with Canada for a huge amount of goods and services (CETA). The UK had a better trading position within a Trade Bloc with 500m population vs 35m population. This is simple negotiations. Now it is 70m vs 35m. And wqwe have much less to offer now the UK is outside of trade lines. THERE IS NO LOVE FOR "EMPIRE" OUTSIDE OF RIGHT-WING CIRCLES.

@@melanieenmats If CANZUK would be racist, so is be the EU. To some people, it's a continuation of some Germans' dreams about "Einheit Europas" from the early 40s. Why is the EU regional? Why there are no plans to create an EU-African free trade area? Why didn't they admit Turkey while they still could? If I interpret this clearly, the goal CANZUK is not the substitute for the EU federal state, but some kind of close political alliance, clearly aimed at increasing the member's broader security against aggressive global powers like China and integrating such actions more closely with the US. As for "openness" to the World, UK will have the CPTPP, which by its nature is just unable be "racist" (another obviously overused term). I'm jealous of the UK, in my country (PL) my vote won't ever mean so much.

Plus we are one of the rare places in the world where climate change is making habitability gaining ground instead of losing it. With its vast freshwater reserves, unexploited natural resources, and immense landmass we are in a prime position to receive a lot of population from the climate exodus. Plus most countries kinda tolerate or like us so we are in a good spot in therm of diplomatic power. Our only real weaknesses are our relatively low and aging population and still low automation in industries.

From Australia's perspective, it would make sense for us to urgently liberalise and expand trade with as many countries as possible, particularly those in south and east Asia. We're in a very uncomfortable position where our largest trading partner (by far) is waging a trade war against us. I have nothing against CANZUK, but it will in no way compensate for lost trade with China and to think otherwise is delusion.

On the Canadian side we are not even aware of this project. xD For us, Brexit or not does not change much. The UK will try to enter into partnerships with as many countries they can to avoid suffering too much from immediate consequences of their mistake with the EU. For the Canada, this will not change anything: our main partner and from very, very far is the United States (and under the Biden administration we can expect a growing relationship between us). Even Mexico is more important as a partner than the UK. For the two others countries they have to deal with the great distance. The better for them would have been to trade with EU, ironically. Perhaps, with luck, Brasil and USA will try to find a way to help the tea drinkers. x)

They still have the same head of state ie HM Queen Elizabeth II and their military technically still swear allegiance to this head of state.
