Thank you very much for this vid. I got my first T about a month ago. A T. Albopilosus and I have been looking for information about the premolt. She ate like mad the first three weeks. Her abdomen was was on the smaller side, however it grew to "normal" size, and now she is in her burrow most of the time and refuses food. I'm thinking she´s in premolt. Guess it can take a while. Always nervous as I´m new to the hobby. I should ad that she is a juvenile that I took over from her previous owner.

For adults I keep a large dubia roach colony, I keep them in a large dark plastic container with plenty of cross ventilation and egg boxes to hide in, I feed them on bug grub and vegetables and bug gel for hydration. My ts do well on one adult dubia a week

Hi Robbie. Is it wise to keep a juvenile on a more moist substrate like a spiderling
@robbiestalkingts3 жыл бұрын
Hello mate I'd advise over filling the water dish every now and then and if it gravitates towards the moist spot then there's no harm, if it avoids it then it's happy in a dryer environment

I've just brought one and it's a tiny little thing, 2 - 3cm and it's just hidden itself away and hasn't come out at all. I'm assuming it's in premolt but I am slightly worried about it.

@robbiestalkingts8 ай бұрын
Tbh back in the day when I first started my vision was to make videos like a TV series with an introduction that everyone knew what series it was from, I soon learned its not good for retention and why all my newer content jumps straight into it. KZbin is a harder learning curve than the hobby. I have a much better albopilosus video in the documentary section on the channel. Appreciate you sticking through the pointless intro though 👌

how often do u clean the enclosure (if that's wot needs doing)

I pick out left over food and clean up poop once a week or when it needs it, substrate I never change. As with this species they like substrate dry, mould is not an issue.

I have a juvenile curly hair and she molted in july and i moved her to a 10 gal tank and for the last couple months she wont eat and im not sure why, she has a tiny bald spot on her abdomen but i dont think shes in premolt her abdomen isnt black it still normal color. Any ideas
@robbiestalkingts Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't worry my female (featured in the video) has gone 9 months without eating its normal. The bald spot is probably where she has been kicking hairs around the new setup as protection from would be predators. It also could be premolt again it takes a long time for the pink colour to turn black, it's all absolutely normal. So don't panic. She will eat again or molt when she's ready 😊

This is just a question. Do tarantula owners ever cross breed tarantulas? Like a curly hair and mexican red leg and get something different?
@robbiestalkingts3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately it does happen but its very very detrimental to the hobby and to the spiders themselves. The main example I can give is tliltocatl albopilosus hobby form which is believed to be a hybrid between tliltocatl albopilosus (Nicaraguan) and tliltocatl vagans. And sadly due to hybridization that's the reason why a lot of species in the hobby are in abundance but in the wild virtually extinct. Certain species blood lines are so tainted that Unfortunately no matter how many we have in the hobby we couldn't release back into the wild as they are not guaranteed pure breed. So in essence we wouldn't be releasing the same animal into its natural habitat (I hope that makes sense) plus there are reports of hybridization causing health issues to some species which is yet to be truly investigated.

How deep should the substrate be?
@robbiestalkingts2 жыл бұрын
These have been known to burrow I like to have my enclosure for brachypelma like a slope with 5-6 inches of substrate at the back sloping into lower at the front. But if that's not possible an even 5-6 inches all round

@toocold89853 жыл бұрын
It’s a lair which is neat but with no opening it’s abit odd
@robbiestalkingts3 жыл бұрын
Tarantulas dig a burrow and close it off normally when they enter premolt they close off the entrance to protect themselves from predators. Because once they actually molt they are so fragile they can't protect themselves. Secondly some just like to shut themselves away for a while. It will come out when it's ready, don't attempt to feed or poke food into the burrow, just let it do its thing. Just make sure the water dish is full and it will be absolutely fine and come out again once it's ready to do so 😊 hope that is helpful
@toocold89853 жыл бұрын
@@robbiestalkingts omg I was thinking a possible premolt just wasn’t sure if he had room down there to do that in . Most I’ve seen do it out in open after they lay a bed or web and hairs . But yes the info u gave me helped me a lot ... tysm
@robbiestalkingts3 жыл бұрын
Well the room isn't an issue, tarantulas feel the most safe in very enclosed spaces, and you are right a lot of species are happy to molt out in the open and do so frequently. It all depends on the specimen and where it feels safe.
@kingkato213 жыл бұрын
During the summer my apartment can get as high has 100° F. I've seen that Tarantulas can live in temps up to as high as 110° how do I protect one on a warmer day or week?
@robbiestalkingts3 жыл бұрын
Give them enough substrate to burrow, the temperature inside a burrow will be far far less than the "outside" temperature, also if you have a fan in the room it can help just don't have it directly on the enclosure
