Tom is always humble. I understood the money comments and living check to check were about the people back home hating on him andcalling him a liar. I think this song was about confronting all the awful lies told about him and also explaining why he won't respond to a diss. He's grown as an artist and as a man and I respect him and his honesty. Upchurch tried everything he could do to get his name to come out of Tom's mouth in hopes of gaining some coat-tails clout off of Tom, and Tom just shoved him into a bucket with all of the other unnamed haters and then nuked the whole bucket with this song. Letting someone know they're irrelevant without speaking their name is the ultimate form of dissing them.

Having a long time friend who WAS employed with a major label, until recently...... She personally told me about the panic and chaos with the executives pertaining to Tom. Upper level executives have been literally fired due to falling short on persuading Tom to sign a contract, or even put together a package that equals or surpasses what Tom is able to do with his small team "using" another already signed artist. They are in desperation for being unable to sign "money making" new talent is a very probable reality. As far as the "money" mentioned in this track...... Never will you hear of Tom, or anyone in his team belittle or criticize struggling people. He was directly addressing some direct statements made by certain "jealous" people in the music industry. Other artists and / or management. And if you think this new track Tom just released is good, brother, out your seatbelt on. He's got something up his sleeve that REALLY going to change the game.

The rapper Mac Lethal was posting crap about Tom. They had a back and forth, and Mac Lethal backpedaled and said he wasn't talking about him. Then, he went on to talk about how he was superior to Tom. Tom asked HOG if he should diss him, lol. So Tom was clowning around and basically ended up stomping the guy. Then HOG went hard at him, and he ended up bringing down his YT channel. Tom still feels terrible about that.

@424stormygirl It depends how you define “a few,” I guess. He’s done it several times. I’d say many times. Just off the top of my head… Don’t Look Down, Naked; No Response; I’m Sorry; D.R.U.G., I Hate Hip Hop; Everybody Hates Me; Fire Emojis (hundred fifty thousand 'round my neck); he even did it in Ghost (I've seen a hundred grand in cash…I’ve held diamonds in my hands); the Mac Lethal disses of course; and now God Mode. He’s done it in several other songs too ( in addition to these). I love Tom but for me, and the way I grew up, it’s just kind of embarrassing - I can’t help it, that’s just me reaction. He also contradicts himself on various topics - for example, in Canceled he says to get the Gucci out of his closet because it’s for kids.Then in I Don’t Care he says, See this Gucci? Yeah I bought it - but at least he’s making a point with that line. You could say he’s making a point every time he brags about his wealth & I guess that’s true, but in most cases the point isn’t very deep & it’s getting old. I just find Tom to be someone who thinks deeply & is extremely skilled at delivery important messages, and in my opinion the wealth bragging makes him seem less evolved as a person. Almost like he’s had tremendous personal development, but in this one area he’s still pretty petty & immature. Just being honest. No hate. Only love & honesty.

TLoose, you missed the context of what Tom was saying with his "check-to-check" statement. If you pay attention to what he said in the beginning of that verse, he's aiming both barrels directly at jealous haters in his home-town in Canada who've been hating on him since he moved to the US and made something of himself. "I came out a city (in Canada) where I still don't get no respect. I moved away (to the US), and I blew up, and everyone else is still stuck in the town (in Canada) that I left, I'm not impressed. And they been sayin' my video views are all fake, and I honestly hope it helps get 'em some rest. I'm worth like 30 million mother fuckin' dollars, all you bums are livin' check-to-check." When you missed the context of who he was specifically addressing in that verse, you made the mistake of thinking that he was including his working-class fans who love and support him. Tom loves his fans, and loves working-class people because that was what he was in his past. His message to working-class people in many of his songs is that they already have the work-ethic they need to achieve their dreams, and he encourages them to use that work-ethic to make their dreams come true like he has. What he doesn't put up with is jealous-haters, and especially ones who use "I'm a victim" excuses for not being able to improve their lives.
