I absolutely love how happy and excited Marisa Tomei is, sitting next to a Hollywood legend like Shirley Temple, and cheering and grinning with excitement as much as the audience is when Shirley gets her mention! Amazing moment, the look of delight on Marisa's face is wonderful!

This year was my favorite Oscar show and I haven't really watched a lot since. What I loved the most was the tribute to Shirley Temple by the audience. I wish I was there. Her contribution to the nation during the Great Depression can never be overstated.

I’m a gen y and I was not alive in 1998 but even I could see that Those were the days, nowadays the actors aren’t as legendary and the movies aren’t as good as nowadays people need CGI effects to be impressed with a movie. Sometimes it’s almost as if they don’t appreciate the story and the acting alone! That’s why nowadays the younger generation (excluding myself) are not watching the classics, which is a shame as they are missing out on a lot!

Vincent Winter passed away later that year, from a heart attack, two months shy of his 51st birthday. Like many child actors, he had difficulty making the transition to adult roles, so following his final film appearance as a teenager, he decided to work behind the camera. He worked as an assistant director, production manager, and unit manager in film on television in both the UK and America. RIP.

It was already recorded with the announcing so when you see Jack Nicholson they only announce his Oscar wins for Cuckoos Nest and Terms of Endearment and yet he just won for "As Good as it Gets" so that is why he is the only one actually holding an Oscar and of course he waves it at the camera. I’m totally sorry but I’m telling you the truth. Now Shirley Temple Black has won for Stand Up and Cheer but it has nothing to do with the Thalberg Award - despite its disturbed controversy with former independent producers/executives such as Ray Stark of Halcyon Studios.

She was something special...Luise Rainer and Harold Russell deserved a little extra love as well.

Interesting that for these Oscar reunions they mention a film associated with the non competitive juvenile Oscar winners. A total of 12 of these awards were given out from 1934 (Shirley Temple) to Hayley Mills (1960). But only 4 of them were given with a specific film performance mentioned. Temple was not one of those 4. The only participant in either reunion to receive this honorary award for a particular work was Vincent Winter. Winter's co-star Jon Whiteley, also winning for THE LITTLE KIDNAPPERS, Ivan Jandl in THE SEARCH and Hayley Mills in POLLYANNA are the four.

@Grundig80 Yes, of course, you're right - what was I thinking! She is the first to win back to back Oscars. Thanks for the correction.

How could they have overlooked Dorothy Malone “Written on The Wind”? Sad omission.

Jay: Remember, they didn't overlook anyone. The announcer said all Oscar winners were invited. These accepted. Many of these, though still alive five years later, did not participate in that reunion. It's up to them. Many were no doubt working, and perhaps others didn't want to seem to be promoting themselves if they were no longer working. I mean, "Look how old he/she looks!" or perhaps even worse, "Look how well preserved he/she is!" might not be a response you want to encourage, and it's unfortunately bound to be the response of some viewers. I'm just amazed at the assemblage of talent recalling memorable performances we love, whoever is there.

The last time audiences saw her in the Oscar nominated blockbuster Basic Instinct for Lions Gate which was her final film from June 12, 1992. Sadly, she wasn’t invited at the 1998 Academy Awards. However she made her final appearance at the 1993 Academy Awards.
