I would have simply wiped the hard drive, and performed a clean Windows install. That is always a much safer, and faster method than trying to clean up someone else's old installation. It isn't their PC anymore. So there is nothing to preserve. Wipe it, and start clean.

Those are very common in offices, since they require very little space on a desk and since they use the same optical drive as a laptop, the disk is held by the center spindle and won't just fall out if the computer is in a vertical orientation, unlike a regular desktop type of optical drive, which would not only make the case larger, but limit the user as to how they could put the case on their desk

Nice find. Never saw a hard drive mounted quite like that, though.

Some ppl just don't think. XP allows multiple administrators. The lock loop is for putting a padlock through. Intel's first dual core. 32 bit but still a dual core

I think Windows XP will only see 3Gb of RAM...see what happens.

The 32-bit version will only see around 3GB of RAM. 64-bit will see much more....

I have 3 of the next model up '755' OptiPlexes. They decent machines especially with an SSD in place of the HDD OS drive. By the way.....you're shorting out that 2032 by handling it that way.

Hey, I was wondering if you might be willing to help me with something? I have this same exact computer that I got from a friend who said there were some bad capacitors on the motherboard. Only, when I got it in my possession, the capacitors were already removed and he couldn't recall where they were on the board. On top of that, I can't find a schematic or diagram anywhere online whatsoever. Now, I know they're 6.3 volt capacitors because he was so kind as to bring me the junk ones I just don't know how to go about replacing them without knowing where they go. Is there any chance someone can assist?

Yes, apparently it's gone as far as to reach back this many years trying to get help. 😕

Be careful with the 745 models. They are notorious for having busted capacitors on the system board. This will cause crashes, random reboots or shut downs. This was a problem back at the time these computers were made, but not only with these models. Badly-made capacitors of the same type made it onto various models of PCs and system boards. I've seen this problem also affect older IBM Netvista PCs. The problem can be easily seen. Just open the side case, remove the HDD, and glimpse at the top of the capacitors. If they are bulging, or have a black substance leaking out, then they're bad. If this is the case with your PC, you could get replacement capacitors, but this would require soldering. Another option is to get a replacement board, but get one that had the capacitors replaced, and verify it with the seller. There's a reason why that PC was in the trash. Be wary.
