TMN: s1e9 | TRANSIT - MTA Regional Rebuild Center (Formerly known as SCRTD Central Maintenance Facility)
Los Angeles CA | December 23, 1998 | 11:45 AM
The Central Maintenance Facility CMF was the crown jewel of the Southern California Rapid Transit District SCRTD, it was planned in 1977 and completed on April 25, 1987, "It's our pride and joy," said Phillip Meyers, a Chief Engineer at RTD (Headways, 1987). It was the largest construction project second only to the Metro Rail Project to Long Beach (Headways, 1987). February 1, 1993, following the merger with LACTC; the newly formed MTA renamed the old RTD CMF to Regional Rebuild Center RRC in 1995 (MDRL, 2016). This location is the internal heartbeat of the agency; operational support services of all Metro divisions using a state of the art Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) for inventory and moving parts on a robotized equipment vehicle (Headways, 1987). The center rebuilds, paints and upgrades all metro, other municipal agencies, police and Los Angeles Unified School District buses (MDRL, 2016). On this particular day, the RRC had an open house and select sections of the center was showcased to the public.

Amazing and historical footage! This facility is now known as Division 13 or CMF (Central Maintenance Facility).

This is some amazing footage. Lots of Neoplans, Flxibles and RTS's are seen. Even a short tour of the Northrop Grumman at the end! The machinery and equipment of the time looked pretty cool. I especially loved the scene where a DDEC 6V92 engine is being tested on a computer and the office scene where what appeared to be an old IBM AT style monitor was spotted, that was already old even back then!

I still miss those babies. :( Not that I'm complaining w/ the ones that we have now, but seeing those buses roaming on the streets is just part of the reason why I am a transit advocate.

Let’s say Greater L.A. Area; including RTA, Omnitrans, and the OCTA. Of course, memorizing all the bus lines is a challenge, unlike the Metro’s bus system.

The MTA system is fairly easy to remember where lines travel to. Thank you for what you do for public transit!

We absolutely had no idea that there are people that actually love all things transit. We just happened to have a camcorder that day and decided to film back in 1998. We have been getting request to record bus lines but in due time of course. Thanks for watching!

@@TheMetropolitanNetwork thank you so much. And also I miss the white bus with one Red Jacket line & Orange Jacket line on it. I wish they can bring it back even the old LACMTA Old Logo for anniversary.
