TMNT Ultimates Super7 April O'Neil Review and In Depth Comparison Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Finally, after a month or so, here's my review/discussion of the brand new April O'Neil Ultimates figure. Jeez all of my Wave 3 videos have been really long. They may as well be podcasts with images. In this video I compare this brand new figure with the old figure from 1988. I discuss the initial reaction to April's design and the controversy that followed. Did Super7 change anything to appease the fans? They said they did, so here I talk about what they changed and didn't. Excellent review as always! I feel like I'm there only one thinks there eye application placement is a problem with this figure. They're spaced a little too far apart and aren't aligned properly. I actually think the eyes look best on the mic'd up head. Oh well

another awesome vid Gary! I think she looks good with the newest head. i dont mind the other head but the new one just looks more april to me. So what do you think about the Thundercats delays? I wonder what the problem with Cheetara was .... personally I would of rather of gotten the figure and replacement parts later like they did with wave 1. .... and holy crap wave 2 being delayed again...... its at the point we'll get neca making thundercats before we get super 7 wave 2 lol

Thank you! I’m really bummed about the delays. My guess is it has something to do with Cheetara’s hips or at least I hope it does. When they released shots of Cheetara her hips were spread far apart so people said she looked weird. She does, it’s like their female motu figures. They said that it was just an early picture and that it’s fixed in the final. My guess is she really was going to look like that so they’re fixing it. I hope so haha! I can’t believe wave 2 is pushed back again. I can understand the reasons Brian’s usually gives, (shipping, not being on the factories priority list) but this seems crazy to me. It’s like the Thundercats are cursed. I think it took Neca 3 months to produce their 1990 movie April after they had their preorder window so I’d like to know how they were able to do that. On the bright side of things I just got the Wave 3 Slithe yesterday from BBTS. I started my review, but I may have to wait an extra day or two to release the video, because I’m waiting for an original Slithe Ace to come in the mail. Thanks for asking!

I've watched The Foot Soldiers are Revolting many times, and I don't think I ever noticed the gun. See, this is why I love this channel, the attention to detail is commendable. Now, this figure is a bit weird and you went over all the reasons why. That torso area is definitely too short and odd looking. I believe you're the first reviewer that points out that her body didn't see any changes to the prototype (others would actually say the opposite - what's up with that?). I like that even when you disagree with some complaints people have, you still discuss them impartially and don't dismiss them outright. Many good points in this video. Thanks buddy.

Thank you very much! I probably wouldn't have noticed it, but I've been combing the old cartoon for as much interesting notes as I can. It's been taking me forever! I started doing it so I could know whatever misc accessories NECA includes with their toys. I think I'm half way done now. I don't understand why everyone seems to think they changed the body. I think people just took Super7 for their word. I'm pretty sure I remember them saying they did a lot to change it, but seriously I don't see it at all and it sounds like you noticed they didn't also. I found this video a little difficult to record haha. I tried to make my point of view as tactful as I could and wrote it out once or twice so I'm glad you were happy with my execution. Also I downloaded TMNT Rescue Palooza! I just have to free up some time to play it. It really looks amazing. You also sort of read my mind with that awesome looking Thundercats game you made. A long time ago I wanted to make a video on NES games that should exist. I had an idea for a Thundercats game that was kind of like Kickmaster graphic wise and control. As you play the game you'd free the other Thundercats and they'd become playable characters like Castlevania III. The levels would take place in different areas from the show and the music would be chiptunes of the Thundercats score. I also thought it'd be cool to have one Thundertank shooting stage. Obviously I have no idea how to program that, but I was going to make art for it haha.

@@razrentals8897 I'm definitely happy with the execution of the video! I like your ThunderCats idea. I think the rescuing thing was actually part of the original C64 and Spectrum games, but was shoddily implemented (as in, you never see the Tcats you rescue, let alone play as them.)

They never seem to make the female figures anywhere near as good as the dudes. At least they've got better at sculpting them. I hope the Ultimate Fred Wolf April fixes all of the problems the original April had!

I saw them and yeah I agree with you, they look amazing! I really like how clever they're making the new weapons racks. Sewer Surfer Michelangelo look amazing and has so many cool things. Slash looks awesome. I'm happy that he looks like he'll be bigger than the turtles since the original was shorter than them. I also really like Ace Ducks new head with the flying cap. I'm a little bummed that when I get Scratch I won't be able to do a comparison with him haha. His original toy is just way too expensive!

Finally. I went through the 5 Stages of Grief waiting for this video. 1. Denial - The April review is coming today. It has to be. Why wouldn't it? 2. Anger - I hate Gary from Razz Rentals. Screw that guy. He should be taken off KZbin forever. Take away his toys too. 3. Bargaining - I'll sub and resub to your channel as much as you need me too. I'll take out the trash and even clean the microwave. Just give me the April review. 4. Depression - What am I going to do without my favorite Super 7 TMNT reviewer? haha I hope it was worth it! It was driving me crazy not having it finished too! Pretty much everything you mentioned is what slows down the process. Family time, my regular job, I'm fixing up the rooms in my attic so I can move my collection up there, and I also make artwork for people too! I have too many things going on at all times, but I definitely want to produce as many videos as I can just because I love toys. It's a lot of fun trying to put everything together and it gives me an excuse to remember all of the stuff I like about my favorite characters. Up next should hopefully be NECA's Muckman, Mondo Gecko, and Chrome Dome. They've been sitting here staring at me. I really like making the old Playmates reviews too and going over all of the characters appearances in other TMNT media.

@@razrentals8897 I collect some of the Neca when I can find it. It's just so hard for me to actually find any in my area. Super 7 was pretty much a dream for me. I still have all my vintage TMNT, and the Super 7 TMNT really has shown me just how much I love the vintage Playmates toys.

Great review! I agree on the new April sculpt--overall it feels maybe a bit too close to the original toy. I think they could have pushed it a bit further, especially for the torso--it feels a little too toyetic and not enough like a normal human shape. But I do like this figure much more than I expected to! TMNT Ultimates is my absolute favorite line right now, and I'm losing my mind over the recent Slash reveal! I kinda wish Super7 would stop picking up new licenses and just crank on the ones they have. These figures are so good, I need more!!! :)

Thank you! I agree with you, I hope Super7 isn’t stretching themselves too thin. I know people were really excited to see silverhawks wave 1, but I was sitting here thinking “I need more Thundercats first!” Slash looks amazing. Everything looks like they nailed the old figure and made him even better. I’m really looking forward to him and sewer Mike. I saw on Facebook someone took the Slash pics and colored the skin to match the old Archie comics and it looked just like those old comics. I wouldn’t mind making a custom myself, but then I’d actually have to do it haha.

No I never got any pieces for this. I think I contacted them about my Ultimates Mikey and I got nothing. Liono was the only one where they sent something right away when I had a problem.

@@razrentals8897 I still have no clue what the heck even happened with the NECA figure. The initial prototype they showed had a proportionate head and body but then the one they showed off the next year had the weirdly inflated and smushed proportions. It's like whatever digital files they used they tampered with last minute or something, like they shrunk the body and made the head massive.

Actually this is one of the few times that the whole vintage figure is better. The sculpt is sharper in the wrinkles and the facial features and the proportions are much better and more feminine. Plus it's not translucent like the super7 version. I feel like the vintage gets a lot of negativity because of the poor paint job accompanied by the expectation that it should look like the cartoon. And I've noticed more and more that the Super7 figures keep having undersized/small accessories that barely fit the figures (if they fit them at all). I appreciate their effort but this figure was their number 1 failure so far.

@@rupturefarms21 the undersized weapons is probably my major complaint with these guys, bebop’s drill would be so much cooler if it was larger and so would Baxter’s fly swatter.

@@razrentals8897 Right, I didn't even notice until I opened all of mine recently (few weeks ago). Rocksteadys shield is the most disappointing because not even the turtles could fit in a sewer with a manhole cover that small. And then baxters arm band (or whatever it is) isn't even designed to fit him at all.

I call the toon line the Fred Wolfe series since that was the company that produced the show. Randy has mentioned recently that they are working on a new version of the April figure since the old one got some negative feedback. I assume it’ll be a stand alone release like the Neca Ultimate Foot Soldier or Krang etc. Her alone with some new accessories.
