The fact that you can get 10x the upload of a cable provider alone is worth it. As a T-Mobile subscriber, I'll switch as soon as they tell me it's available in my area.

My address is not available either. It seems strange they use this to help those in rural areas and mine is not available But my sisters in town with a plethora of options available. So I went to my local store in town 20 min drive and use my sister‘s address in order to receive the gateway. They didn’t bat an eye at my drivers license being different. And I got my Gateway. I am out in rule area, and closest T-Mobile tower is about 20 miles away. I have very few locations in my house that get barely 5 Mbps on my phones hotspot but with the Gateway in those spots I am pulling between 25 to 30 Mbps. I’ll be looking for an external antenna when I get a little bit more time and a little bit more funds to do so. I’m sure you could probably talk them into it and you might try that, but I was near the store and more or less at a spur of the moment tried it out and it worked out to my benefit. Good luck!

Since my girlfriend received her T-Mobile setup she has equaled or surpassed her Cox cable speeds, but best of all her normal every day bottlenecks/slow downs that occurred with Cox have disappeared. She loves it and I'm green with envy, sigh. Thanks Peter!

Hey I like your videos. I just added the same antenna huge improvement. You said that you want the RSRP to be as close to 100 as possible, that's actually wrong. The lower the number the better for the RSRP. Also I like the web interface much more and you can see everything. To see the band you need to click the Status on the left then expand Primary and Secondary under Cellular Network.

For anyone out there.. My situation, I was getting average of 350mbps by 35 mpbs. on band B2 and N41 with no external antenna. I went ahead and got the external antenna recommended by this channel. I took the Gateway apart and put in the antenna connectors.. finally got 5 bars with the same bands. The speed test were absolutely horrible. I was hopping for 700 like this video and I can see the tower maybe 3 miles away if so. maybe less. I spent the whole day repositioning the antenna outside and got it to get 5 bars. but still the speed was actually worse than in comparison with the sweet spot I found on my house. I ended up returning the whole equipment. I do not like that the speeds are inconsistent. This guy is the luckiest I've seen. Band B2 and N41 are good bands but for some reason in my area do I rarely got 400 and 50 tops.. I was hopping to get 700 like this guy.. but reality is that only 5% of the users out there will ever get this speeds.

Great question - I have been giving this lots of thought. Here is what I have come up with: I think it has to do with the Bands you are getting for 4G and 5G. What are the primary and secondary bands that you are getting? For the 4G side, I am getting Band 2 or 66 which are two of the fastest 4G Bands; Band 2 (1900MHz) and Band 66 (1700MHz). And then I am aggregating with 5G's n41 (secondary band) which is way faster than n71 (the other Secondary Band) see www.techplayon.com/5g-nr-frequency-bands/ I think because I am getting two of the highest frequency bands and GOOD signal - I am getting REALLY GOOD speeds. I would love to learn from y'all which bands you are pulling along with the speeds you are seeing. Perhaps we have cracked the case on this one.

Peter, love your channel! Like the T-Mobile trash can, but wish there was a way to make it try to connect to a 5G tower. It connects to a 4 g tower about 1/3 mile away, and closest 5G tower is about 4 miles away. It has latest firmware, connects to band b71, and I get around 100 down and 10 up, which is acceptable, but are there any workarounds to try to make it look for a 5G tower? I am getting download speeds around 100-400 Mbps and upload speeds around 20 -60+. I read that you can turn off the WiFi radios for the T-Mobile home internet modem/router but this can only be done with the older white 4G modem/router which is a white flat shaped box. Is this correct? If so, they only had the new 5G modem router at the T-Mobile stores. I called support and they are shipping me the 4G model so I can compare the 2. I want to use my own router which is a Asus RT-N66U Dual Band 3x3 wireless N900 Gigabit wireless router. Let me know your thoughts. Thank You.

So I have T-Mobile home internet and I'm only 1/4 mile from the tower. I've got 5 bars from my Arcadia T-Mobile router and my reference numbers are really good too. I've gotten 415 mbs download and 140 upload speeds. With all my 27 devices hooked up I get a wifi download of 150 to 220 mbs. Having a great signal on band 66 and n41 can I get even faster speeds with a antenna? I am a block away from a YMCA and the tower gets congested at certain times of the day..

Currently Tmobile is requiring Home Internet Users to stay fixed, right down to a single tower. This is to provide quality of service to other customers. They need to know where these potentially "Heavy Users" are going to be on their network. I think that will change as 5G gets more established, but who's to say. For now, I am getting much faster, reliable and unlimited service that I was paying for 100GB/mo of 4G LTE. $50/mo is what I am paying for unlimited through Tmobile.

I've watched several KZbin videos and read about the experiences of people who go about rigging the gateway for an external antenna. Considering that it's violating the service agreement and you could be stuck at some point paying the $380 fee for the gateway, although I've not heard of anyone charged so far for this infraction, the worst thing is that it might not help at all for your situation. The Waveform company allows returns if it doesn't work. Some people are located between two or three towers, fairly close by, and for whatever reason, like getting a very strong signal from the 4G component, they get locked into low speed ranges and have trouble getting their fastest 4G/5G non-standalone signal combination. They aren't getting to the tower with the n41, or if they do, it's fleeting. For them, a $200+ external antenna like the Waveform, when pointed in the correct direction at the n41 tower, can increase their speeds dramatically, from like 75 to over 700, if they are close enough to the n41 tower. Again, their problem was not distance to a tower, but in the gateway dynamically choosing the combination with n71 or a slow band, like the primary only. I do not have this problem because I don't have the n71 band available and the n41 is fortunately the one nearest, even though it's five miles away. You're kind of in my situation, as I regularly get speeds over 300, but sometimes below 200. If this gateway had an external antenna port, I'd probably go for it, because it might be worth it to boost my average from 200/30 to 400/60. But considering the fuss and expense, and a strong possibility it might not help at all, or only help by 100 or less, that is not worth it to me.
