Most anti-depressants are Seritonin focused,. Have you tried a Dopamine med. such as Wellbutrin, etc.? Dopamine is heavily linked to motivation. Exercise also boosts dopamine if you can make yourself get your heart rate up, it is an immediate boost and you should feel something within a week/4-5 times.

The thyroid story is absolutely fascinating...I've always been suspect of my levels as both my mother and brother have thyroid issues. That said I went to a concierge clinic (in NYC of all places lol) as I thought they would be more thorough then a practice bound by insurance guidelines. I was a bit surprised when they said it was fine, but only checked it after being prompted. Anyways, if I wasn't so terrified of needles then I would get another test done right away. Will ask my pcd about natural thyroid :-)

150mg lithium carbonate is roughly 28mg of elemental lithium. So one could take 5 of the 5mg lithium orotate pills and be almost there.
@MikeAPRN4 жыл бұрын
That's accurate from a mathematics standpoint, but you need to be very cautious with starting with that type of dose initially. It is much safer to start at lowest dose, usually one tab of 5 mg orotate, and slowly work your way up. This is because lithium orotate delivers the actual lithium to the cells of the brain more efficiently than lithium carbonate. So people typically do not need to take a lithium orotate dose equal to lithium carbonate.

I think they're on the horizon. I do know they are still considered "experimental" in the U.S. and being studied in clinical trials. As mentioned, fluoxetine is a great option, along with mirtazepine, that has 5HT2c antagonistic actions. Some atypical antipsychotics do as well, like quetiapine and olanzapine, but come with a slew of other side effects unfortunately.

@@MikeAPRN I think You believe in psychiatry of 80's but now there is 2020..sorry but fluoxetine is now considered as an old medicine....plus mirtazapine= many side effects so psychiatry is stil stuufed dirty treatment. Clinical trials show antidepressants work no better than placebos and pharmaceutical companies do several studies and cherry pick results to submit the favorable results to the FDA when it comes to getting these drugs approved. Antidepressants have not been studied for long term safety and clinical trials for most antidepressants are a few weeks or months at best. Many have the notion that anxiety or depression is like diabetes and like a good diabetic they need to take their antidepressants for life. Nothing could be further from the truth. Even mainstream psychiatry will admit the chemical imbalance myth is just that....a myth. Unlike a disease like diabetes, high cholesterol, etc, psychiatry diagnoses are only diagnosed by excluding other issues that could cause symptoms and the DSM. The DSM has come under fire recently as it's very subjective and at any given time in a person's lifetime, they could be labeled depressed or anxious or even schizophrenic (who hasn't had an auditory hallucination and thought someone called their name??) simply because they could check off a symptom in a manual. Psychiatry is the only branch of medicine where there are no tests to diagnose a disease but rather it's based on a list of emotions. Anxiety and depression have a root cause that needs to be addressed and it's not the mythical chemical imbalance. Antidepressants have serious side effects which are not rare. Side effects are vastly under reported but not rare. Antidepressants do not prevent suicides. In fact, study after study has shown they increase the risk of suicide in all ages. Even the FDA required antidepressants to have a black box warning (the strongest warning the FDA gives) because of the suicide risk. While the black box warning specifically mentions suicide risk in young adults, studies have shown antidepressants increase suicide risks in people of all ages. Furthermore, antidepressants have been linked to violence, worst long term outcomes, birth defects and learning disabilities when taken while pregnant, increased risk of death, diabetes, cancer, and so much more. Antidepressants have been shown to actually cause anxiety and depression and increase the risk of future depressive episodes. Some of the side effects can be permanent and continue long after the drug is stopped.

It's not a black and white issue. It seems that there are at least three different forms of depression. As this doctor explains some benefit from one treatment while other are immune to it. I agree that the diagnosis for depression is weak by using only symptoms.
