Dear Dr. McMullen, I appreciate your sharing so much of your experience with psychiatric medications over the years. I wanted to ask how you feel about the theory of early childhood attachment styles; specifically the main four which are: Secure, avoidant, anxious, and disorganized. Do you believe in the widely held assumption by psychologists that talk therapy can help to give people back control of their lives from the traumatic pain of not having their needs consistently meant by their caregivers in early childhood? Talk therapy focused on this purports to help people to improve their relationships with friends, family and romantic partners-And even help to improve mood, thoughts, and behavior in people with personality disorders. My apologies for dropping comments as long as the Epic of Gilgamesh, I’m a writer with a lot of free time on my hands these days. I appreciate any advice or ideas you may have about this, regardless of length. Thanks, Brad

Hi Dr. McMullen, I have a request, could you possibly make a video on treatment resistant anxiety/panic disorder? I have a treatment resistant panic disorder myself, tried different SSRI's & SNRI's, Antipsychotics, Beta Blockers, Exposure therapy, CBT, EMDR, Psychotherapy, and been in treatment for 8 years. Started when I was 16 and i'm currently 24, with no signs of improvement. Me and my "team" of psychiatrists & psychologists are trying our best to figure things out. But i'd love to see a video of you where you touch on this topic. And if you've ever had any patients yourself who were treatment resistant, possible causes, and how you dealth with it. Cheers!

It is disturbing to see that so many people are suffering short- and long-term side effects from this TMS treatment. Many of these people, like myself, went into it with confidence in their doctors’ recommendations and did everything they could to make it work. Like me, they were desperate, looking for an answer, seeking something to switch their path and take them in a different direction. None of us knew that this direction would be so life-altering. I want to make sure that people know my story and listen to others who are having the same issues. TMS is an FDA-approved treatment option for people like me who have had treatment-resistant depression symptoms. We trusted it and believed our doctors. Doctors have to swear an oath to “do no harm,” but I just don’t see how they can keep that oath and knowingly persuade people at their darkest of times to do something that might damage their livelihoods and quality of life. My life is different now, for the worse, so persistence and the will to get better will have to hold me together so I can keep fighting and keep moving.

I have suffered from mild depression for over 10 years, I have never seemed treatment until now, I started going to a therapist and it is helping but I still feel like I need more help. I am currently pregnant and I’m scared that this pregnancy depression will move over to postpartum. I watched the fish oil video and I am going to try it out.

Dr. McMullen I’m guessing you don’t have the time to check the comments, but in case you do at some point (or if anyone else knows the answer..) I’m wondering about NAC, the supplement you mentioned in a video 3 yrs ago; I want to try it but I have high blood pressure...there’s contradictory info online about NAC & bp so I’m afraid to try it :/ Thanks again for a great channel!

Can someone tell what problem I might be facing, my teeth shivers mildly all the time and sometimes I have palpitations in the brain, my memory is gone for the toss, I find difficult to take decisions. What could be the issue ? I did go to psychiatrist twice but somehow I am not satisfied. Additionally, I feel very stressed and anxious due to work, especially if I have meetings, presentations, concalls. I just keep on thinking excellsively about the task or work which I have. Recently, I was forced to resign from my job but instead of feeling sad I was feeling relived. I just get worked easily at work which tends me to leave that job. But my biggest concern is my teeth shivers all the time. What could be cause how to find out exact diagnosis? I want to rule out serious disorders, how do I do ?

Do you know what dose Selegiline oral is needed for depression? Thanks!
@johns966
@johns966 4 жыл бұрын
“At oral doses between 30-60 mg/day (3-6 times greater than that used in the treatment of PD), selegiline has been studied for depression in several clinical studies and found to be effective. At these doses, oral selegiline significantly inhibits MAO-A and MAO-B in the peripheral and central tissues. However, because selectivity for MAO-B is lost (at doses exceeding 20 mg/day), the attendant risk of developing a tyramine-provoked event is increased.” (Schulz et al 1989). I’m pretty sure it needs to be taken with fat to be absorbed. I’m not sure about sublingual dosing tho.

@@johns966 Good point on addressing its absorption issue. The Selegiline patch was great but a hassle to get approved by insurers. MAOI's have been overlooked in psychiatry, but they are great medicines.
@johns966
@johns966 4 жыл бұрын
@@Monster33336 Hopefully maois will make comeback once the selegiline patch becomes generic. They're also running trials on phenelzine(Nardil) to treat prostate cancer which bodes well for its availability. I do agree, they are an excellent class of drugs.

Does TMS the ones used for Major depression...deep and neurostar are those the same ones that help Bipolar depression too? I did it last year in a mild chronic depression when I wasn’t diagnosed bipolar and it didn’t seem to help then.. but months and months probably 6 later I went into a gigantic depression I still haven’t gotten out of. Lamictal was helping me but not all the way and trileptal a new medicine is making me feel confused and agitated ...I feel sort of out of options I feel the only things next are Lithium and others that are gonna make me gain weight which is just awful to me

Dysthymia (chronic low depression) in the long term is as invalidating as major depression in the short term. and there is no cure for it and none talks about it.. it's like living in the middle between depression and normality. In my opinion it's a metabolic problem of the brain. antidepressants are basically useless for me for this problem. they are useful only for major depression.
