This man (Chris) is fantastic. He has learnt me how to use The Behringer Xenyx X1204 USB with FX. He has also learnt me how to set it op for live radio broadcasting, and for internet broadcasting. An finaly he has shown me how to record from the mixer to for example Audacity. So now I can make radio 3 ways by using The Behringer Xenyx X1204 USB with FX - live radio, live internet radio and recording radio broadcasting, so that other radio stations can use my radioshows. Thank You so much Chris - It is a pleasure to get to know you

Thanks for this. I've had this mixer for a while and learned some things. It might be more helpful to refer to the audio going to the "auxiliary out" jack rather than the "Skype channel" because it goes to wherever you send that "aux out" cable. And maybe give an explanation of what mix minus is. Anytime you're looking at a news cast and a few seconds into the live on-scene report, and the reporter yanks the earpiece out, it's because the mix-minus wasn't set up correctly and the reporter is hearing him or herself back a second or two later. It couldn't be more distracting. Very nice job, though, and I'm happy I stumbled into this.

Thanks TNT for sharing this tutorial for us dummies,..this video is explained in simple terms and i was keen on buying other console mixers but alot of them don't have one knob compressor knobs and if they did the mixer console would have knobs, not fader channels.. and they were'nt selling it at the price of this mixer here... the 1204fx console has a pack load of features at a affordable price..
@created19837 жыл бұрын
you have to physically "tap" the effects button to make a selection . i just found that out playing with my behringer . it says "tap" above the "program / parameter" dial . some of the effects make kind of "echo / reverb" noises . you ALSO use the "ORANGE" dials to send the effect to the main mix , i'm pretty sure .
@5speed735i4 жыл бұрын
I realize this video is now 6 years old but I would like to add some advice- if you have this board with the "FX" ability, do not ignore it! By rolling up the second knob from the bottom (labeled FX), you can add a little delay/reverb, which adds a little perceived space to the sound- which should not be overlooked. With a little delay/reverb in the mix, it seems less like someone is talking directly into your ear, thereby making the listener feel a little less creeped out. But if you like to project what some feel is a cozy/close sound then disregard my suggestion.

@Tnerdt16 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the question and watching the video. This mixer is not really meant to use an external gate limiter. The mixer in the video has built in compression knobs. These are not the best in the world but they do an ok job considering the price of this mixer. In order to use an external gate limiter you need a mixer that has line inputs. they are usually 1/4 inputs just under the XLR mic input per channel or they are on the back like on some Mackie mixers.
@gm21249 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris. Just have one more question. In the video, you use a 3.5mm to XLR cable for Skype, not a 3.5mm to mono jacks. Could you tell me more about the different between them? Thanks
@Tnerdt19 жыл бұрын
Max Zhang No problem, I used this connection type so I could get Skype to come into a mic input that has the built in compression. I had tried using a 3.5mm to 1/4 but the sound was not as good, could have been a cheap cable. Having the cable connected on a channel with compression can help with audio quality, cuts out clipping. As a side note I do use software for the post show to adjust preseved audio levels.

James Day Thank you for watching the video and for the purchase. When using CH 7/8 you could connect a iPad using the proper cables. Not to mention lap top pc or pretty much anything as a input. Just keep in mind CH 7/8 are audio input channels, if you wanted to have another mix minus you would have to use the fx out similar to using the Aux out. There are so many audio options when using a mixer its hard to actually list them all.

You should do a tut on running a G+ , YT or live-stream ,/ hangouts / super-chat…. I see so many ppl having issues w/the audio & the screen sharing…. doing these I just got this one minus the FX's. I have a good interface that has inserts USB I got the mixer to do some looping petals & other instrument into a powered speaker for drums & bass loops on the out put of the Trio petal as well as the sDrum petal w/a guitar amp combo for stringed instruments. As well as a small set up for jams w/other musicians. But this gave me a whole other application for the mixer. Great job. I'd love to see any tuts on running the live streams like a Live Podcast I suppose w/the YT G+ interface it would be well received I believe & much needed. I'm on a mac. I was just thinking it might not be that hard to take that 1/4" input on Chn 1 & make it an insert jack. I have a buddy that is an audio gear guru he'd know if it could be done easily.

Excellent tutorial! I got the "wanna podcast" last year with my husband. We are working on our own little diddy and I'm learning FROM ZERO about it. I got the Behringer Xenyx 1204 USB and followed the instructions to set up...but your video went over the details so well MUCH better than any other I've seen. Thanks for that. I am stumped on a few parts: I need to connect up my iMac to the mixer. I know you have a split. I don't know what that is or what to call it when I go into Radio Shack and ask for it. I have a second microphone (which my husband and I will speak together on jaw jacking). Where does his headphone plug in? I am using audacity to record. I have Garage Band but don't know anything about it. Have you ever used Audacity? I've only practiced recording (just mic to the computer, no mix board between). Right now I am missing some connection because I cannot hear anything in my headphones despite having the mixer plugged into my computer. Forgive my ignorance - I'm seriously brand new. Like MINUTES new.

@Tnerdt19 жыл бұрын
+Chipper Nicodemus Thank you for watching the video and for the suggestion and question. When I first started podcasting my goal was to do it with as little hardware as possible. I wanted to just use a laptop and iPad, that would have worked had I not gone crazy and decided to do other things that required more horse power. Because I use my iMac to record and do the sound effects I use an app called Sound board its not the best but it works. Thanks to having a mixer I can hook almost anything up to it. So I can still use my iPad as a sound board or I can get an actual soundboard the sky is the limit, ok ... also budget lol. If you have any more questions or comments Nicodemus hit me up.

Hi There, i know its an old video but i got a question regarding the Phantom power. If i understood you correctly you used the headphone out of the skype machine (where the audio is comming out) to go into the XLR connector on Port 4. Your microphone is connected to XLR on port on. I would like to copy that set up( got the cord here), but i am stumped right now. My mic needs phantom power. How do I set it for that - I mean - to setup the microfon and pc is easy enough, BUT how do I make the Sound go out into the air? such as. on an Internet radio station. Hope to hera from You wery soon - because I have to go live on Wednesday. March 25. All the best Finn
@Tnerdt19 жыл бұрын
Hello Finn, If you are going to be solo this should be pretty easy. Hook the mixer up to you main computer. The USB connection will be sending all of your audio from the mixer to the computer. Make sure in your computers sound settings you have the Usb selected for audio in. That will get all audio piped into the mixer to go right to the computer. Next you will want to run what ever live software or website program running on the same machine. The software will be pulling your audio from the Computer to the internet. Thats the solo setup, if you have guests, cohosts and or other audio you want to pipe in through the mixer the setup changes slightly. Example: Your Mic >Mixer > Computer > Software > Internet.

Hello Chris. Many thanks for your reply. It sounds to be reasonably simple, but I think I'll try my way forward based on what you write here. What softawre will you use to send live on the internet? And the software must be set up in a special way, to bring the sound out? Best regards Finn

The TAP button is for setting the repeat time of delay and echo effects. Just tap it in time with the tempo of the song and it will be in perfect sync. In some cases it can even be used to dictate the speed of modulation effects, like flanger or phaser, or even panning and tremolo.

Instead of using your phones to an input, why don't you use aux/fx send to return? This would allow you to run send to fx pedals or a compressor if you want and back to return in stereo or mono. Just curious. Send and return is what I like in a mixer and I was looking at this one on reverb for like $150.

But seriously this is a great overview. It's very informative, really explaining things for newbies like me, I love this so much. My only question is how to get it so people on Skype don't hear a loopback of themselves. Do I need an extra cable? I can't fully understand it.
@Tnerdt19 жыл бұрын
Hello EPrimeify, I am glad this video has helped you. Let me see if I can explain how to fix the Skype issue. If you have your mixer hooked up like mine then you are using two machines. One for recording and one for Skype. The channel that you are using for sky should have a Aux knob like the mixer in this video the knob is red on top. The knob should be set to -00. The Aux knob is used to send audio to the other channels. so the channel your mic is on the Knob can be turned up about a quarter turn depending on your audio levels this will allow the audio to split off so your Skype call can hear you. Just remember the Aux knob for the Skype channel needs to be turned to the lowest setting far left -00. If you need some more help email me Feedback@tnerdt.com I would be more then happy to assist you further.

Total Nerd Takeover Sadly I have one computer, it's a Mac and there's no mic input. Should I try to fenaggle with Virtual Cable? Or am I doomed.
@Tnerdt19 жыл бұрын
EPrimeify No my friend you are not doomed Virtual Cable will do the trick. I have never used it but have been told it works just a bit tricky to set up. So it may appear the Mac has no mic in, but it should be built into the 3.5mm jack just like a iPhone. one port does both and you can get a cable that will split the audio input and output. Link bit.ly/Startechadapt . now you can have audio go into your Mac from the usb off the mixer and if you have a smartphone you can run Skype on it. Connect the smart phone using the cable and avoid Virtual cable all together. You would just do the mix minus to the smartphone. Hope that helps my friend. Hit me up for more info.

Even on the board, the meter to the far right barely shows any input. It doesn't light up very much and the recording in garage band is much lower than I'd like. Any ideas on the cause? Appreciate the help...love the channel.
@Tnerdt18 жыл бұрын
Scott Gulbransen I have this same issue, the only way I have been able to get the meter lights higher is to up the volume or the mic gains. However every time I do this I find the audio to be to high and more chance of clipping. So I just keep every thing lower, easier to jack up quite audio that sounds good. If you need more help email me feedback&TNERDT.com

Awesome video! Thank you so much! However, i still have this doubt, i hope you can help me: 1. I would like to have Channel 1 for my mic; and then have 2 separate channels to play music (let's call it deck A - that would be assigned to Channel 2 - and deck B - that would be assigned to Channel 3). I don't have any CDJ, so my music is in my laptop, but I don't know if it's possible to assign via software, deck A (in Traktor, for example) to Channel 2 (in the mixer) and deck B (in Traktor too) to Channel 3 (in the mixer). That would allow me to "simulate" live radio, using a channel to control one deck, and the other channel to control the other deck, while loading the music in the software! Is it possible? Thank you!

Hi there mate - a very good video..very very informative. I was wondering if you can help me. I have the same mixer for 3 months now and I have connected my condenser mic (xlr) on channel 1, connected my monitors and the headphones to the mixer...I am using the usb cable to connect it to the laptop. What I am trying to do is to play a karaoke track on my laptop - which I should be able to hear in the studio headphones over my ears and then when I start singing (using the condenser mic) then I want my vocals to be recorded on a separate channel (not to be mixed with karaoke track) and I want to hear myself real time when singing/recording my vocals... is it even possible with this mixer or should I look for some other mixer that can do what I require

Well, I use the Usb as an output, but if you are somehow using it as an input the way you would adjust the volume would be from the source. I would need more info about your setup and how you have the USB setup.

Thanks for replying, man! Highly appreciated. Currently I am also trying to change my setup a bit so that I can use some audio samples (bloopers) into my youtube videos (let's plays), especially when I am gaming with others but also for my podcasts. So I wish to hear these and my voice and my coop-partners should also. I wish to get this running with only 1 laptop (2 monitors) though and have troubles with the latency when hearing myself. Do you know about any software solution to get rid of this delay? I am using a Pronomic M-502, so a very basic mix table, as well as a XLR-microphone. Just want to give it a try asking you as maybe you found some solution over the year;) Buying a new mix table shouldn't be a problem but it shouldn't be too expensive.

Hi, Really helpful video, this has definitely helped clear up some questions I was having! I've purchased a similar mixer for use for a 3 person podcast. I've seen headphone amps that enable all those involved during recording to hear themselves. Are these the only option? If so how do I connect it to the mixer? TIA

Hello everyone...I have purchased a Xenyx X1204USB model from Behringer... I have connected the USB cable from mixer to my laptop.... I havent bought speakers yet but I do have Sony MDR 7506 headphones that I will be using... basically I am a newbie in this field and all I want is to play a karaoke track on my laptop or iphone, hear the song using my closeback headphones and then sing using my condenser mic and record the music along with my voice directly into the laptop and then apply all effects... This may be a very basic question for all the experts here but how can I accomplish what I am looking for
@Tnerdt18 жыл бұрын
+Kevin Smith So let me understand this to best advise you. You have 1 computer that will be playing the music and recording your while you sing? You will be sending the audio out of your PC to the mixer from a speaker out port , that plugs into a audio input on the mixer? like channel 3 for example? You will be pushing your voice from the mixer USB out to the computer USB in? You want to play music on the PC have it go into the mixer so you can hear it through the headphones? This way you can sing the song and have your voice recorded? Do you want the music recorded also?

+Total Nerd Takeover Hi...let me try to answer your queries one at a time... 1. I have 1 laptop and I am using audacity software on it. I have got karaoke mp3 which I can import as track 1 in audacity and 2. I have a headphone connected to mixer so that I can hear the karaoke mp3 which is played on laptop and audio input on the mixer is heard via the headphones connected to mixer (I dont have speakers connected to mixer just have the headphone) 3. I have connected my condenser mic to channel 1 on mixer and yes I want to send my voice from mixer to laptop via USB 4. Yes I want to play music on PC and have it go to mixer so I can hear on headphone so that I can sing and have my vocal recorded. I already have a karaoke mp3 so dont need to record the music. However, once I apply all effects to my vocal track then eventually I would like to mix the music (karaoke) track and my vocal track to have an overall track of my vocal with music. Hope that made sense

What are all of the cables you will need for this mixer? Example: XLR cables, red-white cables, converters, ect?
@Tnerdt17 жыл бұрын
Thats tricky, how many mics will you be using? will you be connecting iPhone to iPad? Maybe some other type of smartphone? Ant musical equipment? How about a laptop you use for Skype cohosts? The most used cables on my current set up are XLR and balanced 1/4 break out and regular cables.

Hey again Chris. After a ton of research, I'm ready to buy a mixer for my podcast. This Behringer seems to have everything I need, yet I keep on going deeper down the rabbit hole, perhaps over-analyzing the different options. I'm sure I'd be happy with this Xenyx but just mildly concerned over what I've heard about Behringer pre-amps being a bit noisy. Though your audio sounds just fine on it, so again, maybe I'm over thinking it. You mentioned near the beginning of the vid that you'd prefer a better mixer if you had to do it all over again. Any particular model? I think for me, it's down to this Behringer Xenyx X1204USB, The Mackie Pro FX8, and The Yamaha MG12XU. All of them seem to have advantages and disadvantages but I'm still looking for some kind of 'WOW factor' to make me go in a certain direction. The Xenyx has tremendous value, the Mackie's are made well and are supposed to have pre-amps better than the Behringer. The Yamaha looks cool and has some good features too ($100 more expensive too). It's mainly going to be myself, an in-studio co-host, and some Skype calls. Plus we'll attach a computer/smart-phone for effects, clips, etc. So it's not going to be terribly complex, but as you said, 'wouldn't describe it as easy either'. Haha! Anyways, would love to know if there's a particular mixer you'd pick today over this one for someone like me. Thanks a mil! Your vids are tremendously helpful.

Hello again Robert, I totally understand going down the rabbit hole. I have been very satisfied with my Behringer Xenyx while it is true the preamp can have some noise I have only noticed it when pushing the audio levels to high. I was also looking at the Mackie Pro FX8 for the same reasons you mentioned ( less preamp noise) For just podcasting I think the Yamaha is to much. There is a variation of my mixer that my sister ended up getting that lacks the FX, little cheaper but is basically the same as mine ( link down below) .I never use the FX part of my board and should have got the Xeny with no FX and saved a few bucks lol. I would stick with either the Behringer or the Mackie. Both great mixers for the money and what we do. I went with the Behringer for the built in compression, while not as effective as a stand alone compressor gate limiter it did help to reduce the total equipment cost and you can get around having the extra equipment by practicing good audio etiquette. The Mackie lacks the built in compression from what I can tell, but has Insert ports used to connect a stand alone compressor gate limiter. That would have added to my coast and setup not to mention the complexity of my podcast. I do just fine without the extra hardware and find the compression knob and the software in my recording software do a great job in this regard. I lean more towards the Behringer because of the built in compression that will save you money and set up but the Mackie is a great mixer for podcasting also. When I mentioned a better mixer at the time I thought I needed a giant super expensive mixer with digital everything and multiple outputs to split the audio channels coming out. I later realized that was crazy and a waste of money for what I do lol. I left some Affiliate links down below for 3 Mixers I recommend. I get a small kick back and no extra cost to you. But please do a search and find the cheapest price you can before using my affiliate links. Hope this helps Robert and I am here for any help I can give. Thanks for your reply. In that case, what determines the quality of my mix down, it's d input sound card or output sound card. Cos I know that d on board sound card of the P.C is not as good as the USB mixer sound processor.
@Tnerdt19 жыл бұрын
+David Dare If I am understanding your question correct the mix down, atleast in my set up is determined by how I compress my audio. I use the software on my iMac to compress and edit the audio.
@dcubeismynick9 жыл бұрын
This is what I mean. Consider these two cases using the mixer x1622 as a case study 1. If I use the USB sound card of the behringer mixer as the input and I use the on board sound card on my laptop as the output 2. 1. If I use the USB sound card of the behringer mixer as the output and I use the on board sound card on my laptop as the input. With which of the two cases am I like to have a better music production? + Is it the input strength of a sound card that determines music quality or its output strength? Thanks
@Tnerdt19 жыл бұрын
+David Dare Sorry David for the late response, Case study 1 will be the best case scenario in my opinion. But there is so much more involved to get the best audio you can. Like good quality audio input from mic's and cables, having no interference and the right levels. I think these are more important then the input or output device. With my set up the sound gets mixed and the input levels are controlled by the mixer. The usb output does nothing but convert the analog signal to digital audio. That way my computer can take in the digital audio. I do this so I can better handle the edits in the program I use. My recorded audio after compression etc is then sent to the internet for podcast hosting or video etc. To get the best quality of audio into what ever system you use will depend on what you are inputing in the first place, quality clean audio or messy noisy audio. There are a lot of things to consider here, I would recommend testing and tweaking your setup until you get the quality you are looking for. I hope that helps if you need more or want to talk more about it hit me up.

Great video!!! I have been recording for years with a Behringer mixer (one of the older Xenyx models that's not usb so I have a usb audio interface. I record mainly guitar but I a looking to do a podcast and some product reviews for KZbin. MY question for you is where does your Aux out go to? You mention "mix/minus" but I am not familiar with that term? Could you explain a bit more? Thanks!!
@Tnerdt19 жыл бұрын
Mike's Tips, Tricks & Reviews Yes I have been very happy with this mixer, to answer your question. The Aux out is going to a secondary laptop as a mic in 3.5mm. From that laptop I have coming out of the speaker headphone jack 3.5mm going into 4 acting as a mic. What a mix minus does is allow me to mix all the audio and send it out to the different machines I have hooked up mines the separate laptop that I use for Skype. That way the Skype call can hear any sound effects I play but won't hear them selfs back. I hope that made sense? If you need more help please hit me up again. Thank you for your question and for checking out the video.

Hej Chris. I have to interrupt you again. It is now finally succeeded for me to mount my mixer between two PCs, so the sound can come out on the web. Unfortunately, it sounds terrible. What am I doing wrong. I mounted cables as you can see in the picture, and when the sound should be on the net, so it goes via Shoutcast through Vimamp and on the internet via PC 2. From PC 1 goes the sound from either Radio DJ or another player. If I am not using the mixer, and plays the sound using winamp on the net, it sounds fine. It is only when sound going through the mixer it goes wrong. Heeeeeeeeeeeeelp Oh - how do I set up a picture here? All the best Finn

+Barrett Prime well I have mine hooked up with the USB as and audio input. I then use my 3.5 headphone jack as an audio output that plugs into channels 5and 6 using a cable that 3.5mm to stereo 1/4 jacks. If you need more details you can email me at feedback@tnerdt.com easier that way.

I'm a total newbie when it comes to mixers, but my one question is on the 3.5mm cables going into the laptop; is there a specific sort needed for each, is there a specific aux cable for mic inputs and specific for audio outputs or does any regular auxiliary cable connection work?
@Tnerdt18 жыл бұрын
+Robert Pallin it really depends on what you are going to connect. Some times you may need to us a balanced cable or a mono cable. It really depends on the usage and your audio goals.

Don't have this mixer, but I would think that you would not use Inputs 1-4 (which have built in mic preamps) but rather use one of the other inputs 5-12, because your external pic preamp is sending out a line level signal.

+Wes Hyland I also get low lights on my meter on the mixer. Also in my recording software. What I did to combat clipping was lowered the gain or the volume of the mic. Being below 0db gives you some head room. If you find the recording a little low you can give it a little boost in post and still have good audio with no clips.
