The Tamil Nadu Irrigated Agriculture Modernization Project (TNIAMP) is a World Bank funded project aimed at improving the productivity and profitability of irrigated agriculture in Tamil Nadu, India. TNIAMP aims to increase the income and livelihoods of farmers, particularly small and marginal farmers, and contribute to the sustainable development of agriculture in Tamil Nadu. In order to achieve this, the project envisages the promotion of Farmer Producer Companies (or FPCs) in select river basins of Tamil Nadu which includes the formation, nurturing, strengthening, handholding, and business promotion of FPCs. Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) have the potential to empower small and marginal farmers by providing them with collective bargaining power, market linkages, and access to finance and technology. FPCs also help reduce input costs, increase productivity, and ensure better prices for farmers' produce. They promote sustainable agricultural practices and contribute to rural development, poverty reduction, and food security. As a consulting firm, National Agro Foundation (or NAF) is supporting 26 FPCs in 18 sub basins covering 20 districts of Tamil Nadu in Phase-1 of the project.
