There is actually an entire small Technical Minecraft community around this. They build "War Gears". Basically huge Buildings with lots of different TNT Cannons. Then they shot each other robots with the cannons and who ever gets destroyed first loses. There are a lot of different concepts for cannons and a lot of different rules for the different communities. I am from Germany and I have only been active in some small German communities, but maybe there are some English communities as well. @iNxah Жыл бұрын
This is a really cool concept that I believe was originally used for minecraft factions. We called them "Tunnelers" because of their unique property of exploding right after one another. Using what we in the factions cannoner community call "fraction ticks" you are actually able to make a really simple version of this, al you need is 4 repeaters one after the other, into some dispensers, and more dispensers that actually fire the projectile. In terms of it bending, that has to do with how the tnt is aligned, when it is dispensed, it dispenses on the opposite side of the block from the dispenser, however with a piston, you can align it however you want, and if you have the gameticks in the right order, you can make something that will just blow out an entire sheet in a single shot. Overall this is a really cool video, and I love that this is something being investigated outside of the factions community

wiring 2 dispensers with different redstone components (comparators and repeaters) also makes this effect as in minecraft's ooe (order of entities) repeaters are calculated first, which makes something similar. people have been using this technique to make cannons in the past (tunnelers, nukes, aps etc), from what i've tested it still works in the new versions of minecraft, you just need to wire the power with repeaters, and the shot with comparators, every dispenser in the power is gonna have priority over the shot, then its gonna calculate its velocity and after that the shot's explosion. and about the 11:07 part, lining 2 tnt entities diagonally and placing one above the other on a non-full block (such as stairs, chains, walls, trapdoors, chests and others) altough their uses may vary, and some may be able to shoot farther than others, the way the position of the tnt is calculated depends on its position to the explosion, if placed diagonally, it's first gonna calculate the y axis, until it hits a block, then after either the x or z value after hitting a block (depends on the orientation) and then its gonna shoot into the wall, forming kind of a triangle hypotenuse or something like that (this is used in almost all modern factions cannons) this applies to any falling entitiy (anvils, sand, concrete, gravel, i haven't tested yet but maybe scafolding works)

subtick or eventdelay is more common
@cubicmetre Жыл бұрын
I learned quantum mechanics before I knew anything about Minecrafts subtick mechanics and honestly, it felt exactly the same. The subtick mechanics are just such a fundamental but arbitrary ruleset for how the simulation plays out and when you discover things like why a piston moving a redstone block into a piston takes 3gt to extend the second piston but moving that same block into a repeater has a total delay of 4gt it can often have these moments of just "why?". I tried to interpret subtick mechanics as every component residing in a quantised time state, and these quantised states have special rules for how they can interact much like fundamental fields. For example, you could think of the repeater field being a thing in minecraft and this provides a good analogy to design tilesets in wireless redstone. Because you can imagine this field being processed everywhere in the game at the same time in the tile tick stage, but then there are repeater states that result in symetry breaking of the field giving you access to multiple combinations of subtick repeater chains which define the channels for wireless redstone.

Watch a video behind a faction cannon and you will understand why those tnt floated to the side. 1.8 used to be y-float, E/W float, N/S float, but 1.20.1 is y-float, highest velocity float, idk which version it got changed but at some update they changed it to be like this
@Relmix_ Жыл бұрын
I would like to introduce you to "Factions". there are some people who play that game-mode and find the most nutty things with TNT. Stuff like angle cannons, Wall nukes that destroy entire lines of walls, slab busting and the list goes on. this rail-gun tech has been used before in factions for bases with Large claims or that need precise targeting. There is also a cannon that has 2 rounds of propellant that basically allows you to send tnt through 1 block wide gaps with a second round of propellant slightly offset to launch the round to the target bypassing some walls if you do it from a corner.
@Azaqa Жыл бұрын
The 1 block hole thing wasnt to bypass gaps or anything, the idea was you could put your cannon in a defensible box and shoot at the enemy without them being able to stop you (unless they build their own cannon). Using the idea of "triangling" (basically tnt follows an order in rendering which you can abuse, it calculates Y velocity first and then E/W then N/S) you can give your cannon an adjustable range to shoot at from bedrock to sky limit and a very sizable X/Z range (could be thousands of blocks with enough tnt).

If you want to see some crazy tech you should have seen what the factions cannon building community came up with back in the day. They truly brought tnt to its limits. The left shooting tnt you had brings back memories of the cool direction changing cannons people made
Late comment, but I've experimented with tnt shotguns in the past and acheiving a planar, scatter, or even controlled lateral bursts in a variety of patterns is fairly simple. The additional information you gave on entity processing order would be critical in determining the final orientation and timing for each element of your desired result. By changing the orientation of your dispensers (or in this case the spawn location of your command blocks) in combination with a variety of off-setting blocks like fences, open trap doors, chains, or other partial collision blocks, your tnt can be variably offset in relation to your firing charge. This is going to give the basic firing pattern. Note that the tnt can all reside on the same block, but still be offset enough to give a scatter pattern. You will have to remove any obstructing blocks at the front of your cannon to accommodate not only the offset, but also the forward trajectory of any projectiles, otherwise they will all correct to travel in a more uniform direction. If you then place a 1+ tick delay on the generation of secondary charges you can roughly control not only where in the firing order those charges will be dispersed for lateral and vertical secondary explosions, but also at what range those charges will change trajectory. The velocity imparted by the initial firing charge (e.g. using a single tnt to propel versus using 10) will determine the average distance per delay tick at which the lateral charges will change trajectory.

Faction’s cannoners have known this for years. You can left shoot, left shoot and up shoot simotaniously to remove walls with one shot, tunnel up to 80 chunks in one shot, fire 20 tnt per second if you can desink the redstone updates (older versions of mc), and if you check out ‘dragon air bender’ some of us have even done all of these built into one cannon. You can wall remove one plain, or nuke in 4 directions while tunneling meaning you can make a VERY large + in the terrain.

This is a great concept of a tunnel style cannon. Often played on factions as others have mentioned. Tunnelers, as well as stackers, have existed since the Leinarcher days. We are speaking of at minimum a decade of cannons here. If you're looking to learn about cannons, factions (where you typically use a cannon), and their many many many uses, I highly recommend 3 youtubes. F1NN5TER Dexter113 Dragonairbender Listed from least complex, to most complex of cannons. Each approach cannons very differently, and each have probably have 10 years + of cannon knowledge just waiting to be absorbed. There are many many many more people that have tutorials on cannons, and their many uses and builds. However, these 3 have taken the most time out of their lives to make it easier for others imo. The types of Cannons you'll eventually search for. Tunneller Stacker/Hybrid Reverse Nuker Fusion Pseudo Nuke Efficiency Nuke Each one playing on the multiple possible tick rate combinations within the cannon and its many parts.

The analogy of subtick mechanics as the quantum mechanics of Minecraft is rather interesting in terms of parallels with real life. I just had a random shower thought: If you were the player, could the subtick mechanics be figured out in depth without looking in the code, but simply by playing? Can we in real life, ever figure out a fundamental theory in physics that provides a description of the physical properties of nature like quantum mechanics tries? In the video, the order of subtick mechanics could be observed. And observing is the key word. When you play Minecraft you are observing from outside the simulation. Observing from inside the simulation, like observing nature in real life as yourself, you would have to be the player in Minecraft. And the player would not be able to differentiate through mere observation the order of subticks mechanics, because the player receives information of the world around them every tick. The player would make up rules, like how dispensers can get powered through a block that is getting moved by a piston but replace the dispenser with a piston and it no longer triggers (3:34). The player would know how it works but not why it works. Similarly, in real life, we know how gravity works but not why gravity works. I don't know enough about Minecraft or the real world so this is comment is probably filled with holes and therefore invalid. But if this isn't, doesn't it leave one question? If Minecraft is a simulation, are we in a simulation?
@cubicmetre Жыл бұрын
We can easily prove that minecraft is a simulation due to floating point errors and out of memory errors, such errors don't seem to exist in the real world.

@@cubicmetre ahh, yh forgot about that. Though maybe simulation is being improved just slightly beyond what we are able to measure but that is just rather circular. What do you think about the first question: If you were the player, would you ever be able to figure out the subtick mechanics by only 'playing'?

i once made a cannon with a friend that used tnt at the top and the back to get it to the front in time and it also had a section underneath with bubble collums for even more tnt i could shoot so far we had to place cobwebs in front of it to be able to measure its power, it could shoot through over 3000 layers of cobwebs. when not placing the cobwebs it went around 40k-50k blocks before exploding in the air

We called these Tunnel cannons back in the days when factions were popular. Some Tunnelers could make 1000 block tunnels and blow through water in just a single shot. Also, you noticed that your cannon shot sideways and cannons that specialize in just that have been around for many years now

5:55 Interesting, I am not sure if I am wrong, but from my experimentation & reading the game code, a chest consists of a Block, a TE, and a TESR. The Block is used to store the fact that a chest is there as well as hitboxes, the TE stores the contents, and the TESR renders the chest (since a chest has animations). TE = Tile Entity in MCP, Block Entity in Yarn and MojMap. TESR = Tile Entity Special Renderer in MCP below version 1.13, Tile Entity Renderer in MCP 1.13+, Yarn, and MojMap. The carpet popup also mentioned TERs, not TEs. I do admit that I am not really that experienced with technical minecraft and am just a mod developer :P

All the cannon technology was discovered years ago. You can accomplish the same thing by running 1 repeaters at 2 ticks for the propellant, and 2 repeaters at 1 tick each for the projectile.
