I honestly don't blame Melanie for revealing the truth, actually I support it. For it has not only been stated that the track to the horn of Africa wasn't sound, it was literally impossible to navigate without ending up derailing, and if it wasn't actually habitable then the rest of humanity would have died for some false hope when the train finally derails and everyone freezes to death. Plus, there was never any actual proof that the horn of Africa was habitable (other than the data model). all Layton had was a fever dream as he saw a picture in a calendar when he was freezing to death, and just plain desperation and faith; which was not only useless but can immediately backfire on him due to the terrifying conditions of the Freeze. Plus, Big Alice barely made it to New Eden before derailing, even when it was only around 40+ or 100+ cars long, while Snowpiercer and Big Alice was over 1,034. Snowpiercer would never make it if Melanie haven't made the right call, which makes me love her character ever more, despite the fact that she technically back stabbed Layton, Alex, Ben, and everybody else that wanted a future outside the train, when it is literally the only thing keeping them alive. Plus, it has only been seven years since the world froze over and it is unknown WHEN CW7 started falling from the atmosphere, the planet might've JUST STARTED warming up again at the start of the events that take place in Season 1, and it is still extremely cold on the surface in pretty much the entire world. So the chances for New Eden to actually exist after seven years is highly unlikely, other warm spots could appear in another decade or maybe a half a century. But from what I have seen and could tell so far, Layton was so desperate for a future outside of the train that he will literally believe in a lie that he made up for himself, he even realized and admitted it to himself in season 3. He also seemed really impatient and refused to even hear a word from Melanie. He basically dug his own grave in this scene.

Wholeheartedly agreed. Layton could have said the truth from the beginning and then wait as they make another revolution and monitor the temperatures. Or even when it came to war, he should have stood down. Waiting is the best option instead of risks.

i think she has changed. She's unwilling to enact a lie for the right reasons anymore. It may look different, it may feel more 'right' than the vision she had in s1 but its kinda the same. Its lying to people for their own good, believing that you're a god with all the answers and the sole responsibility. She's trying to give power back to people in a more real way than Layton is. The problem is they are just hoping with no real expectation- she's a scientist and realist at heart- which is what overrode her morals to pretend to be Mr Wilford in the first place.

@@razmataz13drums I think she's the most consistent character of all. She always sacrificed a part of her for the train and the people. She's not trying to give the people back their power, she's trying to use them to weak Layton. Layton is a fighter and a dreamer, his worry is to change the world today, but he has no idea how to survive tomorrow. If the data was consistent she wouldnt spill the truth but it was flipping a coin with the survival of the human race.

Not really, Melanie tried to speak to Layton about it first but he refused to be open minded about it, he made it clear to her that he wouldn’t listen to whatever she had to say no matter what it may have been, if she didn’t expose his lie, than Snowpiercer would have derailed on the path to new eden since Big Alice barely made it so there’s no way Snowpiercer would’ve made it In a way, Melanie saved everyone by causing the situation that led to the best outcome

They found a good solution to the situation. And they were BOTH right in the end: New Eden really IS habitable but the track was so bad that it derailed Big Alice just getting there.
