I got mine out at 18 because I was getting strep multiple times a year and was suffering. 7 days post op, post-tonsillectomy hemorrhage with a recauterization surgery, 3 day inpatient stay, and IV antibiotics due to fever and infection before the surgery. Even with all of that, I was incredibly glad I got it done and my quality of life is so much better

Had mine out at 27… took over a month to recover. My ENT had been in practice over 40 years and my tonsils were about the worst he’d seen. He told me that when he started cutting, that all this green, yellow, and white cottage cheese stuff came out. And that the smell almost knocked out everyone in the OR. Still not sure if I felt proud or embarrassed. 😂

I just had my tonsils removed 9/14/22. I am 25 and I will say this. I was NOT expecting the pain that came with it. I am on day 7 now and am FINALLY able to eat/drink without being in excruciating pain. I have went though almost my entire prescription of pain meds (40) Narco 7.5’s. I had recurring tonsillitis ( 6-7 times a year) since I was 15. I could never get a doctor to refer me to an ENT until this year. It was my first surgery and the fear of getting it done was pretty bad. GET IT DONE AS A CHILD, or get your children’s taken out while they’re young. Trust me, they’ll thank you.

I've heard very mixed results online from months recovery to A year or being fine within 1 month. I have sleep apnea and very large tonsils that fill about half my mouth that effect my breathing. At the same time chronic illness they likley help fight makes it difficult and I have A surgery fear.

I’m on day 6 and it’s been an absolute HELL. The first 3 days were manageable, my tongue and uvula were really swollen, so that was uncomfortable, but I was thinking that it’s still ok. Boy, I was wrong. Day 4,5,6 were an ABSOLUTE torture. I cannot sleep, drink water, eat (not even a broth). The pain meds made me really sick one day, so ended up throwing up (since I had only a coconut water in my stomach, I didn’t have much to get out), so I started to take only half of dosage. I haven’t eaten in 7 days, except 2 bowls of a broth and 3 fruit packs and I’m now only 99lbs (I’m 32yo woman). The last 2 days I was literally crying from pain. I also cannot really talk, as it’s so painful. I’ve had multiple surgeries done before and different types of accidents and NOTHING compares to this. I just hope that I’ll turn a corner soon 🙏 and I keep telling myself that once done with this, I’ll not get sick again with tonsillitis and my quality of life will improve. That being said, if you do have recurring tonsillitis, get it done asap. I wish I did it 15 years ago! Sooner the better!!!

Just got my tonsils removed today and currently recovering. I had them removed because since I was recently diagnosed with mild sleep apnea, part of it is caused by my enlarged tonsils blocking the airway in my throat. Little over a week into mine and its honestly the worst thing ive had done, my c section doesnt compare lol. We just got my pain management under control after an er trip day 5 for not being able to swallow and looking at dehydration. The under side of the tongue does hurt and the referred ear pain with the burning in the throat hurts alot but with a combo of a narcotic, ibuprofen/tylenol, a steriod and a lidocaine gargle for the swelling, its helped atleast get liquids down though i can say havent really gotten to eat. Just keep reminding self no more recurrent strep, no more rounds of antibiotics for months of strep 🤞🤞

At the moment, when I arrived to hospital I went to emergency room, I don't know what happened next, because I passed out. They done urgent operation. I was in hospital again for 3 days. The strongest pain for me was at night and must admit that I can’t even describe the pain after day 4. Now is getting better and I’m still recovering. So the issue is that whnever i eat something even mildly sour or sweet. Such as. Any fruit. Strawberries for u example. Or even if i hace yougurt or milk. Anything that kinda stays in the mouth and sticks to them. They start to hurt a lilttle as if theye provoked. And if i dont have something right after such as a piece of bread. And it stays in my throat. Then they start hurting and getting inflammed a little bit which causes discomfort. I am really confused what i should do. I am 23 turning 24. But I made a huge turn on day 4 and since then, it's just like having a bad sore throat. Today I've been able to eat pancakes and things. My scabs have no yet fallen off, but I think I'm past the worst of it.

Just got my tonsils removed 7h hours ago to check if i have lymphoma or just a wierd form of asymptomatic chronic tonsillitis. They took em out because they got a very high score (more than double than my swollen lymphnodes) at the PET-scan and would provide the best probes. Things said, im scared as hell. I hope that everyone here is gonna feel better soon.

Has anybody had problems with their tongue? It's day 9 and from the beginning I've had more pain on my tongue (side, close to the back) than in my throat... There's a red-gray spot. I can swallow quite easily now but I can't talk or chew at all.. Doctors said it is normal but I find it absolutely annoying and have no clue of how long it will take to heal.

I’m 23, I’ve had reoccurring infections including a 5 month stint of continuous med resistant infections, and had mine taken out 4 days ago after fighting with doctors for 12 years, ended up back in the ER after 24 hours for emergency surgery after vomiting straight blood for an hour. It’s incredible hard to keep pain meds down when you basically drown trying to eat apple sauce. Empty stomach + strong meds = puke and you WILL dislodge your clots and bleed. I’ve broken my sternum and I can say with confidence that tonsillectomy recover is 10x more excruciating than that was. If you have to get them out, do it ASAP. If you don’t need them out, DONT DO IT.

So unfortunately I figured this out too late in life… I was in a stage where modern medicine never steered me wrong, so I had my tonsils removed at age 22. Symptoms continued & I learned years later the truth about my health. Now at 28 I am studying to be a physician assistant and am searching to get tonsils put back in. I believe medicine has evolved so much - heart transplants, cornea transplants, etc. I am to figure this out for those “food stamp” babies like me who did as their told bc “Dr knows best” and truly believing it is the right thing… would you happen to know anyone willing to help? I’m 100% willing to be a part of a new generation and to truly guide others to true health and healing. Every part of your body has a purpose and you are made to heal in the right environment and with the right lifestyle.

@@Calibyruben Most of the population has had their tonsils or adenoids taken out. I guess God had no idea what he was doing? It's preposterous! These organs were meant to keep us healthy. This could be one of the reasons so many people are sick.

We all have gallbladders for a reason as well, but in some cases keeping them in can kill. God didn't create us incorrectly, sin causes the body and the world to operate against His will for us. And we sin of our own will. That is why repenting of your sin (the same way me and the rest of the would should as well) and placing your faith in Christ is so important. Stepping into relationship with God is the most important thing we can do in this life.
