so a killer baymax is what I got from the story, that guy was very lazy in teaching George anything but I guess it could be interrupt how parents today just put their kids in front of tv and other electronic devices instead of actually teaching them.

This story is not just a horror story, it does have a meaning behind. The robot became a murderer after watching TV, the war, cruelty, etc. This is exactly what people watch on TV every day. All news are about negativity, religion is brainwashing people with what is right, what is wrong. The robot represents our humanity in some way, so to speak.
@LostArchivist4 жыл бұрын
That is rather a hateful and overly-simplistic way to put that.
@TheNumnutRandomness9 жыл бұрын
So I guess Sesame Street doesn't exist in this world? Or PBS kids? Scientist never thought to tell George that it would never have to kill? Why do proto-robots always go bad, are none of them installed with the Three Law of Robotics? Why did the company think that letting the scientist, who probably wouldn't be able to constantly supervise this multi-million robot, look after this thing would be a good idea? Did this guy never consult his very pregnant wife about bringing his science project along? I wanted to believe that this story wouldn't go down this very tired route, but robot horror stories can never _not_ have killer robots now can they? I did like how it was written and narrated, the narrator being a tech journalist was a nice touch.

@TheNumnutRandomness9 жыл бұрын
1) A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. 2) A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the 1st Law. 3) A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the 1st or 2nd Law.

Also, I don't think machines have the capability to make the kinds of jumps that George makes. I've seen some videos of Asimo "learning" and man, he's got decades, if not centuries, to go before he can jump to these kinds of conclusions.

The story was very good and I do like how it showed many warning signs about the robot would react and how it was going off the rails. The consistancy of mind was very good for the robot as well. I do wish people would stop buying into senseless strawman arguments about scapegoating religion, but not going to blame the author for the reaction of the audience. A final scene of the man holding his still living child at a later point and learning from the event or something to that effect, I feel would have improved the character arc for the scientist. Great pacing and excellent voice-over and the characters were all distinct and had personality. 9/10

To give a robot understanding and not teach it properly is not a good idea.
@Piledriver869 жыл бұрын
+shaun griffin Its impossible to teach a robot "properly", humans only gain proper perspective and understanding of the world becuase we grow up in it and develop slowly over several decades. A robot is born a blank slate in an adult body, and would most likely not have the same type of mind as we do, making it difficult to give it a real understanding of things.

+Henrik Magnusson Teaching it the Scientific Method as soon as possible would help it to distinguish between fantasy and reality. But to be honest I'm just going to assume the AI would come to the conclusion that all of human life would need to be eliminated. AI is some freaky shit.
@HomerDinasty9 жыл бұрын
+Henrik Magnusson Perhaps, but in all honesty "teaching" it by sitting him in front of the TV was just stupid. You develop an AI and you send it on a vacation with the supervision of a single person? Bad idea, this person also needs to care for his pregnant wife? Even worse idea. Then this idiot decides to raise it with TV? What an imbecile. In all honesty, he deserves to have had his kid and wife taken away, he was definitely not apt to be parent.

Ok, the head scientist was a complete fool. They should've installed the three robot laws into George from the get go. Always have safety measures or backup plans, no matter what. That's just common sense. Plus, they should let someone with parent experience. George was essentially a child at this point. The head scientist had no parenting experience, if he had any he would've taught the robot much better between right and wrong. Hell, they should have given treated the robot like a child and gave it basic education from elementary to high school. So many mistakes were made. Which have cost them very dearly. I hate to say this.....but the guy was reaping what he sow. I know that a cold thing to say. But it is, what it is.

Is this like a walking dead type of world? No stories of robots? No Isaac Asimov? I think there would always be a subroutine of the 3 Law of Robotics. Either way cools story. I like the justification at the end for his actions. Very much like Pygmalion, the Golem, or Frankenstein. Turning the ear on the more family friendly robots, while still making the family friendly initially. Chappie or Johnny Five but darker.
