Thanks B Ryan on a thorough demo on a product category that many of us, especially newer DIY would be curious to know about and if it would be a viable option for their ever growing gear checklist. I would actually have to get in one and see if I would get to clostrophobic or not. I could see that being handy for certain situations that you mentioned especially if you are in the High Country amongst where the Bighorn Rams 🐏, Mountain 🏔 Goats 🐐 or early archery 🏹 mule deer 🦌 would be and not want to go back down the mountain if you are amongst them. This vs a tarp and hammock set up?

I use the same Bivy and love it. I use the sea to summit Light R left and rolled in with stakes. I am looking for a larger sack to accommodate my sleeping bag and insulator if it gets colder. But just the Bivy and sleeping pad fit perfect within the OR bag.

Every time I see these guys packing in a huge tent with a stove and all I just wonder what they could accomplish with a bivy and true lightweight gear. You can hunt run and gun and move with the animals rather than waiting for then to show up. I have a lightweight 2p tent at the moment that I carry with me every day, but as soon as the wife lets me... I'll be carrying one of these. Thanks for the vid!

What you are hearing is the sleeping pad. It's a Therm-a-Rest NeoAir Xlite. It's a really good pad but the material has a crinkle sound to it. The bivy itself is not nearly that loud. It actually has a nice feel to it. Hope that helps!

@GOHUNT And you say that you have had NO issues with breathability? I slept in an REI branded bivy a few times and it was difficult to breathe in. Granted.. it's structure didn't have what your bivy has in that if this "half dome-like" near the head, but the one I slept in also had two separate zipper layers( a solid and then the big mesh). It was easy to breathe with just the mesh zipped closed, but I was concerned with becoming soaked with rain on one particular night if I didn't have both layers zippered. Have you run into any of these issues or concerns with your bivy? Yours looks better designed than the one I used..

@GOHUNT
@GOHUNT 4 жыл бұрын
It can handle just about any type of weather. It's just not going to be has comfortable as a tent. Very small restricted space compared to a tent. What a lot of guys do is also bring a light tarp to pair with the bivy just in case of bad storms you have some added shelter.

go for the gortex, better breathability.. if its a one nighter go lighter as you ain't arsed if you get a little damp.. mind you, if you know its gonna be sunny the following day then you can dry out your bivi and sleep system in the sun. for me, all depends on how long you plan to stay out...

As long as you don't have a sensitive ass puncturable inflatable pad you can put it under. I have always put my iso mat under my USGI bivy live I was taught in the Marines. I currently use a Thermarest Ridgecrest classic and still use a USGI but had to replace mine and the market is flooded with knockoffs and back orders now.

I don't get the appeal of a bivy. It looks like sleeping in a coffin to me. And it offers no privacy at all unless you are lying down. I'd love to hear how people who use bivys deal with these issues.

It is, and that's entirely why I love it. It's a place to sleep. Low profile, light weight. What privacy do you need, you're camping? It's you and nature. If anything, I love how much more close to nature I feel
