Old Classic Car

Күн бұрын

We're off to the Capesthorne Hall Classic Car Show 2024 in the 1950 Ford V8 Pilot in today's Old Classic Car upload, the longest trip we'd done in it by that point. As we were in what I'd term a properly old car, we also drove it into the arena for the pre-1960 section (we often attend in our MX5).
As always, there was a broad mix of cars at this Capesthorne Hall classic car event, and as always I've tried to feature a bit of everything while concentrating mainly on the older cars, the focus of this channel.
Mercedes-Benz was the featured marque this time and there were plenty in attendance, including a number of classic examples.
Highlights this time around at Capesthorne Hall in 2024 included a great Citroen Ami 6, Ford Consul Mk1, pre-fin era Cadillac Fleetwood, Vauxhall VX4/90, Chevrolet Corvair camper van, and an eye-catching BMW E3 3.3Li saloon.
All in all a great day out, made all the better by being in our old Ford.
Comments and likes welcomed as always please, and also consider subscribing (no cost involved) if you'd like to follow the channel and be notified of future uploads like this.

Anther great video Rick. Very professional and well commentated. I'm also very impressed with your growth of knowledge (and accuracy) of the American makes that were present. There seems to a growing following in the UK for cars as you say "from across the pond". We see these all the time in NZ at car shows now so it is great to see all the UK stuff that was once staple here that has all but disappeared.

Another great, and very informative, vid. You showed so many fantastic examples of some very rare cars. That Toyota Crown was exceptional along with the Ami 6, VX 4/90, MK 2 3.8…..the list goes on ! I’m glad the commentator gave you a well deserved mention, your efforts are much appreciated. 👍

Without doubt one of the best cars I have ever owned was a 1973 BMW E9 saloon second only to the 2002Ti I had prior to it. The Jowett is a gem. Great video.

Hello Richard. Can't just pick one favourite but that M.G was immaculate . I really like the early Camero's and that Firebird is one of my favourites along with the purple Plymouth Barracuda (?) You definitely get cars we never see in the S.West . And l must mention A.C Acea , the provenance was wonderful . As always thankyou Richard .....lnternational Super Star 😅

My first car was a 2 door 1969 Vauxhall HB Viva which I had a great time with. Is was cool seeing the 4 door version in the line up at Capesthorne Hall. My takeaway car would have to be the lovely Bentley made more gorgeous by that magnificent shade of blue paint - very regal indeed.

Seeing the sit up and beg Pop brought back memories! I was 16 and decided to try out hitch hiking. I thought that the 20 mile journey from Hexham to Newcastle would be a good start. I walked out of the town for a mile or two and stuck my thumb out. A black Popular pulled up after only a few minutes driven by quite a young man. We ended up doing very un-Popular like speeds - nearly cornering on the door handles! The driver said that the engine was full of Aquaplane's finest tuning bits with an I think alloy head, twin SUs which had turned it into a bit of a flyer. Sadly the suspension and brakes remained standard and my first hitching expedition lasted only three miles as I was terrified and begged to be dropped off. I got the safer option of a train back home wondering if that hot Pop ended stuffed into a tree!

The "Corvair van with added windows" is actually a Chevrolet Greebrier estate car. The cargo vans had panel sides and just a single bench seat in front and were badged as the Corvair 95. Greenbiers had additional bench seating in the rear for passengers. I used to own a 95 though mine had windows in the right side doors, It was either a US Army or Bell System telephone company van as it was originally olive drab but had been repainted blue at some point.

I had a Dodge A100 cargo van. Mine was a 66. It had a three on the tree, and a 273 v8. It was a great sleeper. rust brown, not rusty, just rust colored paint. I had a friend who borrowed it to move. He was just raving when he came back with it. He called it THE POWER VAN from then on. lol

So classy, thanks once again. I liked the Marcos, my friend's dad had one and I've only seen one other here in The States. They were all cars that could follow me home any time.

When it comes to American cars I'm partial to the 1950 Ford Vicky delux featuring the flathead v8. Not crazy about 6 volt but that car was quite attractive in its day. As far as British cars go I'm partial to a prewar Bentley touring car say 1936..Beautiful coach work and dash. Leather seats are always a plus. Do like the postwar Jaguar XK 120 again exceptional lines. Brass fuel lines and brass radiators are a plus. Fascinated by side draft carburetors. The TR3 is the first car I saw had them. Domed glass basels on the gauges I always thought unique. I like white face guages with black numbers. Early vehicle radios are also interesting. VW had Blaupunct and Saphire . American radios were Delco. What brands do British cars have ?

Radios in old Brit cars tend to be by Ekco, His Master's Voice, Phillips, Radiomobile, Motorola for example

Great video much enjoyment. Is the V8 pilot engine similar to a Ford 60? I know the British versions were smaller the standard US version.

Thanks, I think it is based on the Model 62 of the mid 1930s, initially it was meant to have a smallish (2.2 litre) V8 unit but that was a bit underpowered so most Pilots (like ours) have the 3.6 litre unit, not sure what the cubic inch number is for that.
