A Meadow Vole has taken a liking to my ink pens. So during a restful morning in the cabin a plan is devised.

Wow what a fat vole. We have them here in Mississippi but the ones I see are at least three times slimmer. Our cat takes care of them. Have moles also and have tried everything to get rid of them. Wish they would stay in the woods and not in my yard. Sure makes it hard to walk around for an old 80 year lady who could fall from the uneven ground. Guess we just have to live with the good and bad things in life that come our way. The snow looks so beautiful. God bless you and Vonnie. From deep southeast Mississippi.

Do you like blueberry pancakes, Martin? One of my late grandmother's relatives, Aunt Eva, used to make the best blueberry pancakes. Aunt Eva used to make them for the loggers in Michigan many, many years ago. As kids, my parents and brothers used to visit her, and she would always have blueberry pancakes ready. 😋👍👌

This is funny S---tuff....We have oodles of voles, and our Cats over the year Bless us with abundant contributions to herd nutrition....one for me----2 for you. I have had fresh Ruff Grouse for breakfast, I tend to pass on the Pine Squirrels, Deer mice, Short tail weasels, Flying Squirrels (Sometimes even Dead) and lots of Meadow Voles, and other assorted nutritional goodies. But of all the critters introduced, Voles tend to be the lest likely to survive for long indoors. Very interesting. Thanks.

I have caught some live in a bucket and they were always friendly and they never were scared. I gave them water and grass because I was going to take them away from my house. They would eat the grass but after a few hours they would always die. I never did understand but they must not like being captive.
@aloberdorf4579
@aloberdorf4579 6 ай бұрын
Shrews are similar in that way, but I suspect they die from lack of nutrition, as the metabolic rates are so high that the must eat nearly constantly, and their life cycle is very short I believe.@@misterz2719

I have heard of hustlers keeping a shrew in their pocket and bragging about how mean and tough they are. Someone finds a mouse or vole and put them in a bucket with the shrew and bets are made while a few beers go down. Soon the only survivor is the tiny shrew and the hustlers walks away with his profits.

And too the Victor goes the nutrition. Years ago, my Dad trapped a large Marten. As we approached the set, a Shrew scampered off into a snow tunnel. When he picked up the Marten (not Martin)....all there was, was hair and mostly bones. The little guy burrowed in and ate most of the Marten. A very incredible feat.@@TheNorthwoodsman1

Martin bait your traps with juicy fruit chewing gum. They will eat it and it will eliminate them. Just find out where they are nesting first you will want to know that. Cause come the heat of the summer you will have a unpleasant smell if you know what I mean. If you know where their holes are you can drop the gum in the holes they will find them

Love you channel. One thing I am a bit concerned with is if your cabin went on fire. I wonder should you have a little wood stove in a closed in area of a woodshed. If you ran out in a cold night with no place to go you might find yourself in a pickle. You are a long ways from your Vechicle and you may not be dressed for the walk out. Your cabin was there for a long time and I know most likely it won't happen because you have a great system and you know what you are doing but things have a strange way of happening. Take care and keep them great videos coming.

On my little acre i have moles, and had never heard of voles until a few years ago.i has planted tomato vines, something pulled them down under the ground, not leaving one leaf!! Did the same with a start of a snowball bush, whatever the name is. Don't really know if it was a mole or vole,or the other little animal, gopher. But i was on my riding lawnmower in my back yard,had put couple keys in the little drink holder. After while i hunted for my keys,thet were gone! Looked all around in my yard the area I'd been over, time and again!! I called my neighbor to borrow his metal detector,he brought it and used it himself. After awhile he hit on something,dug around in the dirt,there was my keys!! So keys had bounced out of the mower,an underground critter had ran to them and dug dirt over them!! Guess he thought it was food or some valuable treasure!! Neighbor said if he hadn't used the metal detector, probably never would have found the keys and been puzzled over whatever happened to them!! Had NO idea, even thought of such a deal!!

HEY THERE MARTIN. GOT A QUESTION, I SEE THE PEPANE TANK, NEXT TO THE STOVE, HAS A COVER AROUND IT? WHAT IS THE REASON FOR IT?? NOW WHY I'M ASKING IS BECAUSE, I HAVE TWO PROTANE TANKS OUTSIDE, ON A DUAL REGULATOR THAT I USE TO COOK ON MY, GAS STOVE & DRYER. WELL, WHEN IT GET COLD OUT. (FL.) I GET & HAVE SOME FREEZEING NIGHTS, 29*, 30*, 32* DEGREES. SO, WHEN I USE THE STOVE & TURN ON THE BURNER, IT TAKES A FEW SECONDS & THE FLAME *BLASTS ON*?? SO, WAS WONDERING IF THE COLD IS AFFECTING THE TANKS OUTSIDE????? I DON'T RECALL THIS HAPPENING IN THE WARM WEATHER. SO, IS THAT WHY YOU HAVE YOUR PROPANE TANK, COVERED?? LOVE HOW, CERTAIN BIRD THAT FLY TO YOUR HAND , STOP, THEN LOOK AT YOU & TAKE THE FOOD. SO COOL!!! Do take care. Fl
