Could the lack of deer be due to the wolves on your trail cameras?
@TheNorthwoodsman113 сағат бұрын
It all had to do with such a mild winter that the deer stayed out in the farm country 30 miles to the east. Plenty of deer out there.

Sure great to see cabin videos with all the hate and ignorance going on in our country right now! It cleanses the mind and puts us at peace. I was going to contact you about needing help up at your cabin. Would have definitely lent a hand but I had to use my vacation to visit my elderly mom in Texas. Would love to be in on the experience building that.

Chickadees are an easy one to tame. Just stand closer to the bird feeder all the time and then start putting your hand out. Some make a dummy in a chair and then after a few days put on the same clothes and sit down with seed.

Martin, when I watch I often turn on my Merlin app so I can identify the birds.. I thought the last call from the flicker was actually a Pileated wood pecker but the app said flicker. The app also called the yellow flicker a northern flicker. Do they have different calls? Also, what bird was making the last calls right as the video ended? The app couldn't identify it.
@TheNorthwoodsman1Күн бұрын
I think it was Red Breasted Nuthatches and a Blue Jay at the end. In the spring the flicker uses a call like the Pileated. Flicker full names have been updated over the years, I can't keep up.

Confused with comments about no whitetail deer over wintered in your area. Do the deer naturally migrate south or are the numbers of deer dropping. Your area definitely has an established wolf population, unsure if your videos suggest a balance between deer herd size and wolf population. Been watching your videos since the beginning and your videos suggest wolf population has increased in northern Minnesota. Be safe out there that's one big bear
@TheNorthwoodsman1Күн бұрын
The deer sometimes live in my forested area but for the most part live 30 miles east in farm country. Heavy snow early in the winter pushes them into my area for the cedar browse. Wolves follow then around somewhat. I feel the wolves are about the same in my area.
