Nice to see the horses. I am a lapsed catholic convert, need to get things set right. I live alone in a tiny home and farm and log with draft horses, my Gentle Giants. I do a lot of thinking about things, and this video also gives me much to ponder. If I lived close by I would volunteer my horses and my time to help them with the farming side. If the sisters could say a little prayer for me I would appreciate it.

I was thinking only the other day how I wish more people were building with love, faith and devotion as their guides, rather than money, convenience and greed. How wonderful places would look. Then I found this by chance today. God bless all involved. I would love to visit one day. 🙏🏻

This project has touched my heart! I am a new catholic convert and I say yes to building a catholic structure that will last many lifetimes - Truth goodness and beauty in a building! I am in tears, but of joy, to see something like this being built in a chaotic world! God bless the Carmelite sisters! Santa Teresa de Avila las guía desde el cielo!

This is how I wish we would go back to building our homes as well. I hope this inspires more return to authenticity, durability, beauty in the details
@Peter-v9l

It used to be that everyone possessed building skills and would build their own homes from their own sourced materials. Problem is that most people can't even replace a breaker in their homes so you can forget laying stone. I work in the Carpentry industry along with traditional timber framers and joiners. I can assure you that the average person cannot afford the cost of a 10x12 timber-framed shed let alone an entire house! Materials if not privately milled are very costly, and building codes make it near impossible to use your own milled wood without engineered stamps, which is nothing other than a bar code (part of the system, taxed) unless your amish, somehow the amish can get away with anything building wise, they can even build multiple homes on one property while the rest of us are limited to one home and one guest house below 430sq.ft on each parcel of land, that is unless you're a politician because then you're free to do whatever you please. Just tweak the law temporarily. In the worst case they get a slap on the wrist. I recycled a 12x12 shed once on another lot after we disassembled it at our clients property, to my surprise a bylaw official was on me before I could sheath the roof and close in the walls. Take it down or pay the fine $25,000. I was building it in the country on a lot that had farmland surrounding it on all sides. Not effecting a single soul. Literally 10 days later the laws in our province changed and 12x12 was now the official new maximum outbuilding size that didn't require a permit. Knowing that the bylaw enforcement could have just turned a blind eye considering I really needed a shed. By that time I had already sold the woodwork and that was that. Moral of the story even if everyone had the skill to build this type of structure, bylaw enforcement and local cbo's hate dealing with structures that aren't typical or they don't see everyday. Worse over they're almost always an atheist so building a church out of stone and joinery would be a miracle in itself in Canada. We have to fight with them all the time, they are very difficult people to work with, especially in small towns. I think it's because a cbo has the sworn authority to dictate laws, and because they are usually just one individual especially in small rural towns, they become power hungry and unkind. Usually they have less practical knowledge than the builders themselves on product specs and building practices that actually work in reality not in their books and so they get a lot of negative resistance from contractors that are already overworked and underpaid and just want to get the job done without hurdles, especially silly ones written by an office worker who has never swung a hammer in their life. I once worked as a painter, in order to work on military based buildings (interior painting) I had to wear a hard hat, reflective vest, and steel toed boots. Painting is already hot enough from the humidity build up on the walls and crouching with steel toed boots was very hard on our legs, and the reflective vest was always in the way, what was all of this for? Who do you think made these rules? People that have never worked in the trades, they just assume that we need reflective clothing in an indoor bedroom because of the risk of not being seen by no one. Building lasting structures would require everyone to do it, by themselves. Not enough skilled hands out there more over not enough skilled hands that are also willing to deal with the political side of the builds. I would do it though, my own contractors would too, we're considered a bit rebellious in our area, all of our jobs are done different. We tackle challenges and we love it!!!!

The power of whole-hearted, loving dedication to serving Jesus, to be being clear in one's divine purpose, persistent in carrying it out, and the power of architecture and sacred labor, all that and more demonstrated here. The nuns prayerful, loving focus of pray creates the chalice for the Lord to express and reach out far beyond them. Beautiful.

St. Paul: "I have planted, Apollo watered, but God gave the increase. Therefore, neither he that planteth is any thing, nor he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. Now he that planteth, and he that watereth, are one. And every man shall receive his own reward, according to his own labour. For we are God's coadjutors: you are God's husbandry; you are God's building. According to the grace of God that is given to me, as a wise architect, I have laid the foundation; and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. For other foundation no man can lay, but that which is laid; which is Christ Jesus." (I Cor. 3:6-11).

We tend to forget how the sacred spaces change us... that is why many of our catholic spaces have turned utilitarian and ugly and frankly, even disposable. Beauty and authenticity should be everywhere, not just in a chapel. I love this sacred geography!! :)

So, at this moment in history, we have artificial intelligence, quantum computers, CRISPER Gene-Editing, the James Webb Space Telescope, etc...; but we can no longer construct a Monastery building from stone?! 😂 Thank you, blessed Sistets, firstly, for having sacrificed your lives for Christ and His Mystical Body; and secondly, for your steadfast dedication to constructing a true Monastery, made only of stone and wood - to serve as both a sign of, and inspiration toward, that spiritual stability that comes from a life of prayer and work, in the silent, hidden life of the cloister. God Bless You!!!❤

This video expresses well the universal relationship between architecture and the quality of life of the humans who occupy it. Unfortunately, that genius then seems to turn immediately into a Pennsylvania Dutch/Amish way of life. Nice enough, for sure, but does not speak to most of us today. (But I'll bet those Pennsylvania Dutch/Amish nuns have exchanged horses and buggies for modern vehicles.)
