In the 50's when I was bearing children, the hospital required that the mother be shaved completely in the pubic area. I hated it; it left my skin tender, and as the hair began to grow out again it was constantly irritated by underclothes etc. Once it grew again, I would never again have shaved myself. In later years I did trim the hair shorter for easier grooming, but that was all.

Yeah even in the 70s when I had my kid. My delivery doc was so pissed because they hadn't done it. I had to have a forceps delivery and both the baby and I were very close to death from preeclampsia. My pressure was shy high and they were calling it out as they struggled. But anyway they had to soap me and shave first! I was in the hospital this time for almost a week. They gave me phenobarbital to relax me but it was a nightmare. She had 3 kids all C-section. Almost lost her and my first grandson because they waited too long. None of us women from Mom to me to my girl were built well for natural. And I only weighed less than 6lbs. Idk if they shaved my kid the first time. They were pushing her for natural and she could NOT do it. After that she chose the birthdays.😳👶🏼

I am a retired nurse and I remember taking care of one patient early in my career who was in the hospital in an isolation room because of a horrendous staph infection. She had shaved her full pubic area, which was not a common thing at the time that I am aware of. Her entire pubic area was covered with pus-oozing sores and pustules. It was quite a gross sight. She was on intravenous antibiotic doses around the clock. And, of course, being in isolation, no one could enter her room without a full length paper gown, mask, head cover, paper booties over their shoes, and gloves. She did survive, but what a terrible way to learn a lesson!

I picked up a case of crabs once in my misspent youth and could not for the life of me get rid of them. After using RID and a round of prescription treatment as well, my physician told me to go home and shave everything from the neck down. Everything. That worked and it taught me what the purpose of body hair was. Arm pit hair keeps your arms from sticking to your torso and keeps perspiration from running down your sides. Pubic and butt crack hair keeps perspiration from running down your legs and keeps your balls from sticking to your legs. It was wet and miserable. You couldn't pay me to do that again.

I shave down there a few times a year. Oddly, just did it this morning. I’m not opposed to the “natural” look, but didn’t realize there was any danger in having hair there. But you are correct - we watch “adult sites” and think - hey, they do it why can’t I? Though I wouldn’t say it’s a form of self-torture as others suggest.

I absolutely agree with you. The only people who should be completely bare there, are people young enough under puberty! Trimming and grooming is one thing but jeesh! I just hate that media has taken all of particularly women's personal hygiene and put it out there. Puts a lot of pressure on women of all ages. Pornography well, that speaks to itself 🤦

Beyond the shaving that occurs for certain surgeries, cancer patients undergoing aggressive Chemo and/or Radiation lose hair EVERYWHERE. The pubic area seems to be the LAST place for regrowth and, when it begins to reappear, it is sparce and patchy. Therefore, it is not uncommon for adult caner patients, especially metastatic cancer patients, to shave their nether regions as well as other body areas.

Dr i cut my pubic hair with scissor r it's so much itchy and it's been 2 weeks I apply coconut oil didn't work it cause even more itchy what should I do especially my scotrum i scratch too much now it's red crusty and some fluid coming burning sensation and too much irritation i hope doctor u will help because im in trouble for about 2 weeks 😭😭😭

I'd use a cream like trimovate which contains an antifungal, antibacterial and a steroid, use an emollient to wash, no soap

That's a good combination. Medicines change depending on continent. If things get worse stop using but should improve. Cut your nails as short as possible and file down so you don't damage your skin when you scratch. Take care

As to pregnant women shaving to give birth , both times I gave birth I was shaved in hospital , because I was told I had too. This was 1977&1980 . Maybe it’s different now idk….. and also women do it , for their partners , as they prefer it .especially when having oral sex…. …. And I agree a lot of women are pressured into it……

Young people in Scandinavia and Iceland tend to shave their public hair for health reasons. In Iceland it is because of the hot natural pools everyone uses with no chemicals. In Scandinavia it is the prevalence of sauna's. BTW in all of the countries young people tend to have sex when meeting for the first time and if you like the person then they will date. Having no hair in the pubic keeps the insects and diseases away, supposedly. I know more dark hair Scandinavians than blondes.

Flat out: The whole removing body hair thing no matter where it is on your body and no matter your gender is a form of self torture. It's both psychological and physical torture. IF you like yourself being smooth, you'll probably disagree with me. But, think about it, the ONLY reason you actually remove it is because of social standards. Social standards that tell people they are not good enough as they naturally are. Women shouldn't have to shave or wax or depilate (Nair etc) anything. Same with men. I once watched a documentary where there was a straight couple where the guy didn't like his girlfriend being hairy so she would get waxed. She finally was like, "Fine, if I do it you have to." He got waxed with her in the room and was screaming in pain while she was laughing. I hope they both decided to just be natural after that.

If I don't shave my face I feel awful after a few days, I'm an older man. When I was 12 I shaved my pubes because I was the only boy to reach puberty and we had to go in communal showers after games. I felt embarrassed. Seems so silly now
